  1. That was a tough collapse to watch, but they'll learn. Tough times are where players grow together as a team as long as it's not excessively prolonged, ala Edmonton. It's been a bit of a slide lately, but I think they're nearly through it. Beagle/Sutter/Rous back will be a significant boost, and Ferland hopefully will be too.

Positives? Two goals from Gaud, in different styles. Man, he's really coming into his own, playing with a lot of confidence. Miller continuing his dominance as well, man was he ever a great addition. Quinn, another 3-assist game. What a talented kid, drives so much from the back end.

People really need to stop purchasing and voting against their own self interests (or being so easily duped as to what in fact is).

The biggest cause of the whole wealth issue. Nothing's going to change until execs aren't given the option to give themselves/each other unjustified/insane salary increases at the expense of their workers. This is pretty much every corporation. I don't care how valuable you think you pencil-pushing insight is to a company, you are not worth 200x your actual moving, working employees doing the real work. May as well go back to scrips and company stores at this rate.

Funny you praise the Aussies.  They have an age tiered min wage where you don't make $20 until you reach 21 years old. 17 and under only makes 11.27 per hour.

When Kenney proposed this exact same strategy in Alberta you and few others on here lost your minds on him.....Strange how the exact same strategy is praised and labeled good in one thread but terrible the next....

    Interesting. I hadn't seen that.

Wages have not kept up to the cost of living period.  Speculatory home building based on the promise of ever increasing profits has made it impossible for the average person to own in a city, let alone a suburb, trickle down promises have fallen flat and consecutive governments at the federal level for almost 15 years have continued to trend of subsidies to the wealthy with no real change on the horizon.  And even IF by the numbers the current government is making life more affordable for the average family, it is ONLY by the numbers because the day to day reality is that most people living in mid sized to large cities are one large power bill away from bankruptcy or homelessness.

Something will give and soon.  It has too.

Yep. I live in a 1-BR apartment in Van with the lady. We want to move to Ontario, get away from the major cities. Unfortunately I had the crazy notion that I wanted to get a modest post-secondary education before doing so — I had to change jobs to be able to accommodate the time for class, so I jumped on the first one I could get about a year ago (barely minimum wage, raises do not exist within the company, and have been looking for a better situation off and on since). Luckily the lady's got a nice gig now (around that median wage) so we manage alright, but last year we really had to watch things like our heating (were cold many nights) because we can't afford a $300 winter hydro bill, on top of whatever else might pop up. Luckily I'm close enough to finishing my schooling that I've started looking for a job in my field (should get to around $22-25/hr). Gonna save up, and we're going to bolt as soon as it's feasible.

But it's a real problem: one major expense comes by and it could put us back months. Moving ain't cheap.

Not that I'm blaming anyone for these hindrances, but it just illustrates that it's not quite as simple as "get a better job," or "move somewhere you can afford to."

pearson has quietly had a disappointing season thus far and horvat could use a little help on his wing. All things being equal, virtanen has probably been horvats best winger so far :frantic:

playing horvat with baer is something everyone wants to see

Especially if Virt keeps playing the game he's been playing lately, it would be nice to get a look to see if the chemistry is still there between those two. Some "fresh" blood on that line could re-energize them a bit.

  6. I actually kinda like it. 9/10 people seem to hate every new jersey upon release, then it grows on some. Remember when the Canucks announced their alternates for this season? The hate was abundant (myself included). I've grown to like them quite a bit now (though I still hate the "updated" S-I-R crest). Though it would've been cooler if they threw in a subtle North Stars reference somewhere. A shoulder patch maybe.

Random, as in he did not know him.

As any good bus driver, he tries to govern his vehicle to provide the best service for all. Like asking people to move back etc...

I do think he had got into to it with anyone specifically from what I remember. As you said, some people do things over dumb stuff.

Poor bus drivers. I hardly ever take them. But ...here comes another story....

Couple years ago, I was on a rare bus ride down Main and getting off on Terminal. Double long bus. A mentally ill man in the back pulled out two knifes and starting saying he was going to kill people. Myself and an older man immediately told the driver. He pulled over and told everyone to get off. The old guy and myself got in between the knife guy and made sure people got off. There was a lady near him with a stroller for gods sake!

He locked eyes with me. We were off the bus now...people had scattered.

I remember playing a get away game with my brother when I was young. You get behind something, like a car, when he tries to run one way you got the other and keep your safety by switching directions when he does. I was now doing this with the knife guy, he was coming for me...I was using the bus shelter to run around. He got frustrated, slammed on the buss shelter a bunch, then started toward the east side. The old dude, who had stayed, followed the guy with me at a safe distance until the cops showed and arrested him. By this stage I had my collapsable baton out of my back pack because i knew I would have to go in if he stabbed anyone walking by before the cops got there.

Yep, that got my heart rate up a bit.

Quite a story. Good ol' Main. Way good on you and the other guy for assisting in the situation.

    It happens a lot.

He really is a big tough dude too, used to be a good bouncer.

He was leaning to look out his window to the left, vulnerable position. The guy caught him on the side of the head and again on the shoulder, then ran.

Yeah, you see people confronting drivers over dumb stuff all the time. Obviously an escalation to violence is always unwarranted. Your friend's situation — Wow, that guy sounds incredibly cowardly. Was it random or did the guy have specific beef with your friend?

There was another video on the news this morn of a guy kicking in a bus window and spitting on the driver. I have a friend that is a driver, despite being 6'4 and tough he got sucker punched so hard last year he needed a lot of time off. You hear about these stories if you know people that work in the industry, but the video today helped emphasise their need for better protection to the general public.

Jesus, what is wrong with some people? Bus drivers (in my experience at least) do way more good for their riders than bad.

  10. Just finished Chuck Pahlaniuk's "Invisible Monsters," and began Tom Robbins' "Another Roadside Attraction."

Never read a Pahlaniuk book before. It was pretty much what I expected: delightfully cynical, occasionally disturbing, definitely F'd up, and — in my head — entirely narrated by Edward Norton.

I've read a bunch of Tom Robbins, he's probably my favourite living author. I've hoped he'll put out another book or to before he vanishes, but it's been 16 years since his last* so I think he's done.

    *Novel.
