@suitup I'd throw Stecher into that group as well, probably Gudbranson too- that's how he's billed to be, at least. From Juolevi's comments at the WJC and Brisebois (should he make the NHL) being a captain at such a young age hopefully we see them hit that level someday too.

Doesn't get much love but Gauncer is quite down to earth too.

.. this is not comparable to Jake's push off.

I know. And I think Weber only received a small fine for that. Just trying to make a point that what Jake did is nowhere as bad as people people make it out to be.

The 2014 development camp which Stecher took part in was when Benning was in charge and was a Benning invite. So no, no ther management can take credit for this signing.

Oh right! We were on the same page. I was trying to give Benning credit as well.

To the people saying he fell into Benning's lap.

The ground work was done two years ago.

To give credit where it is due, he did first mention that the Canucks have been in contact with him since the start this year - and only as a side-note does he say the team (previous management) showed interest two years ago when he attended the 2014 development camp.

One of my favourite goals in recent memory. If Markus can show that he has his brother's determination, he will have an even better chance of being a good pickup by Benning.

Brent and Wayne. Seems like a tale of two brothers :(

Where in the article does it say that? I don't see it unless I missed it.

It's been around several news sources.

I've been working on the highlights but I ran into some unexpected problems. unfortunately my hard drive died on me (fell during an earthquake, I live in Alaska so we get them constantly).

I am about halfway finished editing the clips together. Depending how much I can get done tonight I might be able to finish it and I'll release them tomorrow.

    Much appreciated!

  8. Ben Hutton throwback:

Ben Hutton doesn't really have an explanation as to why he's been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award for the second time in a row.

“I don't know how to answer that one there,” said Hutton, a junior with the University of Maine Black Bears. “I don't want to sound cocky or anything.”

The reply shows his character and it's statements like that why the Prescott-born defenceman was picked by coaches from across the NCAA Division I to be up for college hockey's top individual prize for the second year in a row.

He's one of 62 U.S. university players up for the award and online voting chooses who makes the cut to the top 10.

To show how tough it is to be picked, Jack Eichel – who is projected to be the second pick in the 2015 NHL Draft – isn't even in the top-20 for votes.

Hutton is closer to the backend of the voting tally, but he's not sitting by the computer regularly checking what place he's in.

“I try not to think about it, I just head to the rink with the team and play,” Hutton said. “Since the first day, I haven't checked (the vote count).”

On top of his character, Hutton has skill too. He has the most goals (5) and assists (9) of any defenceman on the Black Bears.

On Friday people were given a chance to check out Hutton's style of play with Maine taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish televised on TSN2.

TSN announced in October they would broadcast 37 NCAA games this season. Maine has been on the TV schedule twice.

“Every one around the league is getting recognized more, which always cool,” Hutton said. “I get all my buddies to tune in and they get to watch us play.”
