  1. While I liked the manga better, I'll always remember the anime for this one scene.

That scene is freaking hilarious. It made me not sure if the show takes itself too seriously, or if it doesn't take itself seriously enough.

I slightly prefer the anime just because of the soundtrack, but to each his own I guess.

  2. This world is rotten.

Japan has become a nation overrun with crime. Amoral people lead lives of evil. The good cower behind the law, but the law cannot stop everyone. Heinous criminals guilty of horrible acts of evil walk free every day.

Enter Light Yagami, a bored young genius sick of all the crime and corruption, however he lacks the ability to make a difference. All of that changes when he discovers a notebook with the power to kill anyone who's name is written in it.

    A Death Note.

The police soon realize that criminals are dropping dead at an alarming rate. The general public name the serial killer "Kira". The police, noticing the alarming amount of support for a serial killer, call on the assistance of the world's greatest detective, known only by the alias "L", to catch Kira. L vows that he will discover the identity of Kira and sentence him to death, with help also from his assistant Watari.

But suddenly Near, L's most promising student, contacts L, eager to help L in any way he can so he can prove himself. He informs L that Mello, L's second best student, has become the leader of the Mafia. Matt, L's 3rd best student, has gone looking for Mello, seeking to join up with him.

Another person joins in. It is Naomi Misora, an ex-FBI agent whose innocent fiance was murdered by Kira. She is out for vengance, and will use any and all means to bring Kira to justice.

And so the stage is set. L vs Kira, the battle of the century.

    And you get to participate.

    This is Mafia: The Game.

    Intro:

Mafia is a game of strategy, trust, intuition, risk, and luck.

It is a game between two factions battling to the death for victory. Everyone is either a Townsperson or a Mafia. The Mafia know each other's identities, and work together in a group. Once a night, they select a Townsperson to kill. The Townspeople do not know each other's identities, but must debate during the day who might be the Mafia among them, and then vote for someone to lynch. They must root out the Mafia through any information they can gather. There are often special roles that can assist the Townspeople, such as a Sheriff, a Doctor, etc. The winning group is the group left standing when all other members of the opposition have been eliminated.

    History on CDC

Krazz introduced the game of Mafia on White Noise way back in 2008. Games were run in sequence for quite some time, during the initial heyday of Mafia on CDC. But eventually the games died off as interest waned. Fortunately, over time, Krazz and others (notably T-rex930) have re-booted Mafia several times, allowing players old and new alike to experience the game again and again.

    Common Roles
these roles may or may not appear in this game

    Sheriff
The Sheriff is a Townsperson who can investigate one player per round. He will send a PM to the GM with one name; the GM will then inform the Sheriff if that player is Townsperson or Mafia.

    - Doctor
The Doctor is a Townsperson who can choose one player to "protect" during each night. If the Mafia try to kill that player, their kill will not go through he or she will be saved by the Doctor. The Doctor may only self-save himself twice per game. The Doctor's save also only applies to one kill attempt per target per round - if, for example, both the Mafia and Serial Killer target the Doctor-protected player, the first attempt will be "saved" but the second will successfully eliminate the targeted player.

    - Vigilante
The Vigilante is a Townsperson who can kill one person each night. By the end of every round, he must send one name to the GM, and the player he names will be killed prior to the beginning of the next round.

    - Serial Killer
The Serial Killer is unaligned with either major faction. The Serial Killer gets one kill a night. He does not win with either TP or Mafia he only wins if he is the last one standing. Although often a difficult role to win with, it has happened on several occasions.

    - Kingpin
The Kingpin is the head of the Mafia. The exact aspects to this role can vary, but generally the Kingpin will get an investigative power every two rounds he or she will select one name, and the GM will reveal if that name is a Regular Townsperson or a Special Role (i.e. Sheriff, Doctor, Vigilante). The Kingpin will also show up as "Not Mafia" to the Sheriff. However, the Kingpin cannot submit kills on the Mafia's behalf.

    - Twinblade
The Twinblade is a Townsperson who has a one-time ability to kill another player. However, the catch is that the Twinblade will die as well in their attempt.

    - Lackey
The Lackey is a role-blocker who secretly works for the Mafia. The Lackey shows up as Town on investigation and have no contact with the Mafia, but aims to make contact with the Mafia and help them win. The Lackey chooses one player each round to role-block - the chosen target will be blocked from performing his action. This includes blocking the Mafia from making their kill. The Lackey cannot block an action taken against himself. The Lackey cannot block the same player/group (i.e. Mafia group) on two consecutive nightfalls.

    - Watcher
The Watcher is a Town-aligned role who chooses one player to "watch" during the night. If any action is performed on the watched player (i.e. Mafia kill, Vig/SK kill, Sheriff investigation) the Watcher will be informed who targeted the player, although not what action was taken. If multiple actions were performed, the Watcher will only learn of the first one. The Watcher is able to "watch" himself.

    - Paranoid Sheriff
Much like the vanilla Sheriff, the Paranoid Sheriff will be given an investigation per round. Unlike the vanilla Sheriff, the results that return to the Paranoid Sheriff will always be "affiliated to the mafia." Similar to all the Sheriff roles, the Paranoid Sheriff will not be able to investigate himself.

    - Naive Sheriff
Much like the vanilla Sheriff, the Naive Sheriff will be given an investigation per round. Unlike the vanilla Sheriff, the results that return to the Naive Sheriff will always be "not affiliated to the mafia." Similar to all the Sheriff roles, the Naive Sheriff will not be able to investigate himself.

    - Psycho Sheriff
Much like the vanilla Sheriff, the Psycho Sheriff will be given an investigation per round. Unlike the vanilla Sheriff, the results that return to the Psycho Sheriff will always be the opposite of the player's actual affiliation (i.e. mafia will show up as "not affiliated to the mafia", townspeople will show up as "affiliated to the mafia.") Similar to all the Sheriff roles, the Psycho Sheriff will not be able to investigate himself.

    - Med Kit
The Med Kit is an inanimate, moveable object in the game, assigned to a random player at the beginning of the game. This player will be protected from a kill (not a lynch) for that round's nightfall. However, he will need to pass on the Med Kit to someone else in the game afterward. Two names will need to given to the GM by the end of the round - one of those names given will be chosen at random and that player will be given the Kit once the new round begins. The original holder of the Med Kit will not know which player was chosen. The player given the Med Kit will not know who gave it to him. If one of the two players whose names are given is killed off that night, the second player will automatically receive the Med Kit. If both given names are killed, the Med Kit will be taken out of the game. If the holder of the Med Kit is lynched, the Med Kit will be taken out of the game. If the holder of the Med Kit forgets to submit two names, the Med Kit will be re-assigned randomly to another player in the game. The same player cannot receive the Med Kit more than once every three rounds.

    - Cult Leader
The Cult Leader, similar to the Serial Killer, is unaligned with either major faction. However, the Cult Leader has the ability to recruit one player into their Cult each night up until round 3. After Round 3, the Cult Leader can only recruit new players every second night. (i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Round 4, Round 6, etc..) Cultists do not have the ability to kill other players. The Cult wins by becoming the majority faction in the game.

    Rules

    1) Currently, rounds will end at 10:00 PM PT. (Under other GMs, this may change, although it is usually during late evening Pacific Time.) The GM will update as quickly as possible; please be patient if there is a delay. Any actions submitted at or after 10:00PM on a given day will count towards the next day's nightfall.

    2) Once you've been killed off, please do not interfere with the game. Don't post during in-game discussions or loan your opinion to players, not even privately. The only comments you make should be completely off-topic and in no danger of influencing the game in any manner. Please stay honest when conducting private correspondence as well. The use of +1s as a means of agreeing with a game related post beyond the dead is prohibited, as is any other form of inconspicuous mind play.

    3) Please stay active. If you sign up, that means you want to play. If you do not vote at least once every two rounds, you will be killed off for inactivity. If this happens again, you will possibly be suspended for one game. All punishment is at the discretion of the GM.

    4) Screenshots of any communication (especially with the GM) are not allowed. If anyone is caught posting screenshots of any form, whether in PM, email, IM, or anything, that player will be banned from at least one game. It is also against the rules to copy/paste any message from the GM.

    5) If you are lynched, you are allowed last words. But anyone who is killed by any other means does not get last words.

    6) Please avoid editing your posts if at all possible in order to prevent changing or removing information in old posts. Votes in edited posts will not be tallied. (Tip: if you're that concerned about spelling and grammatical errors, proofread before posting.)

    7) The word of the GM is final. If you disagree with something, feel free to say so (privately, with respect to rule 2), but understand that the ongoing game will likely not be altered. And please remain civil if you do have a complaint remember that the GMs are devoting their own time to running this game for you.

    8) Remember, this is just a game! If things start getting heated or personal between players, take a breath and a step back. The GM reserves the right to hand out warnings or further punishment as he or she sees fit. Just have fun, and don't take it too hard if you get duped during the game! (Some players can be quite tricky!)

    9) The GM is not participating in the game. Do not attempt to use him or her as a means to prove your role or intentions. You should be able to do that well enough without any influence from the GM; if you can't, try harder. DO NOT under any circumstances invite another player into your role conversation with the GM.

    10) Do not knowingly work against your own team.

    The kill order is:
    1) Lynch
    2) Serial Killer
    3) Mafia
    3) Vigilante

    Roles/Items in this game:
    1. Sheriff
    2. Serial Killer
    3. Kingpin
    4. Watcher
    5. Lackey
    6. Vigilante
    7. Doctor

    Changes this game:
    1. The Serial Killer's name is changed to Kira.
    2. The Sheriff's name is changed to L
    3. The Kingpin's name is changed to Mello
    4. The Watcher's name is changed to Near
    5. The Lackey's name is changed to Matt
    6. The Vigilante's name is changed to Naomi
    7. The Doctor's name is changed to Watari.
    8. Kira will be given the ability to investigate once every 2 rounds. The only things that will be discovered from these investigations is if someone is L, Near, or Mello.

    9. Depending on the amount of players I may add a no-ability character to Kira's side. If not I will have to think of another small buff for Kira. If I added another player, the "Kira" team would lose as soon as Kira is killed, and the other player would die.
    10. Should L be killed, Near is granted one investigation. This investigation can only reveal if a person is Mello or Kira.
    11. Investigations by L will show if someone is "affiliated with Kira" and if someone is "affiliated with Mello". Mello will obviously show up as "affiliated with Mello", as will Matt. The same will happen upon the death of players, with their specific affiliation being revealed.

    Voting Rules

    1) Please bold your vote in the game thread. E.g. Vote Alchemy Time. If you wish to change your vote, please do something like: Unvote Alchemy Time; Vote Master Radishes. The exact format does not matter so much, as long as it is bolded and clear who you are voting for. Only bolded votes count. Nicknames are acceptable, as long as it is obvious who you are referring to.

    2) Any votes in edited posts will not count. This is to prevent anyone going back later and secretly changing their vote once it has been cast. If you edit your post at all, you must recast your vote.

    3) In the event of a tied vote, there will be no lynching. Instead, the following round, there will be a tiebreaking vote, alongside the regular lynch vote. Therefore, players will vote for two lynchings - one between the tied players, and one for everyone else.

    4) Nightfall will be at 9:30 PM Pacific

  3. Ok so for I've been tossing around an idea in my head, one that I've been really wanting to do for a long time. I'd like to do a "Death Note" themed game.

It would not be very different from a vanilla mafia game, just the names of the specials would be changed to match the theme. I would give the the serial killer a significant buff to give him more of a chance to win. I'm still debating what that would be but I would let you guys have input before I added whatever I come up with.

And no I would not put in the "Death Note" item because nobody liked it.

    Would you guys mind that?

  4. I don't know if it's too late but I'm finished school now and I'd be interested in hosting the next game (I called hosting a game during the summer, I think it was about 2 months ago after the last game I played).

If not then I can host whenever the next available game is, and I'll play in this next game.

  5. Lol at AT taking grad transitions seriously. Most people just fake the volunteer/work experience and the other parts can be done in like a day or 2. They barely look at it and send you on your way

Ehh I was doing that until I found out a few weeks ago that my teachers were taking it seriously. And that I would have to redo everything I did in Planning 10 because my teachers lost everything when they changed the computer system. And that they added a ton of BS extra stuff to do. And I have no class time to complete any of it.

    tl:dr my teachers are dicks.

  6. and Mafia - killing CA despite having his kill on a TP was a great call.. completely threw off my radar. Perfect example of when to pull out of a good scheme - I'm sure there would be internal scrutiny if Mafia declined to kill him that round.

Normally I'd take credit for this but tbh I didn't know who his kill was on.

Add that to the list of "super lucky things AT did this game" lol.

  7. Woo, glad Aladeen finally ended the game. GG TP, you guys were on the wrong end of a few bad breaks.

And thanks to everyone who called me the MVP of this game, though tbh it was mostly luck that allowed me to lead the mafia. Had any one of these things not happened there's a good chance we would've lost/I would have looked like an idiot:

    1. Me hitting a mafia (GFY) in the first round.

    2. Being investigated (mostly clearing the massive suspicion I had brought on myself).

    3. TP misinterpreting CA's last words.

Anyway GG. I don't think I'll sign up for the next couple games, just cause I've realized that my grad transitions are due in half a month and I've barely started.

I would like to reserve a spot to host when my summer break comes though, if the wait list isn't too long.

  8. Sorry guys I have to hear from ilduce before I can lock in my vote if he says nothing I am pretty sure that is an admission of guilt and all true TP should vote for him.

I am feeling more confident with the vote for ilduce at this point as if luci and one other were mafia (she was mafia and there was also a kp) I would suspect some resistance to her vote, but there was none, I think at this point true TP must be voting for ilduce.

My thought now is ilduce is mafia and AT is kp.

So CL if you are truly TP I think we have to vote for ilduce.

AT if you are TP pretty much the same thing.

If someone can point to some damning evidence I towards luci I would be willing to change my vote back to her but as time goes by I am feeling more confident that she is innocent and ilduce not

Alright I'll trust you and my own instincts Aladeen. CA and 112, if this is wrong then I am truly sorry.

    UNVOTE Luciferase

    VOTE il Duce

    locked in

    Luciferase (3) - Alchemy TIme, CanucksLegacy, ilduce39

    ilduce39 (2) - Luciferase, Aladeen

If you guys want to end the round early, just reply and lock in your vote.

  9. Damn can't sleep.... So I will post this

After re reading the entire thread a lot hinges on GFYs final comments. He claimed to be lackey and that BW was the kp

    Only three scenarios here

    1) he was lying about both himself and BW - meaning the lackey and kp were both alive and well after he was hung

Even if this was the case the lackey must be dead otherwise the game would be over, but that would likely mean that he was trying to protect the kp who would most likely be AT.

    2) he was telling the truth about one ( most likely himself being that there was no lackey activity after he died)

    3) he was telling the truth about both himself and BW, in which case there are two mafia left and we are worse off than if there is actually a kp, maybe he was really appealing to sk? Doubtful

Let's start with why I changed my vote to ilduce

    1) in the first round where ppcli was lynched ilduce made a point that he was not involved in the conversation between VIC and the sheriff. This is a strange thing to make a special note of IMO, unless someone was mafia and wanted to point this out for when ppcli did turn up TP.

    2) in the round before last where GD was lynched ilduce was the one who came out and posted that GD was for sure mafia before the bandwagon started, on iPad so can't quote but basically ilduce said "ah crap GD mafia" then lynch ensued.

Rereading the thread it seemed as if the mafia was pushing for GDs lynch quite often so as to get a few of them some TP cred.

How was ilduce so certain of GDs guilt with no sheriff investigation?

Next AT, actually if ilduce is mafia he is quite probably the kp but obviously can only be the kp; this would make sense if GFY was lying about B. But either way he can only be kp and should not be lynched this round. I suppose as an objective view point I could be thrown into this lot as well but hopefully I have come to a point where I have proved myself TP.

Another note about at was that he did change to anon earlier in this game

Next CL, there is a strong chance he is not mafia however at this point anything is possible. He has played a great game if he is mafia but on the other hand both kes and GD were mafia and sorry CL but I do throw you in the lot with these two.

Actually luci is almost nearing the bottom of my suspect list except for inactivity there isn't much to be suspicious about other than ca and 112 thinking she was mafia.

Finally a note about kes' antics and that is that we all should have seen through his claim of TB that can't be killed by the doc by the simple yet now obvious fact there was no doc in this game lol

I tend to agree with you about il Duce, and he is my choice to be lynched next round. Tbh he would probably be my choice to be lynched this round if not for the fact that both CA and 112 recommended Luciferase's lynch. What I'm worried about is that the mafia could tie the lynch, which, unless they mafia kill the person with the med-kit, would mean they win.

  10. Bringing this back up: exactly.

If you can confirm yourself as TP, I don't see why you wouldn't do it. Blind trust at this point is a little too much to ask.

The chances that I or Aladeen is mafia are far lower than the chances that a different, uninvestigated person is.

  11. Look at the last 5 or 6 games where I was probably as active as I have been this round as all of them combined. This is how I've played when school was going on as mafia or TP

I haven't played the last few games so tbh I don't really know. Can anyone confirm?

  12. I don't see how Luci is suspicious now given the 3-way tie between her, CL and GD was pushed rather than the other 2 (one being Mafia).

    Vote CanucksLegacy

For the moment.. even though I've liked the cut of his post's jib lately.

Fair point. Luci is definitely lower on the list now that i think more about it.
