We had a similar group last year that was fine under Shaw.  Yeo has a proven track record of being a problem everywhere he goes.  It's no coincidence that our structure has been poor after this scumbag was put in charge of it.

Was it really fine tho? Demko playing at a Vezina level helped to mask a lot of those issues.

  2. Some excellent points. The UFA market was bone dry for quality top 4 defensemen and I can’t think of any team in the league willingly to give up one in a trade without overpaying. With Kuz, Mikheyev, Lazar, and Joshua our forward group got more skilled, faster, bigger, and most importantly better defensively. Rathbone can be put in a position to succeed as a puck mover who brings offense paired with a stay at home guy under sheltered minutes. Dermott hopefully picks up where he left off last year and there’s no way our defense can be as bad as last year.

  3. Out of this list Boeser for sure. But I see no way he gets traded anytime soon after just re-signing unless we’re sending him home to Minny. Not sure if trading Miller will even  be worth it either, doesn’t seems like anyone is willing to part with a RHD and losing him puts us thin at C.

I'm also curious to see if perhaps Bo might find some chemistry with Kuzmenko. So far Pearson has been the guy Bo plays best with, but he's not a big goal scorer or point getter on his own.

I think having bigger guys on the wing benefits Horvats game well. Guys who are strong on their skates and can protect the puck. Gives Bo much more room to work when he’s not the only one drawing defenders. Kuzmenko - Bo - Pod is a potentional intriguing line.

  5. I think the addition of Mikheyev and Lazar will at least help our defense a little bit. From what I hear they are both good PK’ers and the speed Mikheyev brings will help our backchecking. Simply too many odd man rushes against last year and if our forwards can do better defensively thats a big plus.

There’s an argument to be made for and against Rathbone. If he’s being deployed right with sheltered minutes and a strong defensive guy on the right side I see no problem. Question is if his puck moving and offensive abilities outweigh his potential subpar defensive play. Dermott may have top 4 potential both him and Burroughs are guys you don’t notice out there for good reasons and rarely get caught making obvious mistakes. Which of these options would you take if you had to choose?

    Option A:

    Hughes - OEL

    Dermott - Myers

    Rathbone - Schenn/Burroughs

    Poolman/Juulsen

    Option B:

    Hughes - Schenn

    OEL - Myers

    Dermott - Burroughs

    Rathbone/Juulsen/Poolman

Rutherford has been repeating that they want to clear cap and unravel contracts.  He just told MacIntyre that they are not where he hoped cap wise and that it would cost assets to off-load contracts.

Who do you think he is talking about?  Doesn't feel like it's only Dickinson and they apparently like Poolman.

    Burroughs over Poolman all day

  7. Not sure how many teams out there are willing to trade a top 4 RHD to us. Assuming we don’t trade any of Miller/Garland/Pearson/Myers and we roll with the same defense. Schenn either on the top pair with Hughes or on the bottom pair with Rathbone. Thought Myers had a better year last year but I don’t see him working well with Hughes. Dermott I see as more of a 5th guy with potential as top 4 but hard to bank on that. Burroughs over Poolman on the bottom pair all day. Juulsen is a decent call up but would like to keep him in Abby for another year.

  8. Anyone else just get frustrated watching how obviously predictable our power play is? JT Miller fakes slap shot, drops to Hughes who one time passes to Petey who fakes one timer… No movement at all and the same cycling between the same 3 players. Why aren’t they working down low and creating more room? As of right now our power play is 16th in the league which isn’t terrible but with the talent we have up front I see no reason we can crack top 10 or even top 5. I just question the personnel Green ices, Chiasson doesn’t belong there when you have Boeser and Garland wasting away on the 2nd unit. I think we should try JT Miller in front of the net, which was his bread and butter in Tampa, and put Boeser or Garland on the left half wall, whatcha think?

I could see OEL - Myers taking on the heavies duties and toughest opponents. Hughes and Hamonic the next wave on tougher opposition. Schenn, Juolevi and Rathbone maybe a bit easier tasks.

At least to start the year.

Is Myers someone we can rely in that role? I want him to succeed but he makes way too many obvious blunders.
