Kevin Hayes just signed for over $7 million and has never broken 50 points.

People desperately wanted Hayes before he got traded.

We just got a 50+ point winger centre hybrid under contract for 4 more years at $5.25 million meaning Sutter is as good as gone.

In 2 years that will be the 19th overall pick and people will still be unhappy.

Hayes actually got 54 points last season. Still too much money for Hayes though.

Absolutely not. Bogosion hasn’t played more than 65 games in a season in 9 years. Not since 2010 has he played a full season. Guys more of a bandaid than Chris Tanev and that’s saying a lot. The Canucks need guys in the top 4 that can stay healthy and not force #6 and AHL caliber D to  play roles way above their heads.

What Pickly said. Fans here are down on Chris Tanev because of how often he is injured. Bogosian has missed more games than Tanev since the start of 2012/13 season which is the year Tanev became a regular. Instead of Bogosian, why not just bring back Luke Schenn at a fraction of Bogosian's salary?

@SabreFan1 Is Ristolainen's brutal +/- entirely on him or is that a product of the team?

Ristolainen's first year with the Sabres was in the 2013/14 season. Ristolainen over parts of his 6 seasons is a -143 who averaged 24:14 ATOI during that time. The Sabres have been outscored by 387 goals over the past 6 seasons. Ristolainen may not be the greatest defensive defenseman but his +/- to me largely looks like a byproduct of playing big minutes for some terrible teams.

I LOVED schenn down the stretch. He's still a #6-7D making over $2m. He meets the role criteria as everyone believed he was done in the NHL, but was still paid like a surefire bottom pairing defenseman. Schenn should be around a Biega level salary.

But if the only pro level acquisition in this many season is a #6-7 guy who performed well relative to role, we have an issue with our pro scouting.

You do know that Luke Schenn hasn't made over $1.3 million per season since the 2015/16 season? He made $1.25 mil in 16/17 and also 17/18. Luke made $800k last season which was actually less than Biega got paid.

I get the love for Rypien, but guys come on really there were a lot of great fighters before him that are getting overlooked.  When he was fighting most of his opponents weren’t that good.   Carkner was an exception, by then the enforcers were almost out of the league.  Yes he was ONE of the best middleweights in the league at the time, but Probert, Brashear, Ewen, Simon, Twist, Kocer, Coxe, Fraser, Laraque and a whole bunch others would have fed him his lunch if he tried dropping gloves with them, even when they were close to retirement.   Even a terrible fighter like Zortini who had a size advantage figured him out and beat him in a rematch by just throwing forearm “shivers” through his block.  Anyone who says he’s the best fighter we ever had technically, hasn’t seen much before he played.  This might be unpopular but there were some great middleweights that played before him that he’d have a hard time to handle.   Just the times he played in.  Not as tough, the fighters weren’t as good and it made him look exceptional (Look at his fight card..bad quality of opposition) Still he was great...but no way was he the best, maybe in the top ten but that would be about it.

I get what your saying, as I couldn't see Rypien beating guys like Brashear or Odjick, but pound for pound Rick was a beast. I don't know if Rypien would've even been considered a middleweight by NHL fighter standards as he was on the small side. Early in his career I think they had him listed at 170 lbs and the biggest at 184 lbs later on. Stortini may have fought Rypien to a draw in their 3rd fight at best though (Per hockeyfights.com Rypien received 55.8% of the votes for winner while Stortini only received 23.3%). I don't agree with the bad quality of opposition comment as most of the players Rypien fought were pretty scrappy middleweights or much bigger players. Below is a sample of Rick Rypien's NHL fight card.

    Player - times fought

    Brandon Prust - 4
    Chris Neil - 3
    Zack Stortini - 3
    Cody McLeod - 2
    Matt Carkner - 1

    Zenon Konopka - 1
    Cam Janssen - 1
    Brad Staubitz - 1

    Douglas Murray - 1
    Ian Laperriere - 1
    Richard Clune - 1
    Jamal Mayers - 1
    Boris Valabik - 1
    Ben Eager - 1
    Brad May - 1

    Dan Carcillo - 1
    Mike Commodore - 1
    Hal Gill - 1
    Ryan Carter - 1
    Andy Sutton - 1
    Jeremy Reich - 1
    Sheldon Brookbank - 1
    Brian Sutherby - 1

Absolutely, and Nelson is at a more premium position.

William Nylander also has done significantly more in the league than BB and signed at 6.9.  I know this won't be a popular opinion here but it is true.

BB should be significantly under those numbers, probably won't be as Benning has been very generous for the most part when it comes to contracts.  Still don't know how he got Bo to sign for what he did, that was a steal to give credit the one time it is due for a budget signing.

    Has he though?

Comparison of their first three seasons in the NHL

Nylander - 185 games, 48 goals, 87 assists, 135 points for a pts per game average of .73

Boeser - 140 games, 59 goals, 57 assists, 116 points for a pts per game average of .83
