  1. Can this be confirmed? Since he didn't play in the game I'm pretty sure he hasn't lost the streak. I've been digging for information on the net and I kind find anywhere that says the streak is over.

It was mentioned several times by Suitor the streak is indeed over.

  2. Well, the 'Caps backed their way in. I hope Rennie plays Mattocks and Selgado up front to start and some of their other kids next week.

On second thought, maybe they should play their first 11 to try to build something for their playoff game.

Galaxy v. Sounders next week will be the game to decide 'Caps opponent, most likely. Seattle has a 10 goal advantage over Real so a Seattle win will assure them second and a date with the 'Caps.

5th place plays a 1 game decider vs #4 to see who plays 1st so we'll be playing in LA.

  3. Not my point at all. I don't care about CFL ratings this is a Whitecaps thread. Even if I am wrong, it has NOTHING to do with my point.

LOL defensive much. I haven't read this entire thread so i don't know nor do i care what your "point" is about. Your the one that commented on the tv ratings and im simply showing your statement that the Whitecaps top the Lions in viewership couldn't be further from the truth.

  4. The highest rated game this year, beats any Lions regular season game on TV in the last 2 years (granted 1/2 the games were blacked out).

Team 1040 has done a fairly good job, but the papers can def be better. Local ratings for games are among some of the best in the league.

The Whitecaps have to do better with marketing though. One print ad a week, and youtube videos are not good enough. You have to create excitement. This team has yet to ever have one TV ad. All sell outs, and the hype surrounding them have been created by the fans and the media, not the team.

You have a link.? I find that hard to believe. CFL numbers blow the MLS out of the water. Whitecaps are averaging 80k on SN and 149K on TSN. The highest game was season opener against montreal at 541k. TSN+RDS combined as far as i can tell. Lions average 800k.

  5. Great game. Only real problem is that Dane Richards is now a threat we can use upfront.

Also damn, the 'Caps need to do something about Wednesday attendance. They are always near a sell out on weekend games

Its not just Wednesday game the 18k on a Sunday against Colorado was also very low compared to the rest of our games. Its no big secret this teams struggles/changes are 100% to blame for the lowerish attendance. In fact the whitecaps were really pushing to sell-out all the remaining games and had some great deals for tickets 50% off a while back for any of the games on this remaining home-stand.. to only sell out the cascadia games is a huge disapointment.

  6. I used to really enjoy whitecaps games but i have to say watching games now i have next to no enthusiasm. I understand were only a 2nd year club, so some would say us being where we are is a success but i guess its the way this season has gone that just irks me the most. I feel like i don't even recognize this club anymore with all the player changes/roster tinkering at this time of the year..and it feels like it'll never end but when you lose 5 in a row that's to be expected i guess.

Slighty OT i know its nothing but why don't they groom the turf to get those nice mower lines...? Montreal did it in Olympic stadium. I know its just for appearance but personally the turf looks like crap. I mean they use brown fill to look like natural dirt.. you may as well make it look as good as possible on t.v.

  7. I didn't watch the game, nor do i plan on watching the pvr. So did we actually have some guys injured or whats the reason for Harvey and Thorrington starting.. They are marginal players and when i see them in the lineup i automatically get the sense were playing for a draw. I understand were on the road but god damn Dallas isn't that good of a team and quite frankly in the biggest game of the year to see a lineup like that was puzzling..well so is just about every other move this team has made of late. Mattocks is the only god damn player that can score on this team but i guess when your paying an old scot 1.2 million you have to start him.. i dno why camilo wasn't in the mid like he usually is... oh wait typical Rennie play for a ???? draw on the road every ???? game and of coarse we blow it in the end.

5 game losing streak is apparently even longer than what we had last season if you can believe it.

  8. Montreal's owners (The Supputo family) are very wealthy. Top 10 in Canada I believe. They used their own money to build a stadium, and then upgrade it this year.

Our owners are very wealthy as well. 2 of our owners are billionaire's, Our owners even offered to privately build a soccer stadium in Gastown, but 20% of the residents gained enough attention from corrupt politicians to get it blocked. They are still looking to build one, but doing so quietly. Their lease with BC Place was relatively short(5 years). For comparison sakes, most teams are forced to sign 20 year leases when they move into a new facility.

Back to topic, it seems at the present time, our owners are simply only giving enough money to compete, until a stadium is obtained. Whitecaps are right in the middle of the league when it comes to team salaries. We only use 2/3 DP spots at the moment.

TFC went after a well known player like Torsten Frings and he has just been awful. TFC has the 2nd highest salary in the league, and sits in 2nd last. RSL, and SJ have shown you can compete if you build your team properly. LA may spend a lot, and 2/3 DP's (Keane and Donovan)are still good enough to play in the EPL(and both have done so on loan agreements during MLS off-season), but they also have great residency program.

In short we WILL eventually spend money, but owners are committing most time and money towards stadiums efforts as appose to winning a title right now.

I wish you were right about the lease only being 5 years but from every article ive read its 15 years... :(

"PavCo chairman David Podmore told The Vancouver Sun the Crown corporation never conferred any naming rights to either the Whitecaps or Bell when it agreed to a 15-year lease with the soccer club."

  9. I am a casual fan of the Whitecaps since I can't watch any games. I follow the team, but only highlights and reading about them.

Can somebody explain to me what the heck they were thinking blowing up the winning team that they had? Sure, they weren't the best, and their hot start did start to trail off, but why dump all the offense just to double up on back-ups for defense?

I've watched the development of the team in Montreal, and I really respect the moves they made to sign players from abroad. Bringing in an absolute veteran defensive specialist in Nesta, and a killer goal scorer in Di Vaio is exactly how I feel MLS teams need to be built. Youth, with a sprinkling of aged class.

Look at LA...they're like a retirement team for former EU stars, and it works for them.

I'm starting to get worried that we're seeing a grizzlies/raptors scenario developing where management is pushing the team in the wrong direction.

Why can't Vancouver sign a Del Piero, or a Nesta, or a Gattuso, or any of these types of players. Is it a money thing?

Dumping their offense, and nose diving the team in both entertainment and results is really disappointing. If anyone with more knowledge of the team can explain it to me, that'd be great.

When you play on turf your going to have a hard time convincing some of the top flight players to come and play here without forking over huge coin. I don't think we'll ever see the true top flight guys come here until were out of BC place.

Montreal has done it right signing guys out of Serie A meanwhile were getting guys a step below from the Championship..big difference in quality. I really have no problem with signing older talent, even if they only stick around a couple years.

I think letting Chiemiento go was the biggest mistake ever. We have zero creativity in the midfield, none and Robson doesn't provide that either. It really hasn't mattered who we have up front, Miller, Hassli, Le Toux.. we had no one capable of feeding them the ball.

  10. I don't believe we have a single shot on goal yet this game....again!! Not only do we ???? suck right now, this team is just so ???? boring to watch. I think there was 1 stretch we did not touch the ball for a good 3 min..

I like the whitecaps, ill support them as i do all our local teams but man they are not going to gain any new fans in this market with play like this and a team like this. I even find myself losing interest when you pretty much know on the road were playing for a draw off the start at best..and once were down a goal you get the feeling oh great we'll be lucky if we even get a draw out of this. 2+ goals its a pretty good bet were toast.

  11. Tonights lineup basically looks like were outright expecting a loss.. You really gotta question why Rennie would decide to rest players tonight (we have a 2 week break coming up) when he should of been resting guys a longg time ago in the heavier part of our schedule. not to mention LA is likely the team we would face in their home barn if we make the playoffs... don't you want a good showing here?. Who knows maybe a shocker happens and we win and this looks genius but i have my doubts.

  12. Wow just watched the game and where to begin... from start to finish this team, the broadcast in a whole is becoming almost unwatchable. Lets start with McEwan and Dolan.. i understand having a home side bias but its way beyond that. Dolan is okay, but man Mcewan sounds like a amateur broadcaster to me.

Whitecaps just look like they have zero chemistry out there, i certainly believe overhauling a third of your roster half way thru the season has a big part to do with that. There's no doubt the talent is better but its just not working. We are already one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and the play of late just makes things so much more unbearable to watch. Cannon i like you but that performance was uglyyyyyy. Every gk went flying out of bounds, i think we really need to look for a new keeper next season. YP Lee had a very bad game as well, i think the season is starting to wear on him. He was great in the RSL game after a long layoff but his play's starting to drop off.

I thought for sure tonight was as close as you could come to a guaranteed win.. 9 game win less Portland was the better team by miles. Not sure this team will make the playoffs.

  13. Did anybody see any of the DC vs. PHI game today? The officiating was absolutely terrible. Check out the highlights if you didn't see them already. There has been a few games this season for the Caps where they have had poor officiating. The MLS has some of the worst officiating I've ever seen in any league. What do you guys think about the MLS officials?

Yeah there's no conspiracy against the Caps if that's what some ppl feel. MLS officiating is simply poor at the best of the times.. I think the best ref in the league is that mexican Guzman or sth? Toledo used to be widely known as the worst but i think there's a bunch of new guys whom have surpassed him by a long shot. The canadian pair of refs are at that bottom of the barrel.
