[Realistic Replacements: Mason Raymond]

The 4 million that Raymond's agent asked for was nothing more than an inflated number to bolster talks and push the Canucks to avoid arbitration, which in all likely hood, would have granted him more than the 2.5/2.6 million 2 year contract he agreed to.

He likely would have received 3 million for a one year deal. The Canucks offer him a multi year and everyone is happy.

I personally think people under appreciate what Mason brings to the team.

His speed causes havoc and draws penalties on a regular basis. He is a tenacious forechecker. Tied for 2nd on the team with 8 PP goals. Tied for 3rd with 4 game winners.

This is all while playing on the second line, which I think makes his 53 points, more impressive than Burrows 67.

Mason Raymond is a key component to the Canucks and is the perfect fit on a speedy, gritty, second line.

Im not saying he will ever turn into a St Louis, Kariya, or even a Briere, but you know if we would have let him go, that likely would have happened right (?)
