  1. Finally made it to the last page. Wanted to read everyone’s comments. Good words by everyone.

I originally was using the profile @Grandnational and switched to this new one in 2003. Been the best source of Canuck info, news and different opinions.

Not happy about this. I hope this was a directive from Bettman and not our team feeling butt hurt for any criticism these boards bring out.

Another question I would love to ask FA. I met the guy twice and blanked out when my opportunity came to talk to him about the team. I have a friend that knows him well and we met under conditions that I could have easily got some “inside info”. Very annoyed at myself.

Thank you to all the moderators and @-SN- for the new home.

See you folks on the other site.

Beyond our utter lack of systems play/puck support, it's so blatantly obvious but SO MANY people just brush it off as "player X sucks".

Funny how Schmidt was a solid D in VGK, in an appropriate role and appropriately partnered, and has been that again in WPG, approximately role and partner... But "mysteriously" he "sucked" here.... hmmm

Schmidt, Myers, OEL, Gudbranson... All set up to fail here.

    Couldn’t disagree with you anymore.

We’ve seen way too many “mistakes” that he made too many times for this to be that. The guy is a terrible player. I’m done with his daily snow angels, being constantly caught out of position and lack of awareness.

If your memory and or eyesight is an Issue then check out the the stats. He and OEL were the WORST defensive pairings in the ENTIRE NHL. We literally lost games because of these 2 numpties,

    Don’t even go there.

Also, Schmidt is a decent player, just not a good fit here. He was nowhere near bad. He was here for 5 minutes while we saw chaos Giraffe for 5 years where he continued to get worse.

I couldn't agree more. Myers by far more than any other player single handedly lost the Canucks so many games it was absolutely maddening!

It's shocking and laughable that some fans think at a lesser contract Myers would be fine in a limited role doing some pk work lol

The guy is an absolute disaster defensively and makes so many mistakes he made OEL look alright.

On the PK Myers especially got worked badly it was like being down a man and a half lumbering around like a huge pylon, screening the goalie and leaving too much time and space for opposing stars their way with our goalies.

If they can find a new home this would make the team much stronger overall and leave less weaknesses for the opposing teams to expose and would go a long way at making the playoffs which I think they definitely will especially without Myers killing them.

Yup and some folks also saying that with limited minutes on the 3rd line he can be good. Not happening. He is absolutely brutal

  4. At the end of the day, it’s the team and coach who ought to decide. I’m ok now with whoever gets it, they know a lot more than us as to who is their best leader both on and off the ice.

  5. 24 minutes ago, Dekey Pete said:

I think you're confusing contract negotiations with his willingness to play for the Canucks.  Petey has demonstrated on the ice that he is committed to the team.  I couldn't care less what he says in an interview.  He should absolutely not be stripped of his A, unless you want him to pack up and go and be even further back in building this team.

Last time he went through contract negotiations I remember people on this board crapping all over him like he was some entitled, expendable guy we should just let walk.  Give your head a shake.  He's going to get paid, and he will earn every penny.

I don’t know what your issue is. I’m not “crapping all over him”. I admit he is our most skilled guy. I just said he is not a leader. Get a grip over yourself

  6. I think RT prefers JT but management likely wants Hughes. Helps with re-signing later as well. He’ll become more invested in our team and definitely needs to re-sign.

JT would be the perfect Captain but I understand if they go Hughes.

Petey should be stripped of his A. The guy has demonstrated he is not invested here and will leave if the team does not meet his expectations. That’s not leadership.

They won’t do that because they want to try and keep him.

  7. It really boggles my mind that some folks around here are saying Myers is a positive impact on our team with a lessor role.

The guy is absolutely garbage. I like RT but there is no way a coach can help with a player that has this low hockey IQ.

Just watch this video. This is what Myers would do EVERY GOD DAMN GAME last season. This 4 second video is Myers. I don’t know what some of you are talking about. He cost us a LOT of games.

The government doesn’t own Stanley Park. It is leased land. Also, it was deemed a National Historic site. Nobody is going to cut down trees to  build an ice rink on a National Historic site.

The Aquilini’s are looking to do something on land they own or control.

Also, Stanley Park is named after Lord Stanley, the same dude that donated the Stanley Cup. Pretty ironic we have a 1000 acre park located in Vancouver named after the guy who donated the cup that we can’t even win.

When we win the Cup, the parade route should include the park. Get them boys up on horse and carriages

    Height 6.03 -- Weight 236 [191 cm/107 kg]

Nick Richie 6'3 - 236 LBS - 27 - LW- This is the type of player Vancouver should be giving a PTO contract to?
Canucks need toughness and Ritchie has some skill and can play tough and grityt we need this against so many big teams in the west.
    Last season Ritcher averaged 13:32 TOI  -- GP 74 - G 13 - PTS 26
    Tocchet type of big forward...

Sure hope Alvinn doesn't wait much longer lost of players are getting PTO contracts..
Lets get Ritchie in for PTO -- Ritchie @ 6'3 - 236 lbs - LW would look great causing havoc in Canuck colours..
     Go Canucks Go !

We’ve learned the hard way that big doesn’t necessarily mean any good.

The quote we're working on that as an organization to me means that the Canucks organization is working on getting a practice facility or doing something about it.  Not throwing ownership under the bus like you are trying to suggest with your topic header.

The title of the article said he called out ownership and in reading what was said, I agree. How about I change the title to calling out ownership. Would that make you feel better?

Edit - that’s actually what I did in the first place!

The article you posted conveniently keeps out this line.

I can't be disappointed players were not here in mid-August because they probably had a facility or something where they were. We're working on that as an organization. We want players to stay and train under our umbrella, under our roof. The best teams do that.

This is them trying to put a narrative out there .... You fell for it.

RT isn't throwing ownership under the bus.

What are you trying to say? I didn’t fall for anything. It’s right there.

He can’t blame players not being here because there are no practice facilities and then softened it with they are “working on that”.

Did you not hear all the conversations about being game ready and better shape for the start of the next season? This was at the end of last year and RT was really pushing that.

Fast forward to Aug 30th and we still have nothing set up. This is a huge issue that never got addressed.

Did we really need a new thread for this?  This was taken out of the sportsnet q&a article, which Arrogant Worm already posted.

This part doesn't really throw the organization under the bus.

Yes we do because of how it has impacted the team throughout the years and continues to still plague us.

We are the few that do not have a dedicated practice facility and is one of the more likely reasons why we are continuing to have slow starts. The last 2 seasons have just gotten worse.

You can get all these players to buy in and be in better shape all you want but game shape is different.

If this organization wants to become successful, things like this matter.

We look like a joke of a franchise right now.

LATEST | Canucks' coach Rick Tocchet calls out the team and its owners

    Published August 30, 2023 at 5:41 PM

We're just a little over 40 days until the season opener and even fewer days before the teams kick off their respective training camps. It's not unusual for veterans to get to the city a little before things start in order to get back to their routine and get the band back together.

Rick Tocchet spoke to Sportsnet earlier today and sent a clear message to the organization, pointing out what they lack. Tocchet pointed out that the team still hasn't figured out their way around the practice facility, and it became hard to practice with the club when Rogers Arena was under construction or when it hoisted different events:

‘'We don't have a practice facility (and) Rogers Arena was under construction. There's a lot of things that we just don't have, so I can't really blame the players.[] ‘' I can't be disappointed players were not here in mid-August because they probably had a facility or something where they were. [] We want players to stay and train under our umbrella, under our roof. The best teams do that.‘'

Tocchet definitely used his interview to send a clear message to the organization. He noted that every top organization in this league finds ways to reunite their players in august to get things started, As pointed out, it's hard to pin that on the players since Vancouver couldn't offer its players such a thing.

The issue was later discussed on Sekeres & Price, and the opinions were lopsided; they all agreed that an organization of that calibre should have an appropriate training facility.

The question at that point remains whether or not the ownership group will be taking matters into their own hands to resolve this issue. When the NHL's top free agents are shopping for their new teams, you can be sure that the team's facilities are one thing they consider.
