SALMON KINGS THIS WEEK Mar 1,2010 A Tiger By The Tail

As the Victoria Salmon Kings drove towards the RaboBank Arena, little did they know that over two nights they would be trying to "catch a tiger by the tail." Despite outshooting the Bakersfield Condors on both nights, 43 to 37 and 48 to 27, the Salmon Kings would come up short on the scoreboard. Friday, Feb 26, series opener, the Condors strike ealry, two goals in 39 seconds. Early in the third, the Condors made it 3-0. Two late game power play goals by Wes Goldie (his 36th and 37th) allowed th

Good-bye World thanks for partying, it's been a blast.

Wow...is the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics really over?? It all seems so surreal to now. No more parties, no more world... *sigh* I have to admit that I was not a fan of the Olympics because of the money spent on it with all the cutbacks to our health and education, but decided to suck it up once the games started. I got some negative feedback on how I was against and now I'm for the Olympics. I was never FOR the olympics, but thought why whine & snot n bawl about it. They were he

I Miss The Olympics

I know, only 20 minutes after the closing ceremony, I already miss the Olympics. I miss the good times, the bad times, the action, the suspense, the bond I had with the athletes. Thank you, Thank you IOC for bringing the Olympics to Vancouver. It has been an exciting experience for all and I am terribly sad to see it come to a close so fast. I have found passions with sports I have never thought I would like. I love this city.

Our Canuck Olympians

GOLD. Was there ever any doubt? Of course there was, but as Canadians we could never give up on our dream of being the best team in hockey, once again. And as good as gold was for our country, now its time to put the focus back on this Vancouver Canuck team and find out what potential paybacks the 2010 games might give us. Good and bad. So what do these Olympics do for Vancouver? Well, we now have arguably the best goalie in the world to never win a Stanley Cup. I know, like many of yo

Now That The Dust Has Settled...

First off, a big congratulations to the Big Red Machine, winning gold on home ice. Canada's 14 gold medals, if you haven't heard for the millionth time now, is the most by any country in Winter Olympics history. It's no small feat, and as cliched as it sounds, Canada's success has really united its people from coast to coast. The importance of "Own The Podium" was not lost in the eyes of the government and this is great news for the traditionally under-funded Canadian athletes, with the federal

To The Semis We Go!

What an absolutely dominant performance by Canada last night in a 7-3 rout of Russia, the performance we've been looking for since the opening game against the Norwegians. After a close shave against the Jonas Hiller-led scrappy Swiss squad and a disappointing loss against the rough and tumble Americans, the Canadians responded with two convincing wins. The key last night wasn't so much that Mike Babcock completely outcoached Vyacheslav Bykov, or that Alex Ovechkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Alex Semin, a

Grading the Olympic Canucks

The Olympic tournament has produced some exceptional hockey so far, and many Canucks have been prominently involved. It's worth taking a look at how they've played so far, as that may reflect what we can expect to see from them once the NHL schedule resumes. Without further ado, here's my grades of the Canucks' seven Olympic players: Ryan Kesler (USA): A Kesler's contributions haven't always been noticed, as he only has one goal (an empty-netter agains

The Olympians

The Vancouver Canucks are very well represented in the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver, British Columbia, with 6 players suiting up for their respective countries. Henrik Sedin (Sweden) pins Sami Lepisto (Finland) during the Swedes' 4-2 win in preliminary action Feb.21, 2010 In an Olympic tournament that has had surprisingly few degrees of seperation, "underdog" nations are making headlines. Earlier today, the strong Slovakian team learned this the hard way, with one of the n

Assessment of Team Canada after the Preliminary Round

Team Canada now has a long and tough journey to win Gold, and I really believe the lack of intensity and goaltending has led them to this road. Canada's forecheck has been very disappointing to see because it just lacks the speed and physicality to retrieve pucks and punish the opposing defensemen. Every forward needs to pick up the slack and really play like it's the last game of their careers to see any affect. Another issue with Canada has been goaltending, and it has been widely publiciz

Salmon Kings This Week---AN OLYMPIC INTERLUDE

Like many Canadians, I have been spending so much time Olympic tv watching, looking at related web sites, and newspaper articles, that this blog will be a little different. Last week, the Salmon Kings were in Utah and at the end of the series, which was close, came out with the acquisition of a new forward, Bryan Leitch, who was a BCHL superstar with the Merritt Centennials. Jimmy Sharrow's excellent play was noticed and he has been signed by the AHL San Antonio Rampage. Thus Coach Morrision

What I Like About Team Canada

Ok, so here's a thought, what if Team Canada's men's hockey team doesn't win on Tuesday against Germany? What then? Does that change Canada's already beaten morale on hockey in this country after the US beat us in the juniors? And by change, I mean, does it officially say that Canada is no longer the hockey power of the world? We live in a nation where this is who we are. Where kids are born with hockey skates on their feet. Where we try and figure out which junior team they can pl

The Long Road Ahead

Before we begin anything, first, take a deep breath. Okay, now we're ready to go. The game came as advertised, although for Canadians everywhere (or for those who may cheer for Canada) the loss was devastating. It's not the gold medal game, not yet, but it might as well have been. With an electric, playoff-like atmosphere, the US fended off a multi-faceted Canadian attack, who were unable to beat Vezina favourite Ryan Miller, who stopped 42 shots in the win, while at the other end of the

the "british" in British Columbia's Olympics

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/feb/15/vancouver-winter-olympics-2010 above is the link to unofficial British idiot, Lawrence Donegan, who is now infamously known for his comment that these Olympics in Vancouver are the "worst games ever." Now, let's think about this rationally. There are two things that bother me with this comment and it has nothing to do with the fact that I am Canadian. (or does it...) Firstly, what are the qualifications for someone to actually say that "these

Excuse me Mr. Tencer, who?s whining here?

My friend Richard Loat over at Canucks Hockey Blog tweeted about a blog written by Dan Tencer, an apparently bitter member of the Edmonton media (630 CHED) who I guess is sick of covering the sad sack Oilers. Tencer felt he needed to rip the Canucks and their fans after the Canucks defeated the Oilers [...] Source

Boo to the ?Woo!?

Ok, I know what you’re going to say. People are having fun with it, so what’s the big deal? Now having grown up with the growth of [...] Source
