  1. From another post I quite enjoyed, I would say that is the money quote, right there.
  2. I'd like to go a step further and say it's the first post I've seen from Dak72 and based on what looks like more of a lurking than a posting history, it was worth the wait. I'm seeing some other pretty good posts on here too. Good to see someone in this league showing some integrity, that's for sure!
  3. Of course there's not knowing and there's not wanting to know.
  4. If by powerless to influence you mean capable of fomenting by sleazy concerted action and inaction, yet strangely powerless to prevent.
  5. Not sure anything solves the league's intransigence, but your logic looks solid. Especially the last bit.
  6. Pretty good post there... Of course, if there was one word in your post I'd call unfortunate, I think I'd have to go with that one.
  7. I hear you, and would agree to the point that it should not just be anything goes, just because it's outside the crease. If I understand correctly, the current stance could allow for a suspension in either of the two situations we were discussing if in their opinion the opposing player had reasonable opportunity to avoid or minimize the contact and deliberately chose to barrel through instead. This is, of course, where opinions can differ, even on the exact same hit. I would say the Lucic hit was more egregious for obvious reasons, as I already mentioned, but I can see how you might feel such hits might not happen as often if they were more consistently met with suspension. I do think Turco bears some responsibility for playing the man and not the puck in the other case, but the play happened pretty quickly and I can understand if you see it from a slightly different perspective. Turco bears a little more responsibility and I suspect was more prepared for the contact than Miller, hence no injury. To your point, though, I agree that both opponents might have done well to respect the goalie a little more, whether inside or outside the crease. Unfortunately, neither goalies nor the other skill players get enough protection in this league. Nice to finally see that hits targeting the head are receiving more attention these days, but that will obviously leave issues like consistency needing further attention.
  8. http://forum.canucks...co/page__st__30 Don't remember seeing that one at the time, but if the clip in the link above is the one you're referring to, it's pretty much apples and oranges. Or at least granny smith and mcintosh. Lucic had no chance, and in fact did not even touch the puck after Miller cleared it. He did have time to line him up and knock him half way to the next season. From the comments I skimmed, it looks like Turco had a reputation for going waaaay out, and in this case, he was the one who had no chance. Not even sure how that was a penalty since it looks like Turco is the one that arrives late. Won't argue that point anyway, but the resulting hit bears little resemblance to the Lucic hit on Miller, beyond the obvious fact there is an impact outside the crease between a goalie and an opponent on a breakaway rush. On the other hand, if you're simply saying goalies should be protected more in general, because of their vulnerability to injury, I would cut you a little more slack. I still think Turco looks more like the aggressor in the clip I saw, but you are entitled to your opinion. If there was no suspension, that would put the referees right in the middle between your call for more sanction and other viewpoints like mine, that he's kind of responsible for putting himself in that position. Certainly not an equivalent, and if that is how you judge it, remind me never to need you as a witness to a traffic accident.
  9. Lol, yeah it can be hard to keep track around here sometimes. As it happens, I don't even mind when someone expresses a viewpoint that may seem extreme to others, as long as I see a reasonable underlying rationale. Cheers!
  10. The brush is still a bit broad for my liking, but I respect the fact you're willing to paint yourself with it at the same time. Still, I would have to say there is a huge difference between stooping to immature responses at one point or another and being 'no more mature' than anyone else here overall. But I think your clarification makes your actual position look a little more reasonable than the more graphic language would have suggested. I make no claims to be above all displays of immaturity, nor am I particularly averse to the use of hyperbole on occasion, so I guess it's all good.
  11. Sorry but I found this post almost irresistible for further case study. For my own reference, I'd divide it into its three parts as follows: Projection Simplistic 'example' Doing almost exactly the thing just condemned Almost Haiku like in its symmetry. Fascinating. Of all threads, though, I have to wonder why one would come looking here if truly interested in finding and recognizing shining examples of maturity.
  12. Case in point, though much more eclectic and incendiary. PLOGUE has been around for some time, so I can only imagine where this might be coming from. Maybe some kind of hyperbole, maybe for comic effect. Pretty much a troll type comment on its face though. Clearly defining 'only two camps' with one consisting of only two people and the other lumping in all others except self into a truly derogatively stereotyped 'other' camp, while attempting to hold self above all as sole arbiter and judge. That one (the comment) is pretty out there alright.
  13. Your words, not mine. Oversimplification is a classic blunder. If you read my post more carefully, you should see I was merely pointing out that I didn't think all the posts in this thread necessarily should be lumped into one of two arbitrarily defined 'camps'. What you think of individual Bruins never came into consideration. You might find I'd allow for a different point of view more than you think. Which is not to say I like any of the Bruins. At all.
  14. One question raised by your premise is why you consider yourself part of the group you bolded in the first place. As far as I can tell, I didn't actually put the finger on you, so that would have to be a question for you yourself to answer.
  15. Yeah, not even many attempted decapitations to speak of. Thanks for the detail, I had been under the impression the team was flu ravaged and wouldn't have minded the win anyway, but all the better if it wasn't so much that.
  16. Why wherever would you get that idea? "I wus just mindin' muh own bizniss when outta nowhere, out comes Luongo with his net, crease, and all and he just reaches out with his neck and nearly yanks the sick right outta muh hands. Some kinna ninja move. Never seen anything like it. And I wus like ref???!! Whars the holdin' the stick call?"
  17. For serious? I answered that in the very post you quoted. Not a long answer but you might want to give it some thought, o even keel killjoy-headedness.
  18. Not going to complain with that assessment, except that the flu might be hitting them hard right now too. Just happy about the result tho. edit: Not to mention, all of a sudden, just 6 points back from pole position for the President's Trophy. Not bad for a team that couldn't buy goals last month.
  19. Stock response. And you believe that? By the way...lots of good comments on here tonight, too many to mention. Great to feel the vibe. 'Nite all!
  20. Exactly. Take the win, bag the points, and on to the next game. Cheers!
  21. Don't much care how many years you've been on the forum or how many posts you've logged without somehow getting banned. If anything counts as trolling, then that comment does. Never heard the phrase never say never? A true Canuck fan may sometimes say never, but never in that way. The 2 points may have this as one of the less significant wins, even in the regular season, but they did what they had to, and looked mighty fine doing it. Now that's a little more like something a Canuck fan might say.
