Great. Time for JB to offer sheet one of Cernak or Sergachev. No more Mr Nice Guy JB. F Tampa and nice guys finish last.
Yeah but JB's shown he doesn't operate that way. Like with Miller, he goes straight up with teams when trying to acquire via usual means, rather than sneak around and force others' hands.

After OEL, Tanev, and Barrie. What is plan D for the Canucks and their Defense?
Tanev wasn't in the plans.

I think a lot of GM's are seeing the writing on the wall in terms of economics.
Players hoping for a pay day will be lucky to be playing at all.
Some GMs will be able to pick up studs for cheap I think.
Yup, there's only so much money available. Might be interesting to see who's still out there without a seat when the music stops.

So we lost our MVP goalie and one of our top shot blocking and steady defenceman (a defence that needed upgrade).
We also have a legit top 6 winger who is still in limbo, leaving Bo potentially on his own once again.
That’s not a concern for you
We are one day into free agency. ONE DAY.

While Benning hasn't name-dropped Rafferty or Rathbone in the same breath as Juolevi and Chatfield, recall that Hutton and Stecher both made the team straight out of college, unexpectedly. Rafferty already has a season of pro hockey under him, and Rathbone is likely a more well-rounded player at this point. Would not be surprised if the team suspects one grabs a roster spot.

This was day one of free agency, folks. DAY ONE.

Calgary freaked out after getting bounced in the post season then they lost Brodie and Hamonic. Over reaction and signed two older guys we are moving on from.
Next year they may get a little bounce but in a couple years they will be regressing and we will be contending. So its all good my friends.
They have core issues and so far seem to be in denial about fixing them. Even their media is saying Johnny Hoggy has to go.

Good luck Tanev.
I wonder what JB is brewing.
Pretty clear they were prepared to go without Marky and Tanev, so they have other irons in the fire beyond the OEL negotiations.

I'm beginning to think that there is an internal cap set by the owner family. Well, unless the plan is to sign AP.
Nope.

So the good news is Signer Jim was able to contain himself today.
Now we need Trader Jim to get creative and take advantage of some teams cap dumps like the Miller trade.
He did say he took quite a few calls today, on what sounded like opportunities to make moves. Maybe something'll shake down tomorrow, either cap clearance or an acquisition.

Michael Del Zotto is still available
Yeah, but Bartkowski also got signed today...

It’s gonna happen.
Benning has been after Barrie for a year.
Plus he probably wants to play here. All sign points to a 4 year contract for Barrie coming up.
Yup, been figuring much of the day that we'd see Tanev replaced with Barrie. If the Canucks really wanted him back they would have reached out before today. He became simply a contingency -- they have their eyes on someone(s) else. Jimbo determines who he wants, and goes out and usually get him.

What happened to all those complaining about Tanev being injured all the time and that we had to ditch him? And if we're going to improve the D, how do we do that if we bring back the same players?

Be great if we could manage him for something like $8x6.
We'd still need to pay to shed some cap but...

Have a feeling there might be a scramble for the remaining cap amongst the higher-ticket UFAs. Don't want to still be dancing when the music stops and there's no chairs left.

Yup, he said what he intended to do and is sticking to it. Going to be interesting to see it all shake down.
