  1. Curious to hear what people think Green will do with the PP and PK units given the new personnel. There are certainly a lot of viable alternatives.

    I personally would like to see Hughes and Myers manning the points on the 1st PP unit and Edler shuffled down to the 2nd unit. I think this would really give the top unit a new look and some unpredictability. Boeser, Petterssen, Horvat would be good on unit one. Ferland, Miller, Baertschi, Pearson, Goldobin, etc., depending on who is around, lots of options.

    I expect Benn and Tanev to be mainstays on the PK,  and we have a lot of good options at forward. Sutter, Beagle, Eriksson, etc.

    How do you think Green will construct these units?

    I was thinking that maybe a team like Ottawa is waiting for LE to be put on waivers and then claim him.  They wouldn't have to part with any assets at all then.  Maybe the Canucks' have already reached out to all teams stating that they will be putting LE on waivers ASAP.  I know it's wishful thinking, but I hope that's how it plays out.  That way the Canucks' don't give up any assets, and neither does the other team picking him up.  Just a thought (and wishful thinking).

    No one will claim Eriksson off waivers. Any team who would be willing to take him wants some combination of sweetener, retention, and/or moving a bad contract back the Canucks way.

    You must be very high on this guy. I wouldn’t exactly expect him to be a keeper by the end of the year? Maybe I’m out to lunch.

    Hard to say. Willing to take a chance on him since i need a rookie anyway.

    Given his age, and the chances he has had to rectify or reinvent his game, or himself.. at this point,  any “glimmer” of hope for Eriksson to perform to at least a 35pt season,. Is just that,  and would only stand to be a “glimmer”.

    There are prospects that can strongly rotate into his vacancy, whose time and effort would “show” better and be more productive to establishing having a prospect in the Canucks line up as part of the “system” of our farms development.

    Erikssons participation, even as a name on the game sheet, hinders a better cause for what is needed in continued development for the Canucks.

    He did have 29 points last year so i wouldnt exactly say 35 points is only a glimmer of a possibility. That is overstating things a bit.

    If Eriksson is still here he will also have better linemates just by virtue of the fact our forward group is upgraded.

    If he is here, i hope he does well. Having said that, I would prefer he was traded ASAP. Just move on from him and get rid of the fan vitriol.

    Don’t worry; the Shanaplan ain’t working.  Heard Dubas quoted on the radio.  When asked about his team being too soft, he said it’s not a problem if the game is called by the rules.  Ha ha ha!  He’s whining already about his team not being protected by the referees.

    You know they will be protected by the refs though. Expect Toronto to lead the league in pp opportunities. Then expect the refs to make damn sure they get out of the 1st round.

    Honestly, not looking to “defend” him either - but if we can’t move him there’s worse fates than Beagle and Loui on your 4th line.  (I’d prefer Motte/Leivo as I’m sure most would.) But at least Beagle/Loui can play some defense.

    The worst part would undoubtedly be sifting through the hilaaaarious “10 million dollar 4th line” comments ad nauseam.

    This is my feeling as well. I would rather they move him but if they dont, we could actually (finally) have 4 lines that can chip in offensively with a bottom 6 that can eat those defensive minutes. We could do worse than Eriksson on the 4th line.

    My hope is if they keep him, he comes to camp hungry to earn a spot and a role. At worst, he is a good fill in that wont hurt you to move up when injuries happen. If he wants more offensive time, the only way he is getting it is significantly outhustling and outplaying someone. He needs to realize that and bring his compete level to heights we havent seen from him yet in Van.

    There were atleast 3 teams run into the ground just before I joined the league, Ottawa(me), Washington, Colorado, and I think buffalo? It really tips the balance of the league where basically all we had was cap space to accrue assets. So I think the lack of limits on retention is useful.

    When you take over a team with its best prospect being Linus Arnesson; a top line of Duclair, Lehtera, and Abdelkader; and you are without your teams 1st round pick, which was 1st OA btw... you do what ya gotta do.

    I wasnt judging. Just curious. No team should ever be allowed to be decimated like that imo.

    :lol:... no limits baby!

    At one point I had $33M in rentention (and probably $10M in cap penalties from burying players). Now it’s only a measly $12.5M...

    It explains a lot looking at the rosters lol

    A wink and nudge is worthless though - if the player intends / agreed to waive, he agrees to waive at the point of the trade.   That doesn't appear to be the case.

    It sounded like there might be some specific language in Lucic's contract around when he could be asked to waive for an expansion draft.

    No idea where I read that or if if is even true and verifiable, but I hope for Calgary's sake something like that is the reason his nmc is still fully in effect. Otherwise, oh boy did they get screwed.

    I think the loss for Calgary will be longer term - with that NMC intact - I guess Calgary doesn't value their young depth that much?

    Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Lindholm - all obviously in another class than Lucic - with term - to be protected.

    Lucic makes 5 forwards.

    Tkachuk = 6.

    Leaving:

    Bennett

    Jankowski

    Mangiapane

    Dube

    Someone with Calgary-think will have to explain this to me - why the hell would you take the risk of exposing 3 of those young forwards - in favour of Lucic?

    Still can't make sense of what the hell they were thinking.   I'd take Neal in a heartbeat - if for no other reason than this.

    There has to a wink-nudge agreement in place for him to waive for the expansion draft. If not, their GM is a moron.

    Not the way we wanted to land Anthony but we identified him as a piece that can tremendously help our team now and in the future!

    Should have kept negotiating. That cap hit might have been better lol.

    Not gonna lie, i am seriously hoping Trouba and Fox lower his minutes and PP time. Or he gets traded to a non playoff team and busts out.

    I am channelling my inner Brian Burke right now. :)

    In all seriousness, just too much risk with him and the Rangers D situation for me to pay him as a top 2 defender. Hopefully he continues to progress and putting up points.

    The Nashville Predators have signed Anthony DeAngelo to a 3 year offer sheet, worth $18.9M ($6.3M AAV).

    The Washington Capitals have 48 hours to match the offer, or receive a 1st and 3rd round pick as compensation.

    @Silver Ghost

    @lethunder

    @Nail

    Washington declines to match this offer and accepts the compensation.

    We would wish DeAngelo and Nashville the best but F them. Lol.

    Around the 3:30 mark, that hit on Sbisa was dangerous.

    Just making it easier to see then clicking on the link

    Gotta hope the typical Vancouver thing doesn't follow him. Half of those hits are probably penalties if a Canuck does them lol.

    Those 3 players have not been gifted the opportunities that Erksson has ..  I would be happy to see all three of those players given the same chance.

    Can we dispense with the false notion he has been gifted anything. He was signed to be a top 6 guy. Without that opportunity he would not have signed with Van. He was a top line player when he signed the deal. They gave him some opportunity with the Sedins and it didnt really work out. He has had a few other chances in the top 6 but hardly gifted minutes.

    MacKewn or Gaudette on the 1st or 2nd line? Based on what? Biega a top 4 guy? Based on what?

    None of those players have earned that either so your argument seems to be to gift only players you personally like any opportunity without earning it. I disagree that anyone should be gifted anything. They should all have to earn it.
