  1. Guardians 2 - 7/10. Good and enjoyable but can't say it was as good as the first one, which I thought was great.
  2. Logan - 8/10. Don't recall watching any X-men movie previously and was honestly a bit reluctant and ambivalent towards watching it but I'm glad I actually did. It was captivating enough from beginning to end that I don't think I looked at my watch to check the time once.
  3. The Peanuts Movie - 8/10. Absolutely beautiful animation, funny at times, charming story. Rogue One - 9/10. Loved the battle sequence at the end, and how menacing you-know-who was.
  4. Finding Dory - 0/10? Don't really remember much from the first movie, but as a standalone movie you question why it was necessary for this character's backstory needing to be fleshed out, other than the obvious fact for a cash grab. It wasn't entertaining nor captivating and some parts were hastily written story wise that is uncharacteristic of a pixar movie, without going into specifics.
  5. Zootopia - 8/10. Great movie with lots of great lessons. Kung Fu Panda 3 - 7/10. Enjoyable movie even without having seen 1 or 2.
  6. This part exactly. The way they built up the story for Black Panther was great and great acting on the part of the actor really helped to buy into his character. And Spiderman, what can I say, they hit it out of the park having a younger and comedic spiderman which made him very endearing. This is also what stood out in stark contrast to Batman Vs. Superman, there were so many bad things about that movie but one of the bigger ones was the casting.......*cough.......*cough.....Lex Luthor.
  7. Captain America: Civil War - 9.5/10. So many different characters and the pacing of their introductions was excellent. The movie had a really strong comedic side to it, brought by Spiderman who was probably the funniest, Antman, and the chemistry between Bucky and Falcon. Two particular scenes of the movie stick out to me, one involving Antman, - those of you who watch it will know which, and a twist involving Iron Man and Bucky. Overall, a very enjoyable movie which I felt was just as good as the Winter Soilder which I feel is probably the strongest of the Marvel movies.
  8. The Departed - 7/10. Super intriguing premise - The mob has a mole inside law enforcement, law enforcement has a mole inside the mob, it's then a race to find out who the other mole is. But unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations, especially the ending. 21 - 6/10. Interesting premise again. Smart MIT student needs money to get into Harvard Med School and starts counting cards. but again fell flat and didn't live up to expectations. Memento - 10/10. Keeping with the theme of interesting premises - Man is incapable of having short term memories and has tattoos all over his body reminding him of what has happened. It is through these tattoos the plot unravels. I really enjoyed how good a job the movie did of keeping the audience in the dark until the very end; never quite seen a movie unravel backwards quite like this.
  9. Deadpool - 7.5/10. Good movie but didn't live up to all the hype surrounding the movie.
  10. 8/10 - Frozen. Might've been a bit overkill on the musicals but it was entertaining and sustained my attention throughout.
  11. Inside Out 8/10. A feel good movie. Love their take on memories, personality, emotion etc. Also, how cute is Riley? Antman 8/10. Lived up to the promising trailer and worth a watch. Better than Thor (which I think is the weakest in the MCU) but not as good as other MCU films (i.e. Winter Soldier) but it definitely didn't exceed (what little) expectations as much as Guardians. Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Doesn't feel appropriate to give a rating but it was a good documentary on sushi.
  12. Mad Max - 7/10. Enjoyed the badlands/nomad aspect of the movie, and enough so that I look forward to the next movie. Avengers 2 - 6/10. I agree with others that it didn't live up to the hype & wasn't as good as the first one, for that reason I can't in good faith rate it as high as the first (which I would rate at about an 8).
  13. American Sniper - 5/10. Lost a bit of interest midway and to be honest had more fun reading up on/watching clips on youtube of Chris Kyle. Watchmen - 8.5/10. Pretty good movie; It's always interesting to see alternative superhero movies (i.e. Kick-Ass as opposed to mainstream DC/Marvel movies). The Hunt for Red October - 9/10. I'd characterize it as a stereotypical action thriller based on a (realistic in theory) cold war scenario. Personally found there to be some funny witty exchanges.
  14. Gran Torino - 10/10. Outstanding performance by Clint Eastwood.
  15. Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies - 9/10. Beginning started out a bit slow but one the battles began was where the action started to pick up. I thought the battle scenes were great, though the ones in the LOTR are still some of the best. Also, I thought the ending was serviceable for the hobbit trilogy and a good lead in into the LOTR, made me want to rewatch the LOTR trilory again. This movie was definitely more focused on the battles and not on the dragon and smeagle, which might contribute to why it was my favorite of the trilogy. The Interview - 7/10. Had several laughs throughout the movie and was enjoyable/some silly fun. Would never have otherwise seen this movie without the controversy and felt like I did my democratic duty afterward.
  16. Interstellar - 9/10. Minority Report - Has that believable science fiction to it and a deep depth of logic that say movies like Inception have but one that's much more approachable. Definitely a great film!
  17. Guardians of the Galaxy - 9/10. It's been hyped up as a must see and it certainly lived up to it. Coming in I had the lowest of expectations and expected it to be a comedy/complete joke and a side project of marvel's but it was anything but and far exceeded my low expectations. The movie certainly has created a great new universe for marvel with the intergalactic environments showcased here in the movie. But what impressed me even more was the character development. I won't spoil too much, but Groot although speaking very little expressed as much as the other characters in speech and had his share of touching moments that this movie had a lot of interspersed throughout the movie. Draxx's dealings with metaphors was hilarious, which honestly one of the movie's greatest qualities; I found myself and others watching laughing many times throughout the movie. Also, in addition to Groot, the other character you'll surely instantaneously fall in love with is Rocket the raccoon, I mean who doesn't love a raccoon with attitude?
  18. Iron man 3. 3/10. No substance, not engaging, forgettable story/characters, and definitely the worst out of the three. Lord of War - 6.5/10. Mildly entertaining, interesting take on the arms trade, had a breaking bad-esque feeling to it. The actor that played the interpol agent didn't look convincing though.
  19. TopGun - Does a good job of setting a tone, gives you a sort of appreciation for what fighter pilots do, a great movie for jet/military buffs, and is a classic that deserves that creditation. 9.5/10 Zero Dark Thirty - Like how it weaves contemporary events, gives great insight into events leading up to the capture of obl and the ruthlessness of seal team 6. Although they did miss out on the training leading up to the raid, the president/staff watching it live from the situation room, and seemed to depict the verification process as a visual check and not a dna check like it was in real life, nor did they include the part where they brought the body onto a u.s.warship and the subsequent disposal of the body. Nonetheless, espionage/military buffs will have a good time with it, though the explicit depiction of torture might turn some off. 8.5/10. Edit: Forgot to name the movies, thanks to the individual who pointed that out!
  20. He genuinely seemed like a like-able and down-to-earth type of guy. I felt that when Torts arrived here there was always this cloud of the 'old Torts' over him and every time he tried to be nice and jovial it just kinda seemed like he was faking it and suppressing what he really wanted to be. That's not to say people can't change, it's just that's the kind of vibe I got out of him.
  21. He was such a consistent power-forward for the panthers, it's such a shame he didn't work out here; was so excited for him to arrive initially.
  22. Kings in 7. My heart wants the Rangers to win due to the AV connection but my mind tells me the LA Kings are the better team and will win, in 7, because why the hell not? They've already done so in their last 3 rounds why not make it a record 4th.
  23. Blackhawks in 7, they put an end to the King's recent streak of squeaking out series wins. But I have a feeling whoever comes out as the winner in the west takes the cup, I just don't see any of the eastern teams taking out either of the western ones.
  24. Canadiens in 6. There's just something special about this Canadiens team, like it's now their turn to take a run a the cup, as the Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Sens, etc. did over the previous past decade or so.
