  1. In a way the negative attention and the questionable officiating are a sign the Canucks are at least competitive. Better than being irrelevant, I suppose.

Sestito is a prime example. 1 game and he's called out for being a goon. Thanks for noticing. Prior to that they had no idea who he was. Now he's a talking point on TV because he's doing exactly what he was signed to do.

Hesitation to give VAN a PP is also somewhat influenced by reputation. Once upon a time the Canucks had a PP.... So refs took that away calling it game management.

Who knows maybe the crappy PP% in the regular season may yield more calls in the playoffs this time? Really, who knows? The NHL is like a country with laws in name only, with the boundaries of those laws open to interpretations based on how many beers you had before the game.

  2. I think those waiting for a top 6 player may be disappointed.

The way I see it, ice time is limited. And it doesn't seem like top 6 FWs earn a spot based on scoring potential on this team, they earn the trust of the coaches.

So adding by trade means one of Daniel, Henrik, Kesler, Higgins, Burrows, Santorelli gets knocked down. Most likely not going to happen. And IMO Hansen and Kassian are better options than any rental available, if it meant giving up anything significant.

Best move ironically is probably a Booth for Samuelsson and Sturm kind of trade, for 2 expiring contract that can provide some 3rd/4th line playoff depth.

  3. I feel a big difference in late goals is the FO ability of Malhotra. Since he left the number of late game goals against seems like they've increased.

If Henrik isn't taking faceoffs, that's a big disadvantage. Richardson is good but not as good in the FO dot as Malhotra was. Maybe VAN should think about picking up a D zone FO specialist?

  4. I think you're watching the wrong games.

I guess I can handle losing better?

I think it was a great game. LAK game too. Everybody and their dog knew ANA would save it for the 3rd. VAN nearly got away with one. Ducks killed VAN in the 3rd. "Missed it by that much" is how I look at it. Still a good attempt to get 2 points from ANA in their building IMO.

  5. Of course more points would be nice. But come on,

2 top 6 FWs (Burrows, Higgins) out.

    2 out 6 D (Edler, Stanton) out.

Back to back against LAK & ANA.

I like what I'm seeing. I think they're playing great hockey.

  6. I feel VAN should trade him as he's not in a position to succeed here.

Booth is an offensive top 6 forward. Would fit better on other teams. He's under utilized on this team.

He's a prime candidate for a change of scenery resurrection. He's looking healthy. Kept up a good attitude. I think if other teams are looking, Booth is on their radar.

  7. Personally rather VAN went for Connolly than Kane. Less risk salary wise and less to acquire.

Love to get E. Kane but loosing top assets for Kane while knowing VAN could really use those ELCs to maximize cap could end up as a double whammy. It's a bigger risk than it looks on the surface. Probably involves dealing another contract of equal $ value away. ie buyout Booth in the offseason.

  8. Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has claimed forward Dustin Jeffrey off waivers. The team also announced that it has reassigned defenseman Aaron Rome to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ development affiliate in the American Hockey League

Surely the floodgates will open now.

Seriously, can we please open the floodgates now?
