Marky has knee injury, acquire NHL experienced back-up for Demko for the next little while....

Wow, Carolina looks like the winners of this trade deadline - Skjei, Vatanen, Trocheck, they look a lot better now than the beginning of the day.

Fleury isn't getting any younger - this may be more of a succession planning for what may lie ahead as Fleury will likely decline within the next 2 years

So with Devils shipping out Greene, Coleman, Simmonds and now Vatanen, I assume that they have made a shot across the bow to Detroit, Ottawa and others that they will be tanking hard for Lafreniere......
-
Another Yzerman/Holland special - at least Athanasiou doesn't have to play for Torts, which should be good for him
but then he has to play in Edmonton......

I think Canucks couldn't do this because they would've needed the Devils to take back salary, although Devils wouldn't take back anyone named Baertschi, Ericksson nor Sutter, which complicates the deal.

I can see Athanasiou getting along REALLY WELL with Torts...

The Rangers are stacked. They could make the playoffs this year. Their rebuild is pretty much over.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a reason for the Rangers recent improved play has been the hot play of their young goalie Igor Shesterkin. However, it appears that he may be out for a while now due to being in a car accident this morning.
Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin and forward Pavel Buchnevich were involved in a car accident on Sunday night, team president John Davidson said on Monday.
The two Russians were taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital with minor injuries after the crash in Brooklyn. Shesterkin, who was driving, suffered a small rib fracture and will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks. Buchnevich was shaken up but is considered day-to-day.
Shesterkin, 24, has emerged as the heir to Henrik Lundqvist’s goaltending throne, winning nine of his first 10 starts with a 2.23 GAA. Buchnevich, also 24, has 14 goals and 37 points in 61 games this season.
Hope he is okay and makes a speedy recovery, but their chances of making the playoffs this year have definitely taken a hit.

FWIW, I think this is more likely to occur, as Flames have the cap space, and they've been awfully quiet so far this trade deadline.....

For those who are wondering when Tryamkin becomes UFA (and hence, when the Canucks no longer can claim to have his rights), the date is Jun 30, 2022.

Tryamkin's UFA Status
Will the Canucks retain the rights to Nikita Tryamkin after July 1st, 2020 or does he become a UFA?
The Canucks will retain Tryamkin's rights until he reaches UFA eligibility, which for him will be summer 2022. You can check out any player's UFA eligibility at the top of their player page, here's Tryamkin's: https://puckpedia.com/player/nikita-tryamkin
Players are eligible for UFA status at 27 if they have not yet reached 7 accrued seasons. With an Aug 30, 1994 birthday, Tryamkin won't be 27 as of June 30 until June 30, 2022. Here is more info on UFA eligibility: https://puckpedia.com/salary-cap/unrestricted-free-agents-ufa
Hope this helps all those in the Canuck fanbase!! GO CANUCKS GO!!

Vegas just freed up some cap space - are they gunning for Kreider for the lengthy run, or maybe pry Kovalchuk from Montreal?

Leafs probably do this in reaction to Johnsson being gone for the next 6 months
Toronto Maple Leafs forward
is expected to miss six months after undergoing knee surgery on Wednesday.
Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe announced last week that Johnsson would require surgery on his knee and placed the initial timeline at a minimum of eight weeks.
Johnsson injured his knee in a collision with teammate Kaspari Kapanen in the first period of the Leafs' 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars last Thursday.
The 25-year-old has eight goals and 21 points in 43 games this season, having missed 15 games earlier this year with a leg injury. He is in the first season of a three-year deal signed with the Leafs this past June and carries a $3.4 million cap hit.

Zack deserved what he got (definitely wasn't a smart thing to do), but, in comparison, how did Chara get zero games for his cross-check on Gallagher.......

Unfortunate for him - hope he makes a full recovery for next season!
I assume it's full steam ahead for Wayne Simmonds moving forward, although I like what I saw from MacEwen and Bailey's cameos

I don't think Buffalo does this trade, as both Gaudette and Stecher will be looking for raises from their current deals after this season......
I'd rather try to trade them Sutter for a 5th or something.......

Right wing is our weakest position.
We have a number of young D coming and in the system.
Not as high end prospects as Dobson but I don't think Jake gets you Dobson anyway.
Actually, with Lind and Podkolzin coming up on the right-side (maybe even Lockwood, Jasek, and Plasek), and Hoglander and possibly McDonough/Gadjovich on the left-side, in addition to our current wingers, the flanks are probably the Canucks greatest area of strength moving forward...... but I digress.
As stated above, I think the Canucks would do it, but can't see how the Islanders would. How about Juolevi + for Dobson?
-
Yay! Hoglander, Madden, Rathbone, Woo, Utunen, maybe Podkolzin if the start of his KHL season doesn't conflict with these dates - anyone can confirm?
Meanwhile, I also look forward to seeing the lottery picks for the Prairie teams from this upcoming draft!

Pardon my lack of recognition (and knowledge), but who are the hockey players on the right side of his mask (ie, #7, #9, and the player on the top of the mask). The left side appear to be Kurtenbach, Quinn, and ...... Suitcase Smith?

Raymond, Ballard and a 2nd!

Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini on SN 650 right now; he more or less confirmed that Bo Horvat will be the captain, without actually coming out and saying it, simply stating, "We will name our captain on Wednesday at the home opener, and it's the worst-kept secret in town,"
When pressed further by Sat Shah if it will be Bo Horvat, FA said, "I can't confirm anything,"
Go Canucks Go, Go Captain Bo Go!!

So what happens during the season if/when one of these 3 gets called up? Do they need to clear waivers again to be sent back down?
I think they only need to clear waivers if sent back down again after 30 days on NHL roster
