Funny, all the line up/batting order stuff that can go on.
Shouldn't they just bat in order of who has the best % that week/ or month?
Get the guy, most likely to get on, on; then the next best chance to advance that guy?
This is baseball, man. You've gotta consider at least eight different kinds of stats / fancy stats before making such a decision.
I see where you're coming from. I think a lot of it also has to do with batter's tendencies to hit different types of pitches, where they typically end up, and similarly the tendencies of the defence (pitchers and outfielders). But then again I still feel pretty new to baseball myself; I would indeed defer to Rup for these kinds of takes.
That said, yikes guys. I had such high hopes for this team this year. I am pretty well done with this front office, barring some sort of miracle turnaround.

How far do you want to take this concept tho, how many areas of our justice system should this apply to?
The fact is, we need harsher penalties for the drivers and the businesses that put them on the road. Going light on them isn't the answer imo.
This part right here.
Health and safety is huge in other so many industries, it should be the same for trucking. Businesses should face more accountability for their standards, who they are putting on the road, and how prepared they are for it. Emphasis on safety above all else, especially as it isn't only their employees in danger when things go wrong.

I think we're seeing the effect of Bo working with Tulo this offseason. We see a lot more of him flipping the ball while on the move, rather than planting and gunning it across the diamond. That was something TT did better than anyone. (with the possible exception of Tony Fernandez)
It's still a work in progress, as we saw back on the 19th in Boston, when he made 2 bad throws, likely costing the Jays the game (although like Shizzy said, the 2nd one is probably scooped by the first baseman, more often than not)....but for the most part, BB has looked pretty comfortable making that play this season....
I'm still fairly new to baseball, so I'm glad that's something I've actually picked up on myself (more throwing while moving vs. setting first). Always enjoy your insights in this thread, Rup!

Wow.....Bo has a ton of power for a guy that size....Grand Slam to right field with plenty to spare....
It has truly baffled me since I started watching him how this kid, who looks like a 13 year old, can hit balls like that. That was epic. F&%$ Boston.
Maybe he'll break out after this. No more defensive errors either, Bo!

1 down, 3 to go against the Yanks. Feels good to shut them out.

QuoteGREENWICH, Conn. -- A Connecticut 10th-grade hockey player has died after falling to the ice and being cut on the neck by the skate of another player during a game, school officials and police said.
The accident occurred Thursday as the junior varsity team at the Brunswick School, a college preparatory school for boys in Greenwich, played St. Luke's School, a private co-educational school from New Canaan.
St. Luke's identified the player Friday as Teddy Balkind. He fell to the ice and the other player was unable to stop and collided with him, Greenwich Police Capt. Mark Zuccerella said Friday.
Brunswick Head of School Thomas Philip said in a statement that Balkind suffered a cut to his neck. He said those who were at the game described the play as "entirely normal and unremarkable in the game of hockey."
"I want to commend our medical, coaching and security staff for all that they did in the most terrible of circumstances to sustain the boy until the ambulance arrived," Philip wrote.
No classes were held on Friday because of a snowstorm, but St. Luke's Head of School Mark Davis said the building would be open in the afternoon so that the community could gather to grieve.
"There are no words adequate to this moment, and I know all of us will support each other as best as we can," he said.
This is terrible, have to feel for the family and community.

Did he play last night?
He did. 0 points, +1, 2 shots, 18.59 ice time. Heard his name a few times, but otherwise not over noticeable.

I’m against trading Gurriel, because of the bond he has with Vladdy and Hernandez. I know it’s a business, but you don’t really want to upset your franchise player by trading away one of his closest teammates.
Grichuk, Kirk, and Orelvis Martinez could possibly get it done.Plus, Pineapple Power!

A very respectable top four starters.
Real excited to see just how good Manoah is going to be moving forward. He had a fantastic coming out party this year.

Nice knowing you, Stevie Matz. Jays reportedly offered him 3 years, but unsure of the dollar amount. Signed for 4x11 with the Cards.

Brad Hunt, of course.
Seriously though, stick with Bo. It's his team. Everyone (except management apparently ) knows the meat of the problem is coaching. Make changes there, give the team (the core, anyway) a chance to bounce back as they are, and reevaluate. Give these players a real opportunity to rally back with one another and I think they'll be stronger for it.
Miller is not the problem.

Should make this the literature thread — Recommendations, reviews, news; CDC has some pretty long standing and informative topics, and if there were a lit thread as epic as some of the others on here, it'd probably be my personal favourite.
As for the OP: Eyeless in Gaza by Aldous Huxley is one of my all-time favourites. Ape and Essence is a great, shorter read as well.

And that's why, even if you're up by 7, you still go for the slam if it presents itself.

Avs in 7. Dallas is underrated and I think will be able to grind out some wins, but ultimately Colorado will just be too much for them. Wouldn't be surprised to see MacKinnon just take over and end it sooner.

Heat wave has brought thunder and lightning on the sunshine coast
While we were up watching the game last night my lady and I kept seeing flashes against the west wall of a building next to ours (Collingwood/Joyce area of Van). Minimal rain (came and went a few times, but nothing prolonged) and no thunder; we kept hoping it would come closer as we both love thunderstorms. Also the rain might have helped cool our damn apartment a bit.

I was curious to verify one way or another, and found this about Devan Dubnyk's contract from 2014:
