  1. Update: I bought the 2020 Type R. They gave me a great deal, and was very happy. They also included a lot of free bonus perks (service discounts, warranty discounts) and I'm super satisfied. The car is SOO fun to drive. And I promise I don't drive like a crazed animal. I would never drive like that or endanger anybody. It's just so smooth words can't describe. Anyways I know a lot of people on this board are extremely knowledgeable with cars and I was hoping for some advice. I don't have a good place to store my car. I want to put it in the garage but it will take some time for us to move around a lot of equipment / other vehicles and find shelter for them. The type R has to stay outside for the next little bit. Some questions OR is there a good sub reddit I could go to ? 1. Is it fine to leave the Type R outside? Obviously tree sap and bird poop is bad for ANY car but besides that, is there any sort of coating I can put the car on to protect the clear coat / paint for extended periods of time? 2. How would the tires handle in wet / slippery conditions? Is this a car that's safe to drive in the snow / Vancouver winter conditions ? My normal commute is usually Abbotsford to Surrey. 3. Any other tidbits or advice people wanna give? This car is going to be my personal / everyday car for the next 10-15 years OR until I get some little terrors and want to upgrade to a more family vehicle so I want it to last as long as I can.
  2. Naw I definitely see where you're coming from. Last car I had was a 2008 Honda Civic SI and traded it in after 12 years. I'm just sick and tired of people saying, $11,000 ACCIDENT?!?! UR CAR WORTH NOTHING. WOW! NOBODY GOING TO BUY THAT. UR LUCKY TO GET WHAT U GET. I'm just so tired of the stigma. I just want to be rid of it.
  3. Final Update: I spoke with the GM, here's what they offered. $18,500 for my 2017 civic SI. 50k KMs on it. They won't budge on the price for 2020 Type R at all. They said they came in wanting to offer $17,000, but refuse to go any higher than $18,500. Their broker will not pay more than $17,000 so they're going to risk selling it on the lot. For reference, a 2023 Civic SI BRAND NEW MSRP is $36,000. 6 years older - half the price. He said without the accident he would have done $22,000 trade in. With the $11,000 accident, $18,500 is higher than he wants to do. SO WITH THAT BEING SAID: There's 2 options. 1. 2020 Type R with 1 owner. 83,000 KMs on it. Great condition. 80% front tires, and 55% rear. Final price $44,900. 2. 2023 Civic SI brand new. Comes with an Aero kit (I don't want that kit, but it's included and has to be paid for. They were going to sell it previously, but the previous deal fell through due to financing.) Both cars are black. I did some research, and $18,500 seems like a fair offer. GM also promised if I continue to use them for Service, I have his word they will give me some discounts. Thoughts?
  4. Update: received a text message from the salesmen asking how selling my car is going. Absolutely ridiculous. I find it truly hard to believe a car salesmen is asking how I'm doing just to be friendly. Must be their practice dismiss me and get lost in my own head to make an impulsive decision. For a customer going to that dealer for the last 20 years for service, and buying my 1st car there, I'm beyond fuming at the disrespect. I'm hoping the GM can rectify the situation otherwise, it's no loss to me. I don't need a new my car, my car drives just fine. I'll even be firm and say I have no intention of doing any business unless they give me a good offer. At this point it's their loss. They even copy and pasted a text I sent to them back to me. So clearly they're sharing my conversation with their colleagues. So much for customer / business confidentiality. Absolutely ridiculous.
  5. Well in other news, related to my OP. I know Type Rs are gorgeous cars, very robust, and built well, but how is their resale value? Cars are obviously not a product that has great resale value, but I've been reading Type R specially holds it's value extremely well. This car is expected to last me 10 years minimum if I were to buy it. In 10 years with the push to hybrid / electric will it hold it's value?
  6. Went to White Rock Honda and asked them if they're not interested in buying a used 2017 civic SI and he thought I was crazy. I told him the story and he said he's never heard of something like that. He asked me a series of questions (he was the car appraisal person) and said without even looking at the car the lowest they'd offer is $22,000 because it would be an easy sell at $27,000. Very honest and forthright. That seems fairly accurate to auto trader / Kbb. Asked if I could use his appraisal to stick it to the other dealer and he said absolutely. At the end of the day, it's not a NEED it's a WANT, so I'm not going to be swindled. But I am going to speak with the GM because quite frankly, agreeing on 2 separate quotes then backing out and lowballing me has lost all trust / faith in that sales manager. I will not deal with him.
  7. No 100% I agree. I don't know if you skimmed the message, but what I thought was weird was how I said 23k to 24k and they're "that's reasonable." but noticed a minor defect with the bumper, and even stated it was an easy fix. The sales MANAGER straight up said, "it's an easy fix." and I countered to $22.5k, and he says "No. 20k." and I say "OK that's fine." then he says "No nevermind. 15k." I get being in it to make money, but don't quote 20k, then change it to 15k. THAT'S the part that doesn't make sense. I came down 4k for the dealer, and was only asking $400 off the asking price of the vehicle. I hardly think that's an unfair deal.
  8. Yeah I tried posting on reddit, but no responses. I'm gonna se if I can speak with the GM tomorrow. Just doesn't make sense why they wouldn't want to move a car out, and get another car in.
  9. Hey as the title suggests, I was just taking my 2017 Civic SI into a Honda Dealership for a warranty repair, and I was browsing their showroom and saw a Type R on display that caught my eye. I inquired about it, and said I might be interested in trading up, and asked to get my current car appraised. It's had a major accident (previous owner) the bumper had to be rebuilt ($11,000 of damage). Obviously this will depreciate the cars value, but besides that, the car is in perfect condition, and I rarely drive (2017 with 50,000KM). No mechanical issues, frame damage, or any other type of defective issue and I've been driving the car for 2.5 years. The dealer asked how much I want. I said $23,000 - $24,000. Dealer said he'd ask the manager. Manager said that's reasonable. Then commented that my bumper isn't aligned and to get it fixed. (It's just the clips weren't installed properly. Would just require them to take the bumper off, and reattach it properly). So I said I'll go down to $22,500 and you guys fix that. Said he'd ask the manager. Comes back to me and says $20,000. I said OK sounds good. Then says he'll call me back in an hour, and is now saying "It's too big of a risk. We'll only offer you $15,000 now". Obviously car salesmen are trying to get a good deal, but then he said, and I quote, "I wouldn't take this deal. You should go to another dealer, ask for a higher price and sell it, then bring that money and buy the Type R." Is this normal? I doubt I'm going to even buy the car now, but I've bought 3 cars before (2 honda's, 1 mitsubishi) and never experienced anything like this, and even traded my previous car in hassle free. I've never heard of a 2017 Civic SI being a risk, and the previous dealership (Subaru) who bought my 2008 Honda Civic SI offered me a VERY competitive / fair price. I even checked KBB / Autotrader and $20,000 with 50,000km for a 2017 Civic SI seems very reasonable with the major damage so I'm really bewildered. Side story about the warranty repair: It took me 4-5 months of arguing with their service to get the screen replaced. Instead of diagnosing themselves, they told me to record the screen, while I was driving, and provide them proof. I had a family member record for me, and they kept saying to bring more video proof. Should I go to their General Manager about this and explain the situation to see what they'll do? I've honestly never experienced anything like this before in my life.
