  1. Frankly, with the way Eriksson has played and treated the organization since he's arrived, I would be embarrassed to show my face here next year if I was him. I really hope he'll just waive his NMC/NTC. I really believe he's the cancer in the locker room and all the guys know it. I think it began with his contract and then extended to his complete lack of effort in every area.

  2. - Road trip from Vancouver to Montreal....in February

    - 2 or 3 Vancouver to Winnipeg road trips

    - 1 or 2 Vancouver to Calgary/Edmonton Greyhound trips

    - Seattle x3

    - New York x2

    - Portland

    - Dallas

    - Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam/Taiwan 2018

It's a bucket list thing of mine to see a NHL game in every arena. So far I've gotten Vancouver (PC & RA), Calgary, Edmonton, Dallas, New York (Manhattan & Brooklyn), & New Jersey. Got my tickets for Toronto later this year, fingers crossed they have a game scheduled during my trip.

  3. Personally, I think the stick-in-rink logo looks the best and classiest out of all our logos.

However, if the above is true and they are basically just removing the VANCOUVER from the jersey, I can live with that. Due to our insane amount of jerseys/looks, it shouldn't be a huge change we're going for. Would like some more green in there though, seems a bit too blue.

Marky has been great for most of this season (and really a lot of last year, too), but a fellow goaltender will note a major change in his play after switching to CCM gear (less than a month ago).

His pads are narrower, less blocky - a more traditional style. He's got an entirely different break with his glove too, he's catching everything now.

He looks less intimidating in net, but his equipment seems more true-to-size. He's a lot more fluid and natural in his movements.

Thatcher Demko also wears smaller, more streamlined gear than he could.

It's a page of out Marty Brodeur's book.

    Worked pretty well for him.

As a fellow goalie, I noticed the same thing. Also thought the Bauer's looked a bit blocky on him, and that they sat on his skate sort of awkwardly. I've read somewhere that Marky isn't much of a gear nerd, he just goes with what works. I wonder if the switch was at Ian Clark's behest?

Optically he can look okay. He hounds the puck carrier and keeps his feet moving.

And he can play on the penalty kill, albeit not very well.

3 pts in 19 games, he's a black hole offensively.

He's a -8 on even strength. Essentially provides no help 5 on 5.

Has started to lose his man in coverage over the past 5-6 games.

Not somebody you keep around if you have a good team.

I've noticed the same things over the course of this young season. I thought he might have a bit more offensive flair to his game but so far, nada.

  6. Just had a thought: Schaller is a placeholder for Gadjovich.

When we signed the 3 UFA's this offseason I wondered what for but I wasn't thinking long-term. Seeing into the future, I think JG or someone like him will replace TS after his current contract expires.

  7. I was just wondering about hockey gear brands, specifically, but not limited to goalie gear. Maybe someone could fill in the blanks.

So, if I have this right, Koho turned into Reebok which has now turned into CCM? What is the relationship between Lefevre and this company?

How about what ever happened to TPS? Heaton? Christian? Brown? Cooper?

Have Brian's & Vaughn always catered exclusively to goalies or have they ever made the foray into player gear?

    Thanks in advance!

First of all hope you saw this Disclaimer, I'm a homer. If Price ever played for us, I'd be his #1 fan. But in my books Luongo > Miller > Price.

Second of all, Luongo did deserve at least 1 hart/vezina... Montreal is a darling team, it's easier to win trophies when you play for them and their media.

You could argue Luongo was robbed in all of the following years 2000-01... he wasn't even included in voting even though he had almost identical number to Hasek on a terrible team...

01-02 , 02-03 all great years for luongo yet not even nominated ... no one watched florida play.

2003-2004 easily shoulda had the Hart trophy this year including the Vezina... yet they gave it to Broudeur who had 917 vs luongos 931... LOL! Man glad he wasn't a Canuck otherwise I woulda raged over this hard. What a joke, even Kiprussof finished 2nd in Vezina voting and he only played 38 games... poor Luongo 0.931 over 73 games gets you no respect....

2006-2007 ... in his first year as a Canuck... once again lost to Brodeur ... silly. Absolutely silly.

After this year he starts getting on all the balots but never winning... at least started getting recognized.

2010-2011 Thomas won, Rinne runner up and Luongo 3rd... I think Thomas was better this season.... Luongo was definitely #2 and he proved it when he went up vs Rinne

2015-2016 ... Luongo comes in 4th, ... what he did on this Florida team was stellar, he probably deserved to be 2nd but Holtby was the rightful winner

2017-2018 ... only 35 games played but absolutely electrifying when he played. If Kiprussoff got 2nd place votes in 2004 with 38 games played, not sure why Luongo wasn't top 3 this year too.

Luongo even has a better career save percentage than Price... 919 vs 918... and much better than Brodeur who in my opinion is the most overrated goalie ever. Two of his Vezina's should be Luis.

I'm still (sorta) upset Luongo didn't win the Vezina in 06-07. He was just unreal that year, we had such an unvaunted team but he made every game so exciting to watch with amazing save after amazing save. He made at least one absolute jaw-dropper per game. It was truly and honestly politics why Brodeur won it that year. Simply put, Luongo was a better goalie than Brodeur that season.

As far as the SCF goes, he was amazing in the games we won and bad in the games we lost. Specifically in the games we lost, he did seem to get progressively worse as the games went on. But that wasn't just him, it was the entire team deflating before our eyes.

And for the 2010 Olympics he didn't get enough credit. Yes, Sid does get all the credit but when there's an OT goal scored in a gold medal game the headlines will always be about the goal scorer - it's just the way it is. Price was the guy for the #1 job in 2014, hard to argue with his stats at the time, but I feel like Luongo would have won those same games with that team in front of him too.

A man went to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor had bad news.

"Sorry sir, but it looks like you have cancer and Alzheimer's"

The man sighed and said "well, thank god I don't have cancer!"

Biega caught Gaudreau from behind in 3d.  Penalty, but he can skate

Good to hear. In full disclosure, I didn't catch that game.

One thing I've noticed about Biega though is that his skating looks labor-intensive. He appears like he's not that smooth on skates.

But if he can catch up to Gaudreau, all the power to him! Get those games you need for eligibility, Bulldog!

  11. When people press the crosswalk button at a time they could easily jay walk. Whether it be early morn, late night, or whenever, I hate to see people with a perfect chance to jay walk only to hit the crosswalk button, making the cars that would've slowed down for them come to a complete halt.

I dunno, it's annoying to me.

  12. I think the rise of this team was with both Luongo and the twins.

Sedins weren't dominant or all-stars in 2006-07 when Luongo came here along with Mitchell but they grew a lot in the subsequent years as we all know.

Side note, I was a huge Canucks fan as a kid, and losing in game 7 to NYR was a weird emotion for a 9-year old gung-ho kid to deal with. Double that with the lockout the year after, I lost all interest in hockey and moved on to other things.

Fast forward to 2006 when we traded for Luongo, who I had heard of from keeping no more than a distant ear to hockey. I became captivated and watched that whole season listening to Jim Hughson call the games on Sportsnet on ch. 22 in awe of Lu. The whole team was lacking in skill but we only competed because of our goalie. He literally stole games for us. It was a Vezina-like season for him and he didn't win it due to mere politics. Brodeur didn't have the season Luongo had. Period.

Since then, I've been playing goal for the last 7 years and bought only Reebok gear until a year or so ago because I guess I wanted to be like Lu in the net.

People can have hate for him for whatever reasons, that's fine. For myself, I appreciate his human side and I understand life doesn't always work out the way you want it to. I'm sure he wishes we won the Cup and the departure wasn't messy.

Anyway, getting verbose here but he's the best goalie we've ever had. Nobody excluded and it's not even really close.

I don't know, I kind of hope Burrows sees and reads the thread one day as it is.  The thread title itself encapsulates what an underdog Burrows was to make it and stick around.  What started out as a legitimate question (do we need Burrows) became a running joke because of how clearly Burrows had proven that we do.  I think the thread, as is, would be an instructive time capsule for future fans.

I kind of wish the real-time thoughts of the fans had been captured for players like Don Lever or Kevin McCarthy or Sergio Momesso or Dennis Ververgaert or Rick Lanz or Chris Oddleifson...other players that we needed but who have sadly had their career arcs mostly forgotten.

I'd love for him to read this thread and see how the fanbase adores him. It's damn near 500 pages though, would take a while!

  14. Keep him! For these reasons:

    1. He'll provide intangibles; leadership, camaraderie, experience. These things are very important throughout the course of an 82 game season. Having as many young guys on the team as we do, he's someone they can look up to, someone who has come from the bottom, made it to the Show, and has been successful here. The Sedins are excellent leaders no doubt (you won't hear me say anything bad about them so don't jump to conclusions) but Burr is perhaps more relatable to the young guys. A French-Canadian guy who loves ball hockey. What's not to like?

    2. It would be a classless thing to dump him now. After all he's done for the franchise, coming up through the minors, doing anything he could to make the team then making himself invaluable to the team, what more can you ask a hockey player to do? He signed arguably the best value contract in the entire NHL for 2M per season during his best years while putting up 50 points on the top line (plus PP & PK). As has been said, treating players properly is how a franchise earns its respect.

    And to a lesser degree...

I wouldn't be surprised if he stays within the organization after retirement in some capacity similar to Manny Malhotra. Hard to do that if he's traded/waived/sent down. Although, it's not impossible (see: Trevor Linden).

And he's scored some immensely valuable goals for us! 2009 SH breakaway goal on Cam Ward to stop the massive losing streak... 2009 playoffs, game 4 in OT on Chris Mason to sweep the Blues... 2011 playoffs, game 7 in OT on Corey Crawford to eliminate Chicago (he also scored our 1st goal of that game)... 2011 playoffs, game 2 in OT on Tim Thomas to which put us up 2-0 at the time...

Let him play out this year, exit gracefully, and get a new contract elsewhere or transition into his next phase!
