  1. I'm curious exactlty what expectations people have of a Canucks defenseman?

I have seen threads calling every member of the D core a buyout candidate or trade bait. We do not have nor will ever have Bobby Orr on this team. Get over it we're having a bad year, goals are going past our rookie goalie, it happens.

  2. so was this, everyone on CDC was talking about how great a hit it was. Torres was not suspended for this either, everyone is talking double standards but the biggest one is the one we have when one of our guys gets hit like this

I think even Canucks fans were confused by the NHL pulling "designated hitting zone" out of their @$$.

That hit should have been suspended, but is not at all comparible to the one on Burrows. Niderieder's hit was still a head shot, targeted or not, it should have been reviewed by the league. Too often the "unintentional" shoulder to the head in a "clean hot" causes injuries and concussions. Look back to Stevens on Lindros or so many others

  3. It was a late hit that caused injury. A late hit is illegal. That's a suspension. Rome wasn't suspended for a head hit. he was suspended for a late hit. Why is it so tough to understand the difference between "late" and "head"?.

Normally the difference between late hit and head hit is that the league, in light of the NFL, must take head hits seriously. As a result the NHL is forced to ignore the majority of head shots or intent to injur or they would have to suspend more players.

  4. No. He wasn't the solution though either. There's no question the team can play badly but so could Lu and often did when the team was playing decent.

Exactly, if luo had a good game and the team falls apart in front of him, the final score is 4-3 for them, or we lose in the eventual shootout

  5. MG moved the "diva", not you, and along with him went a relatively tolerable contract actually (the only bad thing is the term, not the cap hit). This may be an upgrade at center but that's because this team has no depth down the middle. MG also gave up the team's entire goaltending for a THIRD LINE/FRINGE SECOND LINE center who is less proven than Booth and a goalie prospect with crappy numbers and an injury to boot. If you want to go by pedigree or potential alone, Markstrom is up there but in reality he isn't worth much more than a high 2nd rounder at this point.

I can't believe you think losing Diaz was the worst thing that happened. Diaz is a non-factor here. Lu, on the other hand...

I guess you are new to professional sports and many comedians bits on sports. "We" win, "they" lose, our team, so we traded Luongo.

As for Diaz, he was a moderate improvement over Weis. So ditching him for a fifth round pick is a disappintment. To me it appears we don't want/need depth for a playoff run, it shows where "we" are headed as a team

  6. I hate Linden fans. Most unrealistic people ever. The guy was a decent player and great off the ice. Nothing more.

He was also the heart and soul of the 94 team, and was that player that nearly fought back to win us the cup in game 7. Something that was very much missing in our lacklustre game 7 against Boston.

He was head of the NHLPA through 2 lockouts and was very respected by both the players and management throughout the process. Lou Lamoriello (you know the guy that got Shneids for a prospect), considered to be one of the best business minds in hockey had high praise for him.

He played on several all star teams and an Olympic team.

But you're right just an average player, no depth to this guy.

That all being said, throwing him in as GM especially at this point, is just throwing him to the wolves. I've always thought a spot in management or assistant coach was fitting for Linden, if he showed promise he could move on to something like GM or Coach.

  7. Nothing was worse than being at that game live. That was so damn pathetic. Like beyond anything on the recent slide. Silver lining is that I get to stay in the desert sun for a few more days. Woo Scottsdale!

On another note, end this effing nightmare of a season immediately.

I was at the LA "moral victory' and the 9-1 Anaheim loss, and I think i still got a more entertaining games out of the deal.

  8. What did you guys expect to get for Luongo? In light of his contract and his age I think Gillis did alright getting some young players back that would love a fresh start.

I think that Matthias will surprise some people.

Based on what we are sucking up on his salary, and the value half of the Canucks fans and press see in Luongo, I want to see a trade of equal value, a name for a name, not a star for a prospect.

I feel really bad for both Matthias and Horvat, when you see the pressure Kassian is under from the fans
