  1. Everyone I'm catching up with seems to be complaining about their jobs. Made me think about posting a 'Rate your job' article.

My job scores straight 7s = 21/30. I have a 35 minute commute, don't have to share my office, am able to use my knowledge, like my coworkers and am invested in the well being and future of my 'clients'. Hate my lack of sleep but like the vacation and pension.

    Surroundings: /10

Is the commute reasonable (from your point of view)?

Is your work space comfortable, and does it make it easier to do good work?

Do you have the tools and resources you need (or can you get them fairly easily)?

Do you generally like the folks around you and feel OK spending your days with them?

Are the systems, processes and policies in place reasonably efficient and effective?

    Stuff To Do: /10

Does your day-to-day job consist of things you like to do (for the most part) and find engaging and challenging?

Does your job generally play to your strengths – that is, is your success at work primarily dependent on doing stuff you’re good at doing?

Are you interested in the industry you’re in and the work your company does?

    Connection: /10

Are you passionate about the company’s mission?

Are you proud to be associated with it?

Do you feel reasonably content and grateful to be working for this company, this department, this boss?

Do you feel acknowledged and supported to succeed?

If somebody asked you whether you’re planning on building a career here, would you say yes?

    1(Terrible) – 10 (GREAT)

Now, take the system for a spin: try it out. Rate your current job (or a job you’re considering) 1-10 on each of the 3 elements above, with 1 being “terrible – doesn’t have any of this,” and 10 being “check, check, check…pretty much great.”

If you give your job an overall score of 15 or less, I’d suggest you dust off your resume (and if you give that score to a job you’re considering – keep looking). The fact the you gave your job that kind of score might give you some insight into why you spend your evenings bitching to your spouse, your friends, or your roommates about your work situation, and why you dread Monday mornings.

But if you score your job anything over a 25, consider yourself very lucky (and put on the full-court press, if it’s one you’re considering). I suspect you’re one of those irritating people who looks forward to getting back to work after a vacation, and who tells people how much you enjoy your job. Good for you…and maybe now you have a little more insight into why you feel so cheerful at work.

    EDIT: Poll added.

  2. Can't wait for the rain thats coming to get rid of it. If you want snow that bad, go up to a mountain or something, there's lots there. Some of us actually have cars and need to drive around and stuff.

lol. totally. but if i was the only one on the road, it'd be fine. it's having to deal with the rest of the drivers that's a problem.

just finished taking the dog for a walk. it's spitting out in van. i wouldn't call it snow.

  3. Nausea is scary. After all of the strokes around me, the first thing i think about is high blood pressure.

But there's lots of other explanations - low blood sugar, lactic acid buildup, dehydration, low blood pressure, low oxygen...

Don't brush it off though. Figure out what's causing it.

Since I used them for quite awhile after my wrist pains, I guess it really helped them fully get better and now I CAN do sll the excercises without them, however on bicep and tricep day I choose to wear them just incase. Preacher curls and etc I'm pretty sure were a huge reason for the injury. Probably would use them for the bench press too, however off the bench press for now. Plus when I do dumbbell presses they arent 60, 70 pounds so I'm good to go without them there too. Prefer to lift a bit lower and get full contractions push with only the muscles i'm working on and now be using my shoulders a lot to push the dumbbells up.

But you'll see what you may want to use them for, since your routine and body is probably a lot different than mine.

Interesting. I've never seen lifting wrist wraps before. I'm only familiar with the boxing wraps which are much longer to wrap around the knuckles.

Went to aqua fit yesterday with the missus.

Needless to say, I was the only guy there and we were the youngest people by about 40 years.

It was actually a really good workout, it was an hour long and it's all underwater resistance type stuff. I could feel it afterwards throughout the day even though I didn't necessarily feel gassed during the actual workout.

Best part about it, my back feels fine so far today!

Heeeyyy, your back pain sounds like it's getting better then! Good!

  5. I'm also planning on tacking on roughly 30 minutes of cardio after each workout. I like swimming, so thats probably what I'll go for. The gym I go to has a pool, so that works out nicely. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Go for it. No impact, full body. Don't be surprised if you gain weight. I remember reading that your body temp is lower and you feel more hungry after swimming than other types of exercises so you tend to eat.. mind you, i don't remember where i read that so it could've been just testimonials rather than having any science behind it. my mechanic wanted to lose weight and went back to swimming and gained weight so there may be something to it..

I like swimming, long distance blading, the stationary bicycle and the rowing machine for cardio.

  6. Yeah man..... I guess, f 'em, I'm going to just go there 2 times a week, and goto the other gym up the street, I just liked going to this one cause it's right by my house and I just walk but they don't have a bench press, squat rack, deadlift rack or preacher curl station (all of which the other gym has).....

I haven't broken any rules what so ever, just don't fit into the social clique BS.

i've never dealt with any social clique BS in a gym. you go in, do your thing, don't talk, don't make eye contact and you get out. sort of like taking public transit. lol. your problem originated from the spacing out and staring. no one likes to be stared at! it either creeps people out making people avoid you or it turns them aggressive. knee-jerk reaction would be "wtf are you looking at?"

you've already got a rep at this gym and that's hard to alter. i'd say move gyms. keep a low profile. no one cares if you avoid people or don't smile or don't talk to anyone. however, they will notice if your social behaviour is different. be aware of what makes them uncomfortable. i guess you are aware though.. lol. i guess.. just control it..

  7. it's not a matter of showing a lot of pictures of a child or dog, it's avelanche literally showing 5 pictures in a row of the baby moving half an inch (if that) from one photo the next. it would be annoying if i saw him do it more than once every two months, when i'm nervy enough to go into those spam-encouraging threads

the redeeming quality about avelanche is that he's easy to ignore because he's not offensive with his obnoxiousness, whereas some people (i.e. magical) are just like adult fratboys, screaming really loud to hide their insecurities, or that CB007 dude who is approaching 40, has a batman signature, and spams atheist trash like it's 2008. these people have serious psychological development issues. they peaked far too early in life, and are now riding that low, offensive peak as an actual lifestyle

i noticed him in an OT thread. another noisy one. i suspect the demographic of cdc is the young student or the older blue collar. Feeling confident on their soapbox - one with a bit of education and not a lot of experience and the other, with a bit of experience but not a lot of education. and then there's the odd few with some education and some experience who come just to get attention and feel superior... but wet is gone now.

but of all things to bury a guy for? sure the pictures can get excessive but i just ignored most of those. it's really not hard to do. it's just a shame how i'm seeing these posts that "oh white noise is back" cause it was mostly centered around that drama but you can just say, oh it was just active again and people just having fun, but at what expense

i'm sure this place won't die a death without ave's presence, but how that thing was handled was pretty sad. i normally ignored most of avsies posts to begin with, so i can't comment on how some of you guys thought he was overly preachy and complainy lately. i just can't explain just how much i don't care, but it kinda sucks being the guy who had a helping hand on tonight's activities when he said he's done and leaving. who knows, maybe his time is up and he just doesn't fit in with the culture here anymore. thats how scott hartnells mane felt or something to that effect and he hasn't been back since. i loved that guy

he's leaving cdc because of that? really?

and SHM too? well. i confess, i didn't even notice he was gone. oh yeah, i guess i haven't seen any posts about marijuana lately.

  8. i reread tonight's show and nothing was that bad. The insults between Mag and 'i already forgot his name' at the beginning were the most seriously heartfelt jabs intending ego deflation.

  9. i liked the attention a4vnmg.jpg

i think that's the case with most on the board and they get disgruntled when others take that attention away.

To be fair, petty squabbles are the best form of squabbles.

    they're definitely entertaining!

  10. Dude, I've seen far worse, lol. Had to get up real close to some really nasty patients. Broken, misaligned, browned teeth, whitened gums. Oral cavities that gush blood at a light touch. So many people out there that haven't heard of the concept of oral hygiene.

    Dentistry sucks, lol.

bassi! are you in dentistry? interesting..
