  1. It would appear that 'The Oilers Clock of Destiny' has struck three.

What, Ryan Smyth just 'happened' to want to return to his beloved team?

And they just 'happened' to win the draft lottery?

And now Schultz just 'happened' to pick Edmonton out of all 30 teams in the league?

Looking forward to seeing how many other 'fortunate coincidences' they get in the next few months. Hey, is there a lockout coming up? That's around the last time they were prominent. Re-freakin'-gards.

  2. Gaunce will stick up for his teammates, but he doesn't exactly frighten anyone. He'll hit, but he won't downright lay anyone out. He can score, but he won't dazzle you with moves. Bread and butter player that won't get all uppity like Hodgson, but won't show a lot of upside either. Then again, we heard a lot of the same about Kesler.

Definition of 'safe pick.' He's an NHLer for sure. 3rd or 2nd line. And since he's apparently good all over the ice, he'll likely have the upper hand on a lot of our other prospects. Cheers.

  3. Like he'd even want the job. Dealing with the idiot media and fans. Eventually tarnishing his bulletproof (people remember we traded him, right?) legacy here. Not having a clue about how to be a GM. etc.

I hate it when (supposedly) pro-Linden people post anti-Canuck ideas. Cheers.

  4. Everyone is moaning that we lost our version of Chicago's '09-'10 Kris Versteeg (you know, that 20g 30a 50pt 3rd line player).  What those people are missing are the similarities between Kassian & another member of that 3rd line that played a major role in the Blackhawks Cup win.

That 6'3" 205lbs guy came in as a 20 year old (December D.O.B.) and promptly put up 11g 8a 19pts -9 in his first 25gp at the AHL level.  He got recalled and put up 6g 5a 11pts & 33 hits in 29gp on the 3rd highest scoring team in the NHL that year but when the playoffs rolled around?

He "only" put up 2g 3a 5pts in 17gp but he had 41 solid, heavy hits and one of his two goals was the GWG of game #2 in the Stanley Cup final.  He played a big, albeit underrated, part of the 'Canes' Cup win in '05-'06.

That's Kassian's floor - Andrew Ladd.  His ceiling?  Who knows?  But if people want to throw around names like Yzerman & Sakic in the same sentence as CoHo (crazy to me - Chris Drury is more like it) then people could throw the name of Brendan Shanahan into the conversation on Kassian (just as crazy).

I was also thinking Andrew Ladd as a comparison.

Similar scenario to ours in Carolina and Chicago, player cap-wise and style-wise, although those teams seemed a bit deeper at the time.

Hopefully Kassian has the same result as Ladd in his rookie year. Cheers.

  5. Sometimes, players are passed over multiple times for a reason.

Unless he was the 2nd coming of Patrick Kane, his upside was a longshot away at best.

He better show something this season in Chicago, or dat's dat.

  6. Um...Chris Tanev?

AV will play rookies that are capable of stepping in and making an impact.

Yeah but he's SUPPOSED to just give kids spots with awesome linemates and watch them boom or bust before fizzling out and vanishing.

  7. Unfortunately for him, we have a ton of prospects just like him already.

Probably too soft to be an effective bottom-6 guy.

Probably not skilled enough to be an effective top-6 guy.

The Canucks have a knack for seeking these guys out.

  8. I asked him and he said that he feels like asking Kesler to buy the next round.

Seriously, anyone thinking that there would be a rift caused by this probably also thinks that there was a rift between Kesler and Luongo after the Olympics.

On that note, man, there sure are a lot of panicky idiots in this town.
