Neversummer Posted May 22, 2013 Author Share Posted May 22, 2013 If AV is bought out then they still pay him normally (rather than a lump sum), if he is then picked up by another team to coach then his old salary will be reduced by how much the new one is so it might not really cost much at all. In other words, he wont pull in 2 salaries to coach in the NHL. Edit, I don't think he even has to work as a coach, he just needs to work in some capacity for another team. Typically he can do one of two things.....sit out the remaining term of his contract, in other words not work for anyone and therefore get paid in full....or negotiate a lump sum payout. He it's the latter then he is free to obtain other employment. A coach of AV's stature, with his record, he'll likely be working very soon if he chooses so he'll end up negotiating a lump sum.
