Alf. I'm a huge fan of Jake. Always have been and am still rooting for him to break out offensively. Let's not put the cart before the horse here.

Jake has been playing well recently, but I still want a larger sample size to see if his play is the real deal or not.

I think people have kind of just 'settled' with Jake, not really having any heavy or huge expectations anymore. And so any indication of a breakthrough is garners a huge response from the fanbase.

With that being said, I hope he plays well tonight against Florida.

    Agreed.

Its entirely possible that these are only flashes of brilliance from a man who has lots of potential but still hasn't shown enough consistency to be a top 6 winger.

There are two questions I would have.

If we lose a goalie to expansion, who does that allow us to keep that we would have otherwise lost from another roster position?

If we lose a goalie to expansion who would qualify as our next backup( an under rated position for a bubble team)

Right now markstrom is the better goaltender. But TD is the more valuable commodity to the organization.

No way we don't protect him if both àre around for expansion.

An accurate assessment of what goalies will be available is crucial.

    IMO Benning better keep both

We agree.  I just think if we are trading a goalie, we trade Demko because he will return value we can use.  I don't think (even signed) Marky has that trade value.

I feel like Demko is too good to trade away :P

If your goal is just to reach the playoffs, then fine

But I am older than dirt, and I want to see us win the Cup

I think most the times on record, you need to take a few runs at it to win

and I do not see where Markstrom's time table and ours are in sync

It underlines one of our historically greatest problems

Which is afraid to make the big move to put things in sync

Here we got a goalie, who is in the now, and IMO a goalie

    just coming into his own......

IMO, WE HAVE THE OPERTUNITY to trade Markstrom

and possibly another player, and solidify our young team for 10+ years

getting a younger RHD and possibly a prospect, that will truly

complete our team, and keep us cap compliant for years...….

Sure it would be good to have Marky and Demko long term

But long term, what is the cost? Marky at 6 Million+

Demko 4 Million?????? How does that work with filling in the team?

And is the cost of Seattle taking someone else.....

Well, we know from Vegas, the cost is a 1st, or equal asset

    That too weakens the team

CDC can not have their cake and eat it too

Sorry, there was confusion between me and Alf during the discussion, he's not saying that we shouldn't trade either one.

I see.  That makes sense to have both goalies under contract before trading one away.  I see the Seattle expansion draft making a difference too.  If we are going to maximize our return for a goalie (I say trade Demko, because I think he's got a higher value) we better do that before the coming draft, or at the draft.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps make sure we reserve both goalies to make sure Seattle doesn't get them and then trade if we can't make a move? If anything, the last thing we want is another Luongo-Schnieder problem but we lose too much value if we don't reserve them both or don't trade one. We're better off allowing Seattle to take one of our defense-men considering were a little weak on that end so don't lose too much value when the expansion happens.

What do we get for an unsigned Marky, after the season is over?  I think we are a playoff contender, so it's highly doubtful we trade either goalie until the season is over.  Demko will have quite a lot of value.  Marky will be a coming UFA, so he will have zero value, no?

I meant after we sign him and after the season. Sorry, I was thinking long term :P

    Resign Markstrom ASAP to 2 - 3 years, 5.5 - 6 million Cap Hit.

Demko needs at least this full season as backup. He's looking good, but he's had a handful of games in the NHL. Doesn't need to be rushed to be our #1. 25 - 30 games this season, 30 - 35 next season and let's see how he holds up.

With Demko eventually moving up, IMO we trade Markstrom while his stock is high and grab an Elite Defenseman to play with Hughes for an extreme top 2 D pairing. It'll be like Pronger + Niedermayer  all over again :D

  8. The question on my mind is:

Considering the "Bertuzzi incident" can it really be said that he should be in the Ring of Honor? I don't know if a good record of conduct is a factor in deciding whether a player should be placed inside The Ring of Honor which is why I'm unsure. The problem is that that incident had rippled so far across the hockey world, that hockey players may see this as a way of saying "As long as you put up the points, your behavior doesn't matter"

So...should he be in The Ring of Honor? I'm neutral about the situation.

I think he will get bigger (weight wise), but not a lot.  His shot has never been all that impressive, so I don't know how much that will improve over time.  His real assets are his incredible vision, passing ability and striking skating ability.

Quinn has probably always been considered 'undersized' at every level of hockey that he has played.  All the family; including the parents, are on the small side for hockey.  I think he is accustomed to having larger players trying to shove him around and has managed to adapt his game to deal with it.  He certainly doesn't have an injury record; so far anyways.  His vision and sharp turns may be what keeps him healthy.

That in of itself is what could be the difference between a Norris winner and a 2nd pairing Offensive playmaking D-man.

I agree with all of your points.  He's doing extremely well for such a young player.  He struggled with Draisaitl along the boards all night long.  However, he did strategically apply the body in a couple of situations quite well.  I have no concerns that this will be a long term problem for him and expect him to have it worked out over the next couple of years.  In the meantime, we'll likely see him become even more dominant playing with the puck.  He has such excellent edge control and vision that it's hard not to get excited.

Well he was utilizing his body...his problem was really only that much larger men were shoving him out of position these past games. Its either he gets a better shot or gets bigger if he wants to hit his maximum potential.

They actually played their best hockey of the game after he left. The play of Price should not be overlooked. If you look at player's comments after the game (from both teams) you'd see that the Nucks had some grade A chances and he stole the show.

Not sure what you mean. Our team seemed to lose a lot of energy and dynamism after Petterson left. One of Montreals' commentators even mentioned it during the game.

Also, yeah Price was godlike that night.

It’s no secret that Jacob Markstrom is currently playing the best hockey of his career right now. His past 6 games he has 6 wins and a sub 2 GAA. Not only are his numbers really good, but even a fan like me who knows very little about goaltending can tell he looks more solid in the net and is giving up fewer opportunities for easy goals.

Now obviously, 6 games is a small sample size. But I started to wonder, how long until we’re convinced Jacob markstrom can be a legit starter? 1 month? The rest of the season? This season and next season? Lots of goalies have one good year then cool off again (Talbots a couple years ago, Mike Smith last year, etc.).

I’d be wary of labeling him as a bonafide number 1 until at least the end of the season to see if he can at least maintain his above average numbers from here on out.

Anyways, I don’t know how long this play from markstrom is going to last but I’m going to enjoy every minute of it till it’s over.

Too many factors to consider, what would his save percentage be? What is his GAA? How many games would he play?

However, even if he were to do well in everything, one month is too short, we'd need to see what he is capable of long term. IMO wait one and a half more seasons and look at his stats.

  13. Also, remember that

ROFLMAO none of these guys are close to Pettersson. I honestly can't believe how amazing Pettersson is right now. Having him is almost too good to be true. You think he'll be greater than Bure?
