Oh Ryan, My Captain?

November 3, 2009 marked for me, and for many out there, the coming out party of Ryan Kesler. That game against the New York Rangers at GM Place solidifies the letter on this man?s chest.  Question is: Is it the ?right? letter? We?ve been seeing the improvement in Ryan?s game over the last few years, especially [...] Source

Raycroft Looks For Clean Slate

Please join us at Canuckscorner.com and welcome Philip Yoe to our writing team. Time For Some Streaking

The Vancouver Canucks are sitting on the outside looking in when it comes to the top eight in the Western Conference. Sure, it’s not crunch time yet, but the Canucks have to start making up some ground and moving up the standings. Regardless of what happens against Nashville on Tuesday, the Canucks can return home [...] Source

Thursday Thoughts: Erhoff, Hordi, Hank and Shanny

Merry Christian! One could argue that the biggest news of the off-season was the signing of Roberto and Luongo and of course the Sedin twins. And while those players are having good years, there is a newcomer to the team that is making the trade that brought him here highway robbery. Christian Erhoff and Brad Lukowich were [...] Source

Slumping into the break

[You can find the original post with embedded video here] The Olympic break comes at a perfect time for the Canucks, as their play lately has been appalling. A 4-4 record on the first portion of the Road Trip From Hell ™ isn't inherently horrible, but the Canucks, ranked seventh in the league in points, managed to lose to Montreal (21st), Ottawa (10th), Tampa Bay (22nd) and Minnesota (20th), and only the Montreal game was remotely close. Now, anything can happen once teams get on the ice, and

5 Things to Watch

Many people have touted this tournament as the "best of the best." Sweden begins their quest to defend gold. It will be Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby's first foray in the Olympics, carrying on their rivalry from their day jobs. It is, for the first time ever, played on Canadian soil with all-stars from the best professional league in the world. It's hard to find arguments to disagree with all these things, and should the two heavyweights, Russia and Canada, face-off in the final, expect a

SALMON KINGS THIS WEEK FEB 16,2010 "Season's first Gordie Howe Hat Trick"

As hockey afficandos await with eager anticipation the biggest international hockey event since the 1987 Canada Cup, many spent their time watching non-NHL leagues carry on. On Thursday Feb 11 the Alaska Aces arrived in Victoria for a three game in 60 hours series with the home Victoria Salmon Kings. With numbers depleted by injury and AHL callups, the Salmon Kings dressed 9 forwards, and either 4 or 5 defenseman. Taylor Ellington's return from the Moose brought the defense back to 5 healthy bl

Ouch My Head Hurts...

After todays butt whooping our boys got from the Minnesota Wild!! Wow....6-2??? what a disappointing game this afternoon. I'm not liking our guys defence or offense on the road too much. Seems like all the energy and ooomph was left behind at GM place. I know we can't win every game but with the wins we were having made it seem like yeah we could almost get away with winning most of the games! *sigh* I'm hoping after the Olympic break the boys can get their schtuff together and bring us

NBC sucks

Proud Canadians! NBC's coverage of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games was nothing more than awful! I watched CTV/SNP/TSN coverage of the games first and it was amazing. The director of the opening ceremonies used not only the stage, but the entire crowd as part of his huge canvas. The entire building was the show. CTV's coverage was like being in the stands and I really felt like we got to watch it as it was meant to be seen; as a cultural spectacle. NBC's coverage was terribl

Where's RyJo's Mojo?

Where to start with this guy. I for one was his biggest fan to start the season, and still would gladly get a Johnson #10 jersey but the man's stock has been falling and on a bottom six that is under the microscope of every arm chair GM and Canucks fan his play has stood out even more, for the wrong reasons. Granted due to his shot blocking antics he has missed games due to injury, there's something else up with RyJo this season. I think simply put RyJo has lost some of his mojo. I'm not sur

Canucks 3 - 0 Panthers F - Game 59 - 02.11.10

Canucks 3 - 0 Panthers F - Game 59 - 02.11.10 A day prior to the 2010 Olympics ceremonies, The Canucks looked to even their road record against the Florida Panthers. In net for the Canucks was the former Panther himself, Roberto Luongo. On the opposite end, Tomas Vokoun was in net for the Panthers. The Canucks had surrendered the first goal in their last seven games. However the team did a solid defensive job to keep the game scoreless going into the second period. A minute into t

The Sinister Six

So I've made mention in a couple of other blog posts that I was going to be doing up a piece talking about the Canucks bottom six. And why not? There's been a lot of talk lately about certain members of the Canucks third and fourth liners, most of it laced with profanities. Steve Bernier needs to be shipped out of town, Kyle Wellwood should be benched and so on and so forth. While I'm not in disagreement that the bottom six players are bad, I would argue that there are reasons why our bottom

Roadside assistance required

With their loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks dropped to 2 games below .500 on the road. Could some roster changes be far behind? The Canucks found out why the Lightning have gone 10-2-2 since the New Year at home, courtesy of Marty St. Louis and Steven Stamkos Not that anyone is pressing the panic button yet, seeing as how the club is not far removed from a 7 game winning streak. But on their current road trip, the Canucks are 2-3, with one of the wins coming

One More Week...

It will be only another three days before the Olympic torch enters BC Place and it will be exactly a week today when Canada will step onto the ice to show the world what they can really do after a devastating seventh place finish at Turin. The Games coincide with what has been traditionally the toughest stretch in a grueling 82-game NHL season, in which the travel and general wear and tear catch up to players, resulting in injuries to key players. For the 12 teams that will take part, some of th

SALMON KINGS THIS WEEK FEB 8,2010 "Shootout on Blanshard Street"

Victoria hockey fans got full value for their ticket dollars in last week's home series with the Utah Grizzlies. Three consectutive shootouts, stellar goaltending, two penalty "hat tricks", plus moments of joy tinged with some sadness along with a comic moment made for an interesting hockey fan experience. Once the ice had been cleaned after the final shootout, the Salmon Kings over the three games held a slim 12-11 edge along with a 106-100 shot advantage. Even the power plays were close, 4 of

Canucks 3 - 2 Bruins SO/F - Game 57 - 02.06.10 The forth game of the long road trip brought the Canucks to the city of Boston where they faced-off against a struggling Bruins team. After sitting out the previous game, Roberto Luongo stepped in to get the Canucks back on track. On the opposite side, Tuukka Rask was the surprise starter as the B's were hoping that he could put an end to their nine game losing skid. The game started off with a fight between Darcy Hordichuk & Shawn T

Around the League

On some days when I can't up from bed in time, or even when I do it's hard to be totally aware of things at the moment, I like to read the recap about the Canucks' effort. From I've read, it sounds like Roberto Luongo did his thing and bailed a dis-spirited team in front of him with some big, big saves. It wasn't until the shootout when you could literally win the game by skating as leisurely as you'd like (which is why it'll never fly in the playoffs) did the Canucks pull out with a win with no

No points for non-Sens

The Vancouver Canucks' motion for a victory was denied by the hot Ottawa Senators near Parliament Hill on Thursday night. Though they didn't all 'fall flat', the Canucks had to acknowledge the patient game the scalding hot Ottawa Senators are playing (Photo courtesy of Phillip MacCallum/ Getty Images) Thanks in large part to the play of sophomore goaltender Brian Elliot and center Jason Spezza, Ottawa extended it's team record winning streak to 11 games, defeating the Canucks 3-1.
