Last night I saw the Laffs boys (Matthews, Marner, Andersen, Rielly) at the gelato shop attached to the Fairmont... twice!
Not even joking. They were leaving when I went by on my coffee break, and were going back in for more when I was done my work shift.

I guess without Babcock harping on them, the pregame diet now includes ice cream.

Probably some of that new avacado ice cream, the hipsters have officially taken over

One thing for sure is JB / Brackett see more value in the NCAA/EU route and it's up to players such as Lind, Gadjovich and Woo to chnage their collective minds, I don't see it happening. As we speak Utica is a parking lot for tweeners. The last draft there were 2 players from CHL, the year before there was 1 CHL grad.

Pretty good chance that will change as most mock drafts for 2020 feature the chl heavily. Who knew canadians are actually pretty good at hockey.

I don't think that's how it works for Wahlstom. Just like Veleno didn't get invited for Canada (was on the roster last year and would be an obvious lock right now). Both are playing in the AHL and I believe would have to get "released" by their respective teams.

I actually saw on tsn today that detroit is releasing Veleno to play this year.

  4. Looks like Johan Franzen has come out now saying babcock is “ the worst person he’s ever met”. Supposedly babcock bullied him a lot which was also after franzen suffered multiple concussions. He ended up having a breakdown once on the bench during a game and again later in the dressing rm. Franzen now deals with ptsd from the whole ordeal and is only now just starting to feel normal again. If someone else can post the link to the full story that would be awesome.

also peters was an assistant coach with the wings at the time.... birds of a feather.

I do remember years ago hearing Ferraro that one of the worse thing you can do is do a fly-by without impeding the other player.  No matter how quick you are, you will always be behind the guy going the other way.

If you check the player, regardless of where the puck will be, the guy making that pass won't be part of that play anymore.

No one is expecting him to actually go do 7x7... just he should be aiming to do 7x7.

Instead, we have him playing soft and attempting to dangle with the puck when he should be chipping the puck in and hounding the defenseman to lay a hit or to force a turnover.

Does that help create offense?  Probably no... but it gets into the oppositions' mind.  Throughout the course of the game, maybe a split second of hesitation or poor decision making by the defenseman, perhaps due to having smashed by JV the whole game... that may cause a turnover which may lead to a scoring chance.

I would love to see him smashing guys in the corner regularly but judging how the team plays on a whole I’m going to guess green doesn’t exactly coach an overly physical style of game. Like some other posters have mentioned it seems like jake might be nervous to make a big hit which puts him out of position and he ends up stapled to the bench yet again.

I wonder if Jake realizes he needs to work as hard (if not harder) off the ice, than he does on the ice to be at his best?  I keep hoping with Jake it’s just his commitment to off ice habits that is holding him back.

This could very well be the problem which obviously as fans we can only speculate. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he were traded and really figures it out with another team.

I’d be wondering what Jake’s off ice habits are like?  Is he eating and resting properly, so he’s at his best?  To me Jake can looked tired after 15 seconds on a shift.

Obviously there were concerns about his conditioning when he showed up to camp this year so you could very well have a point. Having said that I haven’t noticed him being short of breath often. If you ask me the team has mis managed him and his development. Blows my mind how he’s never used on any special teams, o.t., shootout etc.

  8. I really wish bert had never said that whole 7x7 comment as it’s totally unrealistic. No player in the league is averaging 7 hits per game and I think the average is somewhere around 2. Jake plays around 10 min per game so 7x7 is ridiculous to expect. While I will admit there’s lots of room for improvement in jakes game it seems he very rarely gets rewarded for strong efforts and quite often gets demoted or benched when he makes a mistake. I’m not sure he’ll ever make it out of greens doghouse.

  9. Over the moon with this signing! I’ve wanted ferland all along but after acquiring miller didn’t think it would happen. Man this team looks scary now, that forward group is heavy and mean looking! Teams better keep their heads up cause this is a whole new canucks they will be facing. People wanted pushback? Well we got some more today, future looks bright! And at 3.5?! What a steal!

  10. Haven’t posted here in quite a while but just want to say I’m fired up about this pick! I wanted Krebs or Newhook going into the draft and gotta be honest, I hadn’t considered pods much because I thought he’d go higher. This really could very well be the steal of the draft, I mean the kid was ranked 3rd overall by most pundits for the majority of the season!

Just watched an interview with pods and even with a translator you can tell he’s got a chip on his shoulder. Picturing him with bo and maybe virtanen will be wrecking teams on the forecheck! Kids a bull!
