  1. Strongly disagree. Nonis left us the Sedins and Kesler just entering their prime,. GIllis left us with one of the worst defensemen in the NHL making 5 million with a NTC, along with eating cap-hit for a player who isn't even on the team. Gillis did an absolutely terrible job and it's going take a long time to undo the long-term damage he caused for this franchise.

You do realize that Burke drafted the Sedins and Kesler right? Oh by the way, "one of the worst defensemen in the NHL" was drafted by Nonis

  2. TB's coach Jon Cooper only coached in the AHL for 2 years, and never coached with an NHL team so I thinks its more the fact that a good coach can win at any level no matter the experience they have. Desjardins seems similar to Trotz (but a more up-tempo style), in the way that he finds his players strengths and goes from there. A lot of his former and present players have come out to say how great of a coach he is. The only bad thing I've heard of him is that he doesn't like talking to media. He would also have Gulutzan, who he was an assistant coach for in Dallas, to lean on.

Eakins is a hot-head, he's too busy worrying about his hair and making sure he is eating all organic rather than coaching his team.

In Vancouver, he can run, but he can't hide.

  3.   190 lbs for a kid who will end up being 6'0 if not already is not alot of weight for a professional athlete man.

I was an amateur athlete and played at 195 and was very lean...its not a big deal..in fact it will make him better - faster and better able to handle hits.

then again I can tell from most of your commentary you have never actually played a sport at any sort of competitive level

no need to be an ass

  4. why would we pass on Draisatl? I know he's slow, but the Sedins are slow and they still put out a point per game plus he would be a nice player complementary player on a line with Shrinkuak and Virtanen (if we get the 10th overall pick for Ana)

the only center we are looking for right now should be a 1c. I don't see Draisaitl being the 1c we're needing. And he doesn't seem to fit Benning's vision. He's not fast but he's not physical either. He has the biggest chance to bust out of the top 5 IMO

  5. ??? - McDavid - Jensen

    Shinkaruk - Horvat - Kassian

    Higgins - Gaunce - Matthias

    ??? - ??? - ???

    Hamhuis - Ekblad

    Pouliot - Cederholm

    Corrado - Garrison/Bieksa

Got some size, not much speed besides the 1st line, pretty good skill, solid depth, defense that other teams will envy

    I don't know who's left D and right D so don't crucify me

  6. You can't? You can't have an opinion?

    1. I'm sure 80 point 1st liners are a good fit on any team.

    2. Fair, he had growing up to do, so did Kane, so did Richards & Carter. Among others. Not enough of an issue to solely move a young kid like that on IMO.

    3. Disagree, he was getting better as a whole. He was poised to take another step forward IMO. (And he did)

    4. They didn't have to trade anyone, they could have kept all of them and Seguin.

The deal was fine, they just didn't trade him at the right time IMO, should have waited a bit longer, could have got more, but they still got a pretty good return so it is what it is. Both sides ended up with positives from the deal.

Seguin was not an 80 point 1st liner with boston. They were not going demote any of their guys for him

  7. Injuries. Shoulder and concussion? But Ehlers being tossed around like a ragdoll doesn't lead me to believe that he'll be impervious.

Virtanen had 3 fewer points than Ritchie this past season and was the best Canadian U18 player despite a shoulder ailment. He's still ranked fairly high because of his elite speed and shot. He's also quite a bit younger. The shoulder injury will be a total non-factor.

For all this 'low hockey IQ' talk, the Red Line Report had that ranked B-. Sounds irrelevant to me. Size, speed and shot are way more important factors anyway.

so it would be fair to say Ritchie put up 74 points while fighting through a concussion and a shoulder injury?

  8. Tank on purpose?

    Tank for McDavid?

Try to win games with 18 year olds?

Go cheer for the Oilers. They've already been tanking for years. They lose all the time and pick young guys.

Vancouver would start WWIII if the Canucks did that.

They've never had the chance to take someone like McDavid. Also, they had no veterans and a bad system. Their young guys ran around trying to figure things out on their own. Mcdavid is a special player and we have veterans like the Sedins, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Higgins to mentor
