That's a good set-up. Something different for Horvat might do him a world of good. Podkolzin looked good with Miller towards the end of last year.
Ya that's my thinking as well. Horvat really needs a pass first guy and I thought Podz and JT meshed really well together.
It's really fortunate how many options we have now.
My biggest peeve was seeing Petey on Horvats wing to get Horvat his playmaker that he needs, for me that really weakened the C depth which with those 3 centering their own line gives us potential line mismatches.
I'm not so sure about Horvat, Podz and Garland, only because imo while Podz is a very good playmaker, I also think he can be just as good scoring and if he plays with those 2, I worry that he ends up defaulting to them.
If he's with Petey or JT, then he will be better served since they are both very good shooters and passers. But Bruce is a lot smarter than me so my rambling is probably moot, lol.

JD had a down year but he's gonna have to really struggle not to be in the top 12 imo. I think he bounces back
And we see him with Hogz and Lazar.

They were pretty much our best line with JT on it last season. Pearson is too underrated here. He was a play driver on pretty much every line he played. He may not be the quickest player, but he's very smart and knows how to battle along the boards.
It sounds like they're gonna start with Garland and Miller together to start, from what I hear from the BB interview.
Garland - Miller - Boeser
Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Podkolzin
Pearson - Horvat - Mikheyev
Joshua - Lazar - Dickinson
OEL - Hughes
Rathbone - Myers
Dermott - Schenn
IR Poolman
I think Hoglander is going to be sent down to the AHL unless Kuzmenko doesn't start well. Don't think Hoglander is a good fit on the fourth line. Bruce is going to want a more stable defensive 4th line.
I think Horvat needs a playmaker on one of his wings and I really liked Podz with JT and Petey with Brock.
Garland - JT - Podz
Pearson - Petey - Brock
Kuzmenko - Horvat - Mikheyev
Each line has at least one sniper, playmaker and a defensively responsible winger.
But lots of potential options since all 3 Russians can play both sides and Brock and Podz could be switched since both have had success with both Cs. Kuzmenko could really help Horvat and Mikheyev since passing is his best asset and the other two are shoot first.

I remember last season being so pissed off that we didn’t see our NHL line up until the very last game. I hope we focus more on building chemistry then playing guys who we know are nowhere close enough to play in the NHL right up until the last pre season game. We had a historically bad start to the season.
We’ve got to built some chemistry, and perhaps do a bit of line juggling to find out who plays with who. Get the news guys buying into Bruce’s system.
That said, I haven’t been this excited to start the season since over a decade. Let’s hope we get the ball rolling.
With Miller getting locked up, I have a feeling there’s going to be quite a lot of urgency among the core players to do well and do whatever it takes to make this team competitive again.
We lost like every exhibition game and TG played it off like it didn't matter. The team should have played more games together, the piss poor start was a direct result of it imo.

Especially sincel the prospects getting the most praise (Klimovich, Linus Silov)) are from the Benning regime.

One of the first thing that popped out to me as well.
I think under Collinton, we will see our prospects perform to the best of their abilities.
The new regime has done a great job down in Abby.

From about the midway part of the second, the Canucks were on fire. They didn't go into a defensive shell, instead poured it on. Good process. I like it.
JC despite his struggles in Chicago is an excellent coach known for developing. He's going to do a great job in Abby.

Extremely important... especially if he ends up playing 3rd pair with OEL and Hughes on the top two LHD...
Gotta figure OEL with his experience at RHD gets moved over at camp and hopefully solves the issue, internally.

A simple question. The dawn of a new season is upon us. What Canuck game are you most excited about? And why?
For me, it’s the Canucks / Flyers game in February (Family Day weekend), as I’m hauling my family off Van Island to see it.
And perhaps in second place, the Nov 12th game against Leafs in Toronto, as there is so much fun in watching the Canucks defeat the Leafs in Toronto, on national fair and impartial broadcasting.
Any game we wear the skate or RR and any games against the Avs, flames, or leafs.
Avs and flames since I think they will be meaniful and good measuring sticks and the leafs just for the buzz of HNIC against the center of the hockey universe.
HM the Habs, loathe their fans and I detest teams that blatantly try to tank, especially for local possible generational star.
Seeing him in a Habs uni for 7 years until he signs here in 2030 is gross.

Pretty close to what Id roll with.
Mikheyev Petey Boeser
Pearson Miller Garland
Podz Horvat Kuz
Only thing I'd switch is Podz and Pearson.
Loved the chemistry that Podz and JT developed. I like Kuz with Horvat and Pearson, since by all accounts his playmaking is really strong.
I think everyone on your top line gets 30+. Mikheyev is exactly what those two need and he has never had a centre like EP or legit top mins, he may really pop off. I imagine a lot of breakaways from passes sent by 40 and 43.

I think 7 million is too high. He should get slightly more than RNH? This is all point comparison though so idk…
Ya I think that's fair. I do think he might get a little bump for being the captain. But 6.5 based on his actual numbers seems about right. RNH is such a good pker, anyone else find it weird that Horvat didn't kill many penalties under TG? I honestly never noticed until it was pointed out last season. I just assumed he did.

I agree. If BO doesn’t want to take a team friendly deal and wants #1 centre type money then we should trade him. Petey won the Calder and is a point a game player. Miller is a 99 point player, plays multiple positions and is a vocal leader of this team. BO is a 2C and should be paid accordingly.
Ryan Kesler won the Selke trophy and was our best ever 2C. I don’t recall him ever getting the same money as the Sedins.
Agreed. Love Horvat but end of the day I prefer Petey at C over wing and because I feel Petey will be a guy who in his prime could very likely put up 45 goals and 100+ points.
Because of that Horvat, for me is the 3rd most important C and he needs to be paid accordingly. 7 ×8, puts him a bit above RNH and on par with Landy, two fair comparables IMHO.

Good job, finally it's done. No more distractions, keep the core together. This was the biggest problem with the last regime - the team kept getting broken up and changed every 6 months. Now we have stability, these guys can grow some real chemistry.
Bo is going to get a 2M pay rise at least, Miller goes up 3M and we're already 2.5M over the cap, and nothing significant is coming off the books next year. Surely we'll have to flip some of these expensive 3-5M forwards, Garland is the big one who comes to mind.
Next year may be our best chance to contend with Bo and Miller on cheap contracts.
There's 20 million almost off the books. They have 13 million in space with 16 contracts I believe? And lots of variables to consider.
If a guy like Garland gets moved its in a hockey trade. If a deal for cap is needed, guys like Pearson, Dickinson make more sense, even Myers with one year would be an easy move, might take a pick but it's an option, if they wanted room for a guy like Severson in UFA.

This may sound off topic and off the wall but hear me out:
Hoglander, Rathbone, a 1st and a 2nd to ARZ for a cost controlled Chychrun.
3 more years at 4.6per.
Arizona’s price has apparently come down.
Switch QH or OEL to RHD (experiment),
Pair Chychrun with either to get his game back and pad his stats this season with us. Hell, he may even become a major piece in getting us into the playoffs.
Trade him next season if need be
(he also has an N-MTC 10 team list he can supply) for our future stud RHD.
The trade package I mention above won’t fetch us that stud now, but a young, star D like Chychrun could in a years time.
We might need to do something bold like this to really bring about considerable change, retool the D, and build the value of an asset (with the right support) that we can then trade up/laterally with.
With JTM locked in, Bo about to be, we should be looking at making a deal right now that can make us immediately stronger on the back end and put us in direct competition for top 3 in our division. In two seasons Myers’ contract will be up. We already have a lot of money invested on the back end, but could effect an upgrade now and set up if we want to shop for our most glaring need in the future.
i realize most aren’t too high on giving up too much for a Chychrun type LHD, but managing assets can get us there if we do it right, while also pushing us much closer to playoffs.
thoughts?
from July 2021 after the OEL trade:
Chychrun is proof that defencemen can succeed in Arizona. Chychrun was a two-way force at five-on-five last season with a 51.5 percent expected goal share, his actual goal differential was plus-four at five-on-five, he scored 18 goals and 41 points in 56 games and managed all that while logging more minutes and tougher matchups than Ekman-Larsson.
He stepped into the same role Ekman-Larsson had occupied previously and was wildly successful as a bona fide top pair defenceman.
According to coyote fans he's able to play his off-side.
Word out of the desert is a goalie prospect is high on their list, don't know how other teams would value Silov but I'd be happy to see Chychrun paired with Quinn or Myers.
Prefer to keep Rathbone tho so how about
2023 1st top 10 protected or 2024 1st no protection, Klimovich, Silov, and another piece.
Or 1st, Hoglander, + ?

But the D. The D!!!!!!!
I mean, its a rather important ingredient to winning.
Can we score our way to win a Cup? Has that ever been done in the modern era?
Apologies for derailing the thread but our defense despite being our weak link and numerous injuries put up numbers that were top end of the league last season in stats that actually matter. I could care less if Demko played a big part in that, it's his job and our good fortune he's extremely good at it.
Every team has flaws, have you seen the Panthers defence and albatross sucks in the playoffs goalie? How bout the cup Champs, down big offensive pieces and literally two career backups in net.
I could go through every single team and point out concerns, instead I'll simply say imo, we have the best forward group in the division and at worst 2nd best goalie.
We also greatly improved our actual gaping flaw from last season (pk)
Bruce himself when asked about the shortcomings on D, basically said the only actual stat that matters is GA, we were 8th overall, 3rd, 5on5.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.
We have the cap (12 million) to sign him and Kuzmenko if he works out. We can make a hockey trade to improve the D plus there are guys like Pearson, Dickenson etc that would be moved before moving Horvat for cap issues. Realistically a Horvat extension only adds 1.5- 2 million in extra cap. I think Bo gets 7 million over 8 like Gabe on the Avs.

Sure, but then AAVs will also increase. As I said, ELC/cheap talent will get their raises, Petey will get his, other players will get increases, etc - this adds up.
I agree they will rise and it's one of the reasons I wanted to keep JT and have him signed under this cap. Trying to replace him even as soon as next season would likely cost us more. Sure we gave up some term but who's to say the guy targeted to fill the void even chooses us?
If we had a replacement internally, I might have been OK with moving him but we clearly don't.
People will say we need to upgrade the D but doing it through UFA almost always sucks nevermind the fact there is seldom a youngish tip RHD hits the market and definitely not for fair market value. We have the option of trading for one with our Forward depth, especially if Kuzmenko becomes a legit player for us.
Garland for Zub? Hogz+ for Zub or Severson?

We aren't a playoff team with Miller at 5.5M. We won't suddenly become one with him making 8M and other ELC/cheap players getting their raises, Petey getting his raise, etc.
As much as I rate the player, I can't say I'm a fan of this contract and what the implications are going to mean for this team.
Sigh...You realize the cap will be 94+ when EP is due right? I've heard every summer were going to lose this player or this one, yet somehow we add players. Paying your best player 8 million is never a bad thing. And we were a playoff team under Bruce and will be going forward.

In general Pearson gets no credit. He does everything the right way, always out there in high leverage situations and even then gets mocked for it. I bet if he plays with JT or Petey all year he sets a career high in goals. Dudes got a wicked shot.
