I like Swedes, just no Midget Swedes.

I called it!   I knew P.A. couldn't resist but pick another undersized, soft Swedish finesse player from the motherland.     He's as easy to read as an open book.      What a waste of a pick taking a guy ranked in the 20's at No. 11 spot.

    God help this franchise..................................!

I feel like this is going to be the longest two and a half hours of my life - over a f*cking draft...

No need to lose nap-time over this because we all know PA will pick another regular season Finesse swede.

The first mess up was releasing Lisa LaFamme. The senior executive Michael Melling, the vice-president, was forced to take leave as a result of botching up one of Canada's top news anchors  (Lisa LaFlamme won big at the Canadian Screen Awards on Tuesday night.) so I suspect Mikey is back chopping more heads. :(

Lisa was a fantastic Anchor years ago but in the last year or two before her firing, she began to show her Age & Bias in many reports with Rolling eyes and shaking heads far too often after many reports.   News Anchors MUST be neutral  - no matter what!

EXACTLY! Petey and Hughes are brilliant players. Sure wish Benning locked them up for 8 years each.

I strongly believe that EP40 had something to do with the short -term contract he's on and not just because the Canucks organization was cap stuck at the time.    If he sees one more Aqua-Lini caused floundering year in this dis-organization I won't be surprised to see him ask for a trade. Even good players have their limit on mismanagement !

  5. Once Miller is traded in a few weeks before his NTC kicks in and we're no longer stuck with him until early in the next decade of the 2030's when he's way over the hill and pushing 40, things will begin to fall into place.

Aside from BB6 and Garland, he's one of the very few trade chips that JR can play to get us out of the cap mess he put us in by signing JTM & BB6 in the first place last year when they both should have been traded - which just compounded more bad signings upon JB's bad signings of the past.  I seem to see the same JB pattern continuing with this new regime and it's making many "normal" Canucks fans nervous.

You're right btw! I just checked my renewal email from the Canucks and it does mention Rogers Arena credits. Can't wait!

You mean where they give you your own money back in the form of a credit to force you to buy overpriced "Stuff" like .33 cent popcorn for $9.00 ????   That Credit???

This is a dumb article and a dumber time for the article. This is literally out as soon as Tkachuk is about to go to the SCF with the panthers. Where was this article last offseason or any time after Benning was fired. This is nothing more than clickbait to rile us up as the player we could have drafted is cup bound and Juolevi is in the minors.

Aquilini 100% had to know who was on our draft board. He’s a very hands on owner and I’m sure if he felt Tkachuk was 100% the best pick at the time he would have ensured his GM made a different pick. You don’t walk into a top 5 draft pick and say “oh this is fine, I’ll let the GM draft a project dman over what could be a game changing forward.” Dumb article and frankly I don’t buy it.

    I applaud your Restrained, Polite &  Diplomatic skill-set - calling Aqua-Lini "Hands-on" !

You know what most Non-Diplomatic Canucks fans call Aqua-Lini's meddling ????

Why are we even talking about this?

We SHOULD be talking about the real crime of the organization.

    Nedved over Jagr.

EVERYONE knew.  I remember.  EVERYONE knew that jagr was money in the bank.  Jagr was the pick.  But there  was "fears" and he wasn't chosen because Nedved was safer

But people still wanna sit here and moan that Tkachuk was the better pick over Juolevi and somehow some way Franky Aqua was not being informed at the moment of the pick.  We know better.

Let's move on shall we, lest I bring up the Neely fiasco, Linden over Roenick/Selanne/Brind'amour, or...dare I mention it; drafting Herter and his whole 1 point over Lidstrom and Federov in 89.  What could have been.

Aint hindsight great?  Isn't it?  guys?  Hey guys?

Amazingly. looking back at that draft year.  There were some astonishing "gems" hidden in the later rounds too like P. Bondra in the 8th Rd., Lang in the 7th and Zoo-Bov in the 5th...amongst a host of others like Dougy Weight, Sanderson & Kozlov.  .................and honorable mention for our Brad May who certainly had a presence on the ice!!!   It was a very strong draft class that year to say the least.

wasn't you who said in the Devils - Hurricanes thread that you can't win with minions (Jack Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Mercer) in the playoffs? Pettersson's regular season numbers are always gonna be nice and all, but who knows if he'll be able to replicate his bubble performance. While Tkatchuk has just proven that he's built for playoff hockey.

Very bang on - what you said about being built for playoffs.   That is the primary difference between the two.  K-Chuck is built for a grinding "Take No Prisoners" Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey on small N.A. ice , while EP40 is built for a low contact, no fighting friendly Olympic Tourney on a Euro sized Mega-Rink where he can skate away from contact and heated arguments.

     Big difference !

Before I saw Jagr play. I was not a fan of Nedved. Yeah he did great in the WHL. He was always, how do you say it? Aloof? Didn't seem to be much of a team guy. I would have been happy with Sydor to be honest let alone Jagr. No one talks about we passed on Tkachuk or Brodeur 1990 for Shawn Antoski.

or the many others we passed on.........  Enough said!

  11. It's in the Canucks DNA to select Euro-centric Finesse players instead of tough, no BS, Big Canadian players who's goals are to win a Stanley Cup - NOT - an Olympic Gold medal.  We have a very long history of this and why our team has mostly been made-up of of soft, pushover players for decades with the exception of few.   Just look at the last several seasons with this current core.  With exception of Schenn, Joshua and occasionally JTM, no one else has the size, grit or ability to be a factor in keeping other teams in check.

If you've been watching the playoffs, this year like all others, it has been a rock em - sock em battle of the biggest & toughest and we all have to admit that our current core of small, regular season finesse players would be annihilated in the playoffs with many of them put into hospital.   Aside from Tock-It, even JR stated early on that we needed to get bigger, stronger and grittier and be a hard team to play against - and here we are today still stuck with the same crew and still awaiting change minus Luke Schenn type of players - then what does P.A. do?    He goes out and waste our 1st Rd. pick last year on another puny, Swedish finesse player.  Will it ever end???

Needless to say Benning should have been fired years earlier instead of getting another contract extension, so that flies right in the face of Aqua-lini for being "asleep at the wheel" AGAIN !  He is this franchises Problem #1 and never lose sight of that !  It's his poor decision making that allowed the JB & TG disaster to prevail for years & years despite never ending failure - No one else.

A guy who was never going to make our team and a 7th round pick is the literal definition of a nothing burger.

Still a Draft Pick and a prospect that could be thrown in as icing on the cake on some other deal or used to fill a spot on the farm - instead of being TOTALY wasted.  If it was good enough to trade for a bad 1st rounder it might have possibly been used for a mediocre 2nd rounder or better 3rd or 4th rounder.    Every asset should be maximized  - not squandered - that's how this team got in the rut it's in with fish-bowl thinking like that !

  13. Funny how all the Benning-lemmings shouted their overwhelming support when he was given that last contract renewal with his AHL Calibre coach - sidekick Green (just before they were both fired, put on a barge and pushed out to sea), when most "Normal" Canucks fans were screaming for both their dismissals years prior - proving how tone deaf and incapable Aqua-Lini is in managing this team.  There is no excuse for the stupidity that Aqua-Lini allowed this franchise to endure under his incapable ownership.

Let's not lose sight of the real issue at hand with this franchise!!

  14. It's a sad state of affairs when our franchise has to push "Building tours" as a highlighted benefit for supporting the team.   This is almost as bad as their new add campaign video where their latest stated team goal is "To show up prepared to play".  (God forbid - if you can believe that !)  Isn't that hockey 101 and something you learn in Pee-Wee ?

What a travesty this franchise has turned into with such a low-bar for success and reason No. 162 why Aqua-Lini needs to sell this team to new more responsible owners and fans need to give up their ST's and stop buying Canucks merchandise and starve Aqua-lini until he's out of the picture.
