I like this aspect of it. Not sure how much I've seen this before, but the kid wants to be successful and wants the Canucks to guide him on how to do that. I think the Q will be better, more playing time.

Feel like we could've moved down to get him. But I'm sure with no 3rd or 4th round picks, this was the main guy that the Canucks wanted.

Rangers are doing something more for sure. They're clearing out cap today, first with DeAngelo buyout, then with this (saving around 7M I believe).
I'm guessing an Eichel deal is happening soon.- 2

I've been saying this for awhile. This is the year where teams really can miss hard, and later picks can see players turn into Stars. Go for the less risky option and grab Reinhart!

Expensive price to pay for Ristolainen. But may be the draft to do it, as each prospect is still very unkown...
I'd give them the 9th for Reinhart -

I'm guessing it didn't happen yet because of the expansion draft. Why buyout someone like Virtanen or Holtby, if there is a chance that Seattle would take them?

I think the knock on Sillinger is his skating, an unorthodox style. Yes? Horvat wasn't a great skater either when he was drafted, but he worked on that. Same could happen with Sillinger. I've read he's a smart player, who's deceptive, has a good shot. He already has good size. I would be a bit surprised getting him at #9, but I wouldn't be upset. Canucks need a Top 6C prospect.
Bo is one of the very few players that actually turned skating from one of his weaknesses to strengths. IMO, if you're picking a player in the 1st round, and his biggest weakness is skating, then you pass on him. Take that risk in the later rounds. 1st round picks should be all about skill and smarts.
It may not be the biggest guy (Kane, Caufield), or with the best hands initially, but it's rare to have a player who's a weak skater turn into anything great.
Look at Gadjovich now. The guy probably could be in the NHL already on a consistent basis if he could actually move out there.- 3

Honestly, the top 9 seems great, and we should expect a reach or 2 in there as well.
Benning may be targeting a specific guy tho, and I could see him trading it at the draft if that guy is taken. This year seems like the year that any of the top 10 could easily be busts simply because we're mainly going off of 2 years ago. I could see us going #9 for Reinhart if someone like Clarke is gone- 1

2nd in the league last year in blocks, and 10th in hits, and only averaged 19:38 a game.
It would take some things to happen (Holtby selection/trade, Virtanen Buyout), but I think we could manage it. -

Cal Foote is a crazy name. Wish Canucks could've got a deal done to take him, and expose Juolevi.

Don't know how Seattle doesn't take Cal Foote from TBL...

I really like the pickup.
Feel bad for Seattle though... they're losing players they'd likely have selected left, right, and center. Vegas taken advantage of their exemption and trading to get better players than anyone that's going to be available to Seattle- 3

I admire the Nashville and Philly GMs getting this done. Philly realized they'd be losing Patrick for free, so instead of just selling him for picks, they package him for a better D-man in Ellis. Nashville then swaps Patrick for someone they don't need to protect and gain a top prospect in the process, just because they utilized Vegas' advantage in the expansion.
Ellis for Myers + Glass is a great trade for NashvilleMyers + Patrick for Ellis is a great trade of Philly

So who plays back up for us? Matt Dunnigan? Carl Valentine?
Because Dipietro isn’t ready to be a back up at the NHL level just yet.
We got free agency to find someone

Makes absolutely no sense for Vegas to not have a player selected. Now they're picking up solid players with no threat of them leaving.
This also leaves the door open for NYR to sign Goodrow I guess -

I'd give up a pick or 2 for Seattle to take Holtby. If he plays for them, it's free points for us.

They're opening up room to take on someone for sure. Apparently they got about 20M in spending money now, and they're team doesn't look much different than before...

Seems like Mark Stowe doing this in an attempt to get Edler more money. Did he call Donnie and Dhali just to tell them that Edler is moving on? Seems like a weird thing for an agent to do...

{Discussion} Canucks Trades the last 3 years and next year

OP has a point. Benning boasts about his terrific drafting, but he hasn't acquired a 2nd round pick in ages (if ever?), and moved out more picks then I can comprehend. I'm guessing there is pressure from ownership to make the playoffs again, and I'm guessing management sees our window to win within the next 2-4 years, so prospects aren't valuable during that time?
On the plus side, this last trade we lost a 2nd round pick for players we will actually keep for more then 2 months! Hey-o!
