Pretty sure if we finish with the 9th overall pick and get the 30th overall for Kesler, we could snag the 3rd or 4th overall, which is a pretty good deal.
-
Realistically, best case scenario is we don't push for a PO spot and give some young guys some play time here. Really figure out what we have in Guance/Jensen/Corrado and then play the offseason well.
Put Kesler with the Sedins
Let the younger guys fill the rest.

Yes, this is MG's plan. If Kes is traded for something nice and we draft top 10, we would basically have rebuilt in 1 season. Let Lack dig his feet in b/c he will be starter next yr, lets tank a bit more. It doesn't even matter if we trade up or not, this pick if top 10 is for the future and a mere bonus, it won't immediately help in the rebuild.

"Exactly. Picks look nice but it's a long term solution and we don't replace even a portion of Kesler with it. Need a roster player young, prospect and pick "
This
Teams should just give up honestly
-
I don't think Kesler comes to us with his contract numbers, we don't have the room for him.
Also there is nothing that you can really give up.
To MG I'm thinking it would take a 2011 Cody Hodgson + prospect + 1st to get this done.

OK IF ITS A NO GO DAY an Kes stays ,there are only 5 UFA players this summer an every one an their dog will be bidding, an with our luck or lack of it,we will still have our cap space an no sniper on payroll next yr.An if we happen to luck out the word out on street how Lu was treated may not entice any one to want to come to vancouver.NY just took a Tampa player to compete an tampa freed up space an got draft picks next yr.We it seems are not gonna move any more major parts today an that thought sucks
Trade at the draft
-
Cannot see Kes going to any contender b/c they would have to give up too much to get him while also losing capspace to fit him in. He has control so he will veto any trade to teams that would actually give an arm and a leg to get him (non-playoff bound teams).
=
He will not be traded!
-
There is no bargaining ploy guys, if no one overpays for Kesler (as they very well should b/c he is not a rental), he stays, not until the draft, until the end of his contract! With Lu gone and the cap going up, we magically and finally have the capspace to sign him a decent winger. No more Raymond, Booth, Higgins, Sammy, etc marginal crappy BS for him to deal with.
Only problem with this is if Kes wants out and he has come out and said he does not!
From the fact he is still here and the crap offers, I conclude that there is no validity to the fact that he wants out. Philly would be out of their minds to not trade the farm for Kes. If I was PH I would be in whatever it takes mode IF I knew Vancouver was actually serious about this.
All this stuff is just media BS waste of time. They are dedicating frekin half a day of tv time and broadcasters and reporters going every which way, you really don't think they are going to cook stuff up and blow things way the hell out of proportion?
-
if Gillis has no balls to pull trigger on Kesler trade today he should be fired ,waiting on the draft day for a play will only net less .This could start the beginning of new regime .One way or another,I still liked the Philly offer an know Pitt is capable of putting more on the table, only a skilled GM can co-opt that out of another who wants to deal.
Something not mentioned too often, with Luongo off the books, Kesler doesn't have to go ANYWHERE anymore. Unless of course he wants to.
-
Making things up on the spot? You would make a great sportsnet analyst.
I'm surprised he hasn't been advance-scouted
-
Now I know that Matthias is not a replacement for Kesler, but I feel that adding him has really opened up the possibility of trading Kesler while still leaving us somewhat covered at centre. That's how I'm viewing it, anyway, I think Matthias is more than just a third line replacement.
Yeah he's a 4th line replacement as well. Really I'm just glad to have the cap-space. I would try to package Matthias.

Uhhhhh, Anaheim is already a favourite to win the cup. Do you really want to male them better. And even worse, watch Kesler shut down the Sedins for 6 games per year. Might as well write 6 losses in the L column, because it's unlikely we would win.
I never fully understood this theory. Ok so we don't trade them Kesler and then they go and get someone else. In the end we are the only ones getting screwed. I could understand this a little easier if we had some kind of precious commodity that was one of a kind. We are trading away a 2C, who tha hell cares where he goes? all this not within the division stuff is such BS
-
This deadline has already been fulfilled with a massive move. I don't think I can handle any more big trades...
Lol me too, I need a nap
-
Lou and Schneids for Horvat, Markstrom and Matthias. I guess time will tell
Cannot look at it like that, things happen in hockey and life, MG did a decent job dealing with it. The mistake here was the Luongo contract.
-
People from Sportsnet are all morons as far as I'm concerned.
No kidding...don't know how to explain it. They seem to want to out moron each other, everything they say is complete BS or speculative, facts are hard to come by.
-
A rumour started by Bettman to prevent the Nucks from getting value for Kesler!!
Rofl, we should really stash that guy somewhere anytime the Canucks are moving forward.
-
Not from what i can tell if they put Martin and Letang on LTIR and minus Sutter and Bennett.
Its not about how much they can take, but more about how much they want to. Booth would probably mean we sacrifice the first
-
Lucky for them we have 3 real solid ones for that! Edler Hamhuis and bieksa!
Rofl caught me off guard
-
Edler for Schenn and Vinny at 50%
Kesler, Booth to Pitts for Sutter, Pouliot, Bennett, 1st
Too much cap going to Pits

Internally, #Flyers aren't talking Kesler. Externally, they're pushing the price up on other teams. Some people don't know the difference
What a nutcase, thinks he's a genius. He probably also thinks the Flyers are currently the dark horse to win the cup.
-
"Edler is the puck moving defenseman the Flyers truly need to add".
Found that rather.....'interesting'.
You will probably still find it interesting when he is putting up 40+ points for them next year.
-
Oh yea, trade away the ONE player actually capable of producing. Genius.
It is if you think about it.
-
any Canuck fan actually wanting to see Kesler traded is an idiot. There is a reason so many teams want him.
Not really, he has a lot of value here, YES... But, he also wants out AND this team needs a retool lets say, cuz whatever this is simply is not working. Been like this for a few yrs now.
-
I would NOT give the Sedins yet another raise. They have been on the decline since the finals and injuries aside, they have not earned in.
Don't get me wrong, they are great players and I like them, but they do not deserve more money because of history. I would prefer to see a contract clause where teams can opt to reduce salary if big contracts players don't produce.
They already got a raise...that's what I was talking about going forward, next yr their cap hit is higher

So by the looks of it, we get to trade a non-existent Schneider for a top 10 pick again this season? Decent pick-up the way the season has gone.
Looks even better when you consider Calgary got some junk and a LATE pick for Iginla.
Meanwhile we pick up 2 top 10 picks without intentionally tanking a season.
