agreed.  lots of blown development of excellent young prospects through-out the league , for many reasons.     This latest move by canucks, looks to be half PR half Benning's ego, as Virtanen was basically gifted a spot before pre season even started.   Sad really.   Grigorenko of Buffalo was screwed this way.

the thinking is that since they're physically ready, they at least are strong/fast enough to create time/space for themselves, and they'll learn on the job how to be effective. It works with some, but not all. Theres a massive jump between chl and nhl no matter how you cut it.

Can't wait to see you hide from this comment in 4 years buddy....I'll save it for you! And I guess I'll remind you then how right I am. Unfortunately for you, you can't seem to accept you're wrong.

23 posts and he's making promises 4 years in the future with a complete stranger - now that's championship level team passion if i've ever seen it. why can't jake play like that

Always positions himself for a shot, plays simple, let teammates do their thing.

No one passes him the puck even though he's open and in the right place.

sounds like he's getting ready to play with any one of our team's third line grinders

    17 year old defencemen?

All but 2 of Swedens 7 defencemen were drafted in 2014 while the other 2 were drafted last year...making them by default 18, 19, 20 years old.

Gabriel Carlsson drafted 2015 by Columbus:  Born Jan 2nd 1997

Jacob Larsson drafted Anaheim 105.  Born April 29 1997

So...who again are these 17 year old defencemen he is going head to head with in this tournament and this game against Sweden?

omg he just says $&!#, then hides behind dumbass straw man arguments like that nylander=the sedins therefore calling him princess = disrespectful pigs

2 goals in an exhibition game.

Your "Pricness" Nylander is only leading the AHL in points. That's pretty damn unheard of from a 19 year old. Say what you want about the 6th pick and what should have been done, but you have to give credit to Nylander.

Don't forget all the hate and "sister" talk the Sedins got when they broke into the league.

Bit ironic isn't it, calling a skilled Swedish player a girl? Show some class you disrespectful pigs, because you're ragging on a player very similar to the greatest two Canucks to ever play the game.

um, the sedins are nothing like nylander, other than they're swedish and skilled.

you are so &^@#ing far off the mark it's not even possible to correct your thinking to in anyway reflect reality.

Nylander has long hair and looks like a pretty girl and has been touted as royalty in Toronto, thats all there is to it. He hasn't earned any respect in the NHL, Is in no way comparable to the Sedins in any way. The only irony here is your display pic is what people would rather have done to themselves than have read your post - every time you post.

He's also playing against other 19 year olds; therefore, he's not farther ahead than everyone else.

See? I can warp facts too!

it's like listening to Hillary Clinton talk about how she was named after a guy who climbed everest - when she was already 6 years old.

Jake Virtannen 2 goals  (Thrusting my hips forward non stop)

    Pricness Nylander nothing

10 mins of non-stop thrust, hows your lower back feeling? i assume since it's non-stop its just one continuous thrusting rather than many successive thrustings.

Writing him off before the puck drops on the tournament....hoping he fails so you can say 'I told you so"...

I gotta say, I'm  not overly impressed with your 'Posting IQ' at the moment. Your inability to differentiate between facts and assumptions is concerning, your timing is way off, and your continued reference to future events, as fact, has delusional flavoring. Maybe you'll 'get it' with time but posting IQ is not easily learned; rather, it's something you are born with.  You either have it or you don't, unfortunately :(

If only artists win Stanley cups then we are in trouble.

I think you need a mix of both though.

    Artists:
    McCann

    Horvat

    Baertshi

    Shinkaruk

    Hutton

    Subban

    Computer Guys:
    Virtanen

    Grenier

    Gaunce

    Boeser

    Jensen

    Pedan

    Tryamkin

The only question is would we be better with Nylander and some like Tuch or Scherbak, or Virtanen and McCann. I think we can all say Virt and McCann we're about as good as we could have come away from that draft. If by some stroke of luck we were able to get Larkin and Sanhiem I would also be pretty stoked, but realistically that was a long shot unless we traded down.

i'd argue that gaunce and boeser 'get it', jensen is closest to virtanen in this sense.

  10. If a company is making an animation, you don't take a guy who knows computers and teach him to be an artist, rather you take an artist and teach him/her the computer as a tool to create art.

In the short term the computer guy will make better and more output, and their own artistic skills will get marginally better, but in the long run the best choice is taking the natural artist with RAW skills and developing it.

it's obvious which way Virtanen is coming from. He already has most of the easily teachable attributes, what he's missing are things that generally can't be taught and come from within.

heres to hoping he 'gets it' one day

    Why question Jake's IQ?

He is still a kid, let's wait for a year or two before judging...

...There have been many Canucks with not the sharpest mind but with skill and power like Bertuzzi, Steamer, Neely and others.

I am hoping for an Owen Nolan style game out of Jake...I don't expect to be too disappointed either!

For Jake's Sake get Baked and chill on the Mensa take...

    Bertuzzi is mensa lol

Ehlers is off to a promising start, but his numbers aren't amazing yet.

ehlers generates chances and then butterfingers like a rookie, still putting up decent numbers and getting chances.

    the puck dies with jake.

Hutton seems like the kind of guy who nobody in the league would ever hate. He's almost always smiling, and he plays pretty clean hockey from what I've seen.

Ironically, Jake is definitely the polar opposite. Every opposing team is gonna have his number by the team he's in his prime haha.

jv is such a mark, and hutton is a beauty,

maybe they're the beauty mark this team needs to define itself in the future.

LOL ok there buddy that some facial expression stuff right there. All I see is that Hutton is a partier and Virtanen doesn't care for that kind of stuff

exactly. button's just dreaming' of juicy sauces and smiling. that's a beauty right there.

then jv is grabbing his balls and comes across like the kid who's mom dressed him - and no smile he's serious about those hand...wait is that a peace sign or a wilted half 'w'? he doesnt know, looks like something from a kanye vid tho

  15. 1 hour ago, Canucks Prophet said:

That sounds like a harsh and unfair judgement of Virtanen to me. Not everyone can be a leader, and I don't see him being one at this point. But to claim that he's "the kid who's mom picked out his clothes for him in high school and never had to set his own alarm clock cause mom woke him and drove him." That's just ridiculous and makes little sense.

He's one of the toughest rookies of this year, made clear by the fact that he was leading all rookies in hits before his injury and call up. He's only get tougher from here on out. I dunno if where he'll go after the tournament, but 'm staying optimistic that he'll be a great player for the Canucks in the long run. Many people here want Lucic on this team, and many were sad to see Kassian go. Many fans still love Bertuzzi. That's enough to tell you the importance of tough and rough wingers.

you can tell everything you need to about his mental game by comparing how jv and hutton react to being out of their comfort zone in that cringeworthy christmas 'rap'

  16. virtanen has the skill set to be a team leader, but he's a follower and not a leader. he needs to be confident and assertive to get the most from his physical skills, instead he comes across as meek.

its maturity. i don't know if he's hungry enough. he seems to say the popular thing and put on the veneer of maturity, but lets face it, kid's been a natural and dominated based on size/speed, and never had to try hard consistently. easy home life, has he ever HAD to earn something the hard way...

some kids don't need those lessons, they're naturally comfortable in their skin and are self-motivators. virtanen is the kid who's mom picked out his clothes for him in high school and never had to set his own alarm clock cause mom woke him and drove him.

self starters use that as a competitive advantage. followers regress to normal by slacking in other areas unless specifically directed.

    See was that so hard.

seems like you're hurting. sometimes thats the hardest time to accept help. know that you're not alone, even strangers have empathy.

except jake virtanen, he pitys the fools

Can you honestly post anything that isnt a troll and is some what knowledgable. Or am i asking for too much from you?

ok, this isn't an attack, please try and understand... and hopefully we can get right back to our elite checking forward prospect:lol:

I get that you're growing and your hormones are raging and you're at an age where you realize the world isn't what you were taught and your obviously analytical mind has turned cynical as you process through your new paradigm as you seek your new truth while clinging to what you can be sure of, but the truth is you come across like a condescending douche and sometimes douches gotta be checked or they get infected.

You probably don't realize it because you're so caught up in the emotion of the moment - and that's not to say you're not smart. It's obvious you 'get it' and are above average intelligence, but its hard reading negativity, put downs, mini-modding, condescension, even your status updates have negative sarcastic connotations. Winning has its place, as does empathy, and we all have to take a step back from time-to-time and evaluate whether we're talking at, down to, or with someone. The more you push negativity on people, the more they tune out.

I'm not a big player around here, i pop in here and there, typically ill-formatted courtesy of my mobile, but you obviously want to be respected here for your opinions - and I do respect your opinions as they're well researched and backed by experience and you have good reasoning and logic. It's just so sad seeing someone like you getting caught up where it doesn't matter and picking fights by doing things like i called you out on.

i look forward to more of your informative posts, and less of what you've been getting into the habit of recently.

looks like vey's down on the 4th D pairing.

virtanen with perlini and point could be filthy.

gauthier with barzal is hilarious - like playing tanner glass with henrik, no amount of slick hands and vision makes up for the lack of speed and stone hands he brings. if jake doesnt crack the top 6, gauthier's out imo. junior game doesn't suit him like open nets don't suit tanner glass.
