Honestly mate I’ve been quite supportive of them.

    But.

JT Miller signing is looking rough.

Their evaluation of prioritizing Miller over Horvat seems confusing.

They wanted to avoid having miller on an expiring contract / contract year but we’re okay doing that with Horvat?

IF management has complete control of hockey ops decisions. If they didn’t want Bruce they could have hired a new coach I. The summer. Respectfully thanked Bruce for being a hero but going forward they have a specific style and team vision that doesn’t align with his style of coaching.

    But they didn’t.

now what they are doing I. The media is dejecting him and pouring gasoline on a fire.

Bringing in Kuzmenko, doing the Bieksa honour, and the rest of their moves asides from losing our second round pick have been ok given the circumstance imo.

but I’m worried. What they do with JT miller and Bo are most important rn and they seem to be making a mess of it.

it’s still early but I’m nervous. Especially because JR trade record wasn’t great and they kinda failed in extended pits window.

    so ya I’m just nervous

So right, here. Bo hasn't reached his peak, here. I do really like how JT Miller plays, but I'm not exactly convinced he's THE leader of this team. Bo is a Bergeron type player. They don't grow on trees.

One of the smartest opinions on BB that I've read in a while.  I agree......it's a tricky time for both BB and the Canucks.  If they offer him a 6-8 year deal that's north of $6M/yr, then I'd be shocked and quite frankly disappointed.  He's good and I like him, but he's not a foundational piece right now in my mind.  If he shows up uber fit and with a lot more speed on the ice in October, I will gladly reverse my opinions.....but until we see this, we can't put all the eggs in his basket.

Exactly.... The new brass said they want more foot speed. Petey, Miller, and Bo aren't likely going anywhere, so who does that leave? Either make yourself fit in the long term plans or you'll be on the outside looking in. And I like Brock too. I think he could score 40 in this league!!! What happened to him after that 1st season?! He has one of the best seeing eye writers in the league. Why would you not use it...?

  3. I can see Brock going for a shorter term deal at a lower cap hit than what he has now. Right now his comparable on the team is Conor Garland. To me, the smartest thing is another show me deal. I can't see him getting or doing a long term deal. Maybe 1 or 2 years tops. Maybe 5-5.5 and then getting a money deal on the next go around. They both know that qualifying offer contract will affect his trade ability as well as put more pressure on him to perform. Can't be making that much money and not break 50 points. They'll get it done and we will be pleasantly surprised.

Plus, this year is his contract year. He's playing for money. He should be completely ashamed, but apparently he's not.

    You're right, what a disaster.

    And that's not on Benning.

If he performed anywhere near to his contract year in Boston, no one would be complaining.

    But he didn't.

    He's milking it.

Edit: What this does show is complete lack of professionalism. He should be playing his heart our, period.

    Reminds me of Alexander Semin.

that's somewhat irrelevent though - how we perceive their 'top4' / what it is/was.

If you want to knock off a team like Tampa....you can't look at a 'top 4' as adequate.

Tampa had 6 x top 4 defensemen....(imo - and Cal Foote + depth like Schenn...)

    that's the gold standard.

If you're Vegas and you have cup dreams -  looking at your top 4 and thinking 'that's adequate' - is debatable whether that perspective is good enough/realistic enough.

The one mitigating thing to consider imo - is that they have notorious difficulty finishing in the playoffs - so while they can improve their blueline, they could also probably use another pure goal scorer in that mix.

Or a true number 1 center. Looks like they're going after Eichel, TBH

  6. In all honesty, you look at the Aho thing from last season and it seems like a no brainer to see if he gets one. That could be the money he gets and that's it. It could be possible Petey's agent said this to Benning and that's why Benning came out and said we match any offersheet to Petey. I mean, why else would he not be signed yet. You would think you'd want this done before the start of free agency. Something is holding up the line.

If Seattle wants to do the deal, 2 first round picks, and a 2nd is worth it. Seattle is absolutely horrific on paper, assuming it's between 8.2 - 10 something

More than that, as you said. LOL. Seattle would be stupid to do this deal. Pettersson would also get booed EVERY single time as well.

I don't see Pettersson doing this deal at all. Not worth it.

Seattle still has a full off season to go before icing their team. The expansion draft was nothing. They basically just got 30 assets. We don't even know what it will look like come puck drop.

A dangerous thing to say looking back. What's to stop CGY from offering 12M just to handcuff the Nux

Or Seattle for that matter. TBH, I'm more concerned about that. They left a suspicious amount of cap space for themselves, while not having a 1st line center or there not being a 1st line center in the UFA market. Any RFA who is that kind of top flight center right now could get an offer from Seattle.

Schmidt sounding like a whiny b. One season and wants out already.. this team needs him to be a top 4 for us but chose to bail.

I hate how these guys that demand a trade gets to choose where they want to go. I think anytime a player demand a trade, it should nullify their NTC. It should only be effective if the team is to one trying to trade you against your will. -_-

If after a tough season and not really being able to make many friends on the team, then finding out your one buddy you DID have will not be on the team next season, how would it make you feel? Professional or not, I am not sure how happy I'd be if I were still around next season.

I totally agree with you but we don’t know what EP and QH are going to get for term or dollars yet.

I very much agree here. I'm hoping very much so that at least Petey is signed here in the next few days. What if...let's say Seattle slaps a tough, but doable offer sheet to match.  That could handicap Vancouver SO badly. When Benning said he would match any offer sheet for Petey, it indicated to me that he didn't have any intention to get a deal done prior to free agency. That is a baaaaad move, IMO. I know I'll be breathing a sigh of relief when that deal is done.

Hughes is not worth 7.5 yet and might not be in 5 years time either.  JB has been pretty consistent with earn it contracts for his young core guys and I hope Petey and Hughes fall in line.  It's a team game and young guys can't hamstring the team

Well...one could hope...but that's not what the market says, Stawns
