He is a guest on too many shows, The VanCast is unbearable with him on it, his pale face (reminiscent of a clown) is a major eyesore for television.

An analytics dork who can't skate backwards and thinks Brad Hunt is a god. A wannabe of a person who is no longer with us.

The questions at press conferences are long winded and bias, with shocking regularity, Petey even called him out recently.

I could go on.  Is anyone else tired of him?

His pale face? thats what you have a problem with? sounds pretty shallow to me, I am not a huge fan of Drance at times but thats a stupid comment..

What if someone said of sat or harman "their brown faces are a major eyesore for television?" Reality is Harman has a little more charm that Drance because he is younger... but he is fairly similar to drance. A lot of times he just pukes out numbers and talks in circles without much knowledge of the actual game.

dislike someone for their work, but to judge someone on appearances is pretty pathetic.

What I like about Reinhart is that he scores usually in two ways, net front tip/redirection on the powerplay or off the cycle in close on the net.

Something the Canucks did not do enough of was get bodies in front of the goalie and get dirty goals. A lot of the ways that the Canucks scored this past season was off the rush but couldn't sustain as many goals off of sustained pressured.

I looked at the goals package out of their 151 goals scored this season, 124 were 5v5

    5v5 break down

59 goals - off the rush

28 goals - Sustained offensive pressure

    23 goals - forced turnovers

7 goals - off of faceoffs

    7 goals - empty nets

Majority of the goals were opportunistic and off the rush plays. What the Canucks severely suffered was sustaining ongoing offensive pressure and converting on those chances.

Looking at Reinhart's goals from 2019-2020 + 2020-2021 season, majority of his goals were scored in tight or off of sustained pressured plays. Canucks need to start trending away from relying on off the rush plays and begin building an offensive system that garners more finish and reward off of sustained pressure in the ozone. However, that is Green's system, skating hard and looking for opportunities to capitalize by wearing them down with skating and outmuscling the opposition by sheer determination, but relying on this system is super demanding and requires a team to execute every detail very well in order for that to happen. Its no wonder our guys are gassed and exhausted. We saw so many mental errors, this system is not sustainable, the team needs to learn to play with the puck and more skill.

I would love to add Reinhart...of course logistics and context matter. Regardless, the Canucks need to start sustaining better production that isn't solely reliant of getting chances off rushes. Well structured teams will shut them down easily.

We need a little more Sedinery is what youre saying?

I bet Sam grew up watching the Sedins... lets do it! haha

It would be nice if Mr. Sutter would come back for cheap. He's been sneaky good for the team the last year or two but was just making a bit too much.

Sutter on the cheap for the 4th line? Yeah sign me up for that. I really like Sutter, he's a gamer and plays the right way. Sutter in the playoffs was impressive.

A lot of our players are much better in the playoffs... to bad getting to the playoffs isn't a sure thing!

  4. Miller - Ep40 - Boeser
    Pearson - Bo - Reinhart
    Podkolzin- x -Hogz
    Motte - x - Highmore

depending how you fill out the bottom centers.. that's a killer forward group! I heard a rumour last year that the Beagle injury might be his career so we could have room for Reinhart and a solid Depth signing (of course with a little extra cap gymnastics).

if were playing with that 9th overall pick, its hard to think we should use it on a forward over trying to kick start the D... but hey... we got Schmidt for a 3rd and Hughes should be better next year. there are other ways to fill out the D. I would love to see this Forward group!

Imagine if Virtanen wasn't being virtanen...

They are not firing Benning because this will add to Aquilini's cost. Terminating Benning's contract will mean paying for what ever is left on his contract.

Aquaman is not firing Benning because he has a good heart. He is not firing Benning because it will cost him money

more money than if fans don't show up at the arena and don't buy merchandise?

that's for both NHL and AHL teams by the way...

  6. Ok, My musings on this:

I want Benning gone, I think this year was the final straw for me. too many mistakes, and the cherry on top is an obvious displeasure coming from the players towards management.

Despite this, I might be able to rationalize that keeping Benning is the honourable thing to do for owner ship. Reality of the situation is that Ownership turned off the taps for this season, which I understand. but turning off the taps might have hurt Bennings ability to properly build off the success of the bubble.

people love to say Benning is an Idiot for keeping Jake over Toffoli. This isn't true. If we let Jake walk, we would have had to still shed cap for toffoli to be signed. its obvious that ownership did not give the green light for a buyout. Yes Benning's spending put us in this  position in the first place, but those signings also might have been pushed for by ownership.

look at all the reports about ownership lately... they are looking for guidance, they are realizing they are going in the wrong direction.. Maybe... JUST MAYBE keeping Benning is ownership admitting they have not given Jim the resources or freedom to run the team his own way. think about it, there is a huge rift between the team and fanbase, lots of people are angry and  consumer confidence is very low right now. If this mess is really ALL Bennings mess, how easy would it be for management to fire him and let him take the blame for everything? It would be pretty damn easy. Ownership knows, if they fire benning and bring in someone with a decent resume fans will be happy enough to come back to rogers arena next year, Its a loyal fan base. But this isn't the route they are taking... Francesco and family seem to be very reactionary, the easy thing for them to do right now is fire Benning, but they aren't. This might actually be the start of a change in philosophy.

Maybe... just MAYBE, they are finally realizing they need to hire people and let them do their jobs.

  7. kind of a shallow thing to do... I don't care for Benning but reality is this:

Letting Travis Green and the coaching staff walk will put us further back than firing Benning will push us ahead.

If there is any outrage from the Fan base, if there is any unified message we should be flying from airplanes, it should be that we want Travis Green, Ian Clark and the Coaching staff back.

    Sign them now!

If Myers is exposed he’s gone. Guarantee it. For some I’m sure they would like that but it would be a huge hit to our defence. Careful what you wish for

Just posted this I agree completely. Myers is a good piece, he will be claimed.

my thinking is... if management is serious about going for the cup starting in 2 years, we need to rip the bandaid off and let Seattle take him, create the cap flexibility. on the flip side... if the are going to spend assets to get better for next year and be more "competitive" NEXT year... we can't afford to lose him.

the real question on what to do on the back end is: is there actually a real plan and are they going to stick to their guns?

  9. 1 hour ago, BCNate said:

Pearson, Sutter and Hamonic won't need protection and can't be taken as they are UFA's.  I assume we will protect Lind over Virtanen, who I expect Seattle will take.

I don't think we need to protect Lind? I know the fan base is crying for the team to call the likes of Lind and Gadjovich up to the NHL and "play the kids" if this is a lost season, but maybe... just maybe... management is thinking ahead an not allowing them to play the needed games to be exposed. nothing wrong with over ripening in the AHL During a throw away season.

from what I am understanding... there are literally no big pieces we can lose from this expansion draft. we're actually in a position to poach a young Dman or forward another team won't want to lose for nothing.

Ive protected  Boeser, Bo, Miller, Virtanen (he still has trade value and potential, it would be stupid to expose him.), Motte, Pettersson. Leaves room for one more... id assume gaudette but really... if we can trade for an asset a team doesn't want to lose and its more valuable than gaudette that would be ideal. I don't see long term potential in gaudette, not on a Stanley cup winning team at least.

    back end is even easier.

Schmidt and Olli, that's all they NEED to protect. if they can get Hamonic signed to a deal that works out that I think that would be good going forward.

    goalie... Demko DUHH

out of the exposed players. if I am Seattle, I am seriously thinking of taking Myers. I know the fan base loves to rip into him but he is a very serviceable NHL D-man. do I like his cap hit? not really, but for an expansion team, I don't think that's an issue. Seattle won't be like Vegas they will not make it to the Stanley cup final in the first year. teams around the league will have learned. instead of teams allowing Seattle to bend them over a barrel like they did with Vegas, I think they will be smarter and trade with each other.

Canucks losing Myers will be a hit don't get me wrong, I really like Myers. but if our window for true Stanley cup contention is in 2 years, Myers will be 33 @ 6 million, not exactly a Value contract. I have full confidence Olli to fill the space Myers currently occupies in 2 years time.

this year has sucked, the play getting better is welcome but I don't know if its enough to make the playoffs (hoping to be wrong). if we truly want to compete in 2 years time, this is a perfect year to take that step back and get a higher draft pick, that could potentially big a big contributing factor going forward on a ELC.

    My 2 cents....

Beagle passes the eye test for me. It’s the way he’s used that bring down his metrics imo. He’s always on the defensive side of the ice and it’s the defensive structure we use when the other team has the offensive momentum. I don’t know what it’s called but our team collapses and we don’t chase the puck. We wait for a mistake while maintaining defensive positioning. It’s why he and the team blocks a lot of shots. You put your comparable players in beagles skates with the our team and the way it is coached and they would have similar metrics

PFFFFT no way, didn't you see what op wrote? he spent 6 hours looking for those stats... HE CANNOT BE WRONG!

kidding aside, you're actually the one who is right. Beagle Is a Stanley cup winner and does what his coaches ask. Stats only mean something if you know the context, something people miss. way too many variables in hockey to look at stats and say "this is the definitive answer". Advances stats are useful, but they need to be understood within a balance.

Edler is fine (even though everyone hated him for some reason a couple seasons ago)
    Beagle is fine

I was looking at Edler's stats and noticed his raw stats were very good. so i decided i would compare him with other veterans over the age of 33 along with beagle and LE. Edlers stats were so impressive i decided to compare him with the entire league.

    The Good: Alex Edler

Edler was 1st among the defenceman over the age 33 with 1.441 ESP/60 First in in PPP/60 with 5.967, 1st in blocked shots, 5th in hits, 6th in SH TOI and 10th in PP TOI and 1st in PIM

Ranking against the entire league with at least a minute of PP TOI he was 10th in the league for PPP/60 (quinn Hughes was 12th and schmidt was 5th) and for players that played over 14 minutes a game he was 13th in ESP/60 (quinn hughes was 16th schmidt was 31st) 3rd in BS, 39th in hits and third in minor PIM. I Wonder if he's working on his his zone exit's this offseason  and not being such a dirty player lol.

    The Bad. Jay Beagle

i decided to compare Beagle with the other 4th liner Veterans brad richardson and nate thompson.

his puck possesion metrics are terrible, but its the way hes utilized and not only because of his puck prowess. .of the 4th liners he is the worst of the bunch offensively and defensively, who both signed for less than a million this year. his point totals are slipping every year and he is far from his selke nominated 2016-2017 season. on top of that his PIM went up 150% when eveyrone else on the teams went down, thats another sign the game may be getting away from him.I wished he would retire because there were much better options in free agency. 2 more year's

    The Ugly: Loui erikkson

ranks 34th out of the 40 veteran forwards in ESP/60 once you factor out empty net points. without empty net points he is the lowest scoring winger who played over 22 games. he has the third lowest blocked shots and the lowest in hits if you factor in games played. the only positive is his shorthanded time is ranked third among the 40. with schaller gone i sure hope louie eriksson doesn't makes the team because of his usefullness while shorthanded. Hoglander anyone?

Between Schmidt, Hughes, Edler and Myers we will have some awesome options on the powerplay and Edler and Schmidt will be great on the PK. Maybe Edler can teach LE and Beagle how turn around thier game

Beagle is fine. cherry picking stats isn't worthy of a whole thread...

But he also knew that if the going got tough, he didn't have to "watch" his back...that Gino would.  This was initiated BY Bure ... Gino worked at making sure he didn't have to take dirty hits that put his focus on retaliating rather than scoring.  Obviously, it still happened on occasion as Bure was a guy that others team had to focus on.  I loved that Bure did this, but it's a dangerous game to play.  I'm glad he had Gino there to take the brunt of it....and he did.  Wish there was more of that these days...Petey might not have had to endure some of the crap he's already contended with.  Quinn too.  Every team needs a Gino...and he wasn't just "a goon".  He showed a little finesse at times, even if it came with help from others.

There's a story about a team (forget which one) going to Gino during a game and telling him to lay off (as he'd been focused on targeting their scorer and was running guys).  The reason?  They said if he kept it up they were coming for Bure.  So he was the messenger that they delivered that message to and, by way of that, had Bure's fate in his hands.  He garnered that attention and it obviously was getting to a team enough that they made it an issue.

Just how it worked back then.

Actually that hit happened because Bure was being worked over and he got fed up.  I wouldn't say it was initiated by Bure, he wouldn't have done that under normal circumstances.

  14. I stepped out of the thread a little while ago because you guys are crazy, checked back... youre all still crazy!

pretty funny how logic goes out the window when people are arguing from a biased point of view.

Anyone arguing the Orcas relevance to BC and the Coast is straight up bananas. Orcas are from all over the world sure, doesn't mean we can love the animal and relate to it. They are the Apex predator of the entire ocean, nothing can compete with them, not even great whites... that's a pretty cool symbol. those are the facts... but keep arguing

    Haha, basically.

But the thing that bothers me most is that people always have to treat it like it's a competition. In one way or another, can't we just all agree that they're all good logos in their own right? You don't have to like it, but I don't get people like @Tiger-Heartedwho spend years on end bashing something because it's not their favourite. It's like people whose frontal cortices don't develop enough past a certain age, and everytime they don't get something they want, they throw a hussy fit.

Whatever. Not the end of the world, but it's unfortunate that there are people who act like this. We're tribal as a species, so in a way I understand - but over a damn logo? Come on...

That guy... I’ve never seen him comment on an actual Canucks topic, just jersey topics.

I think people like hating the orca more than they actually hate it.

Seriously, what's actually so horrible about it?

Its not their top choice so they must hate it. just like how ive kind of developed a dislike for the skate logo because of people hating on the Orca. I like the Orca best, but I grew up with the Skate jersey, think its nostalgic and fun... but people crapping on the orca in favour of the skate pushes me in the other direction.

its like youre not allowed to like two things, you can't like the skate or you hate the orca, and other way around. which is dumb. I said "I like the skate" on twitter and someone responded "yeah, they have to kill the whale!" and I was forced into a stupid conversation where I had to say that I actually liked the Orca better, I just like the skate as well. I admit I am guilty of crapping on the skate to justify the Orca, which was wrong. but I do like it for nostalgic reasons.

objectively, if people looked at the Orca understanding it represents Vancouver AND is in the shape of a C to honour the Canucks name, MOST people would be like ok cool got it. buuuuuuut, we've had other logos before it and people get all emotional about it and since its not their jersey... they must hate! bunch of lemmings.

but hey, that's Vancouver in a nutshell eh? trendy, hipster... its not cool to like the current thing. I HATE THE CORPORATE ORCA! **sent from an iPhone while sipping starbucks/Tim Hortons coffee**. that or people are like 60-70+ yrs old and hate change because it means they aren't are young as they used to be and not a relevant as they remembered! no naming names.. .
