It doesn't have the forum vibe, but in my experience the reddit /hockey sub is a great news source and I frequently troll it for articles and info to post on CFF

I also kept up with it while CDC was chugging along, because while Vintage was often on top of many things Canucks and NHL there were bits I wouldn't find on CDC

The hockey subreddit is made up of hockey fans from around the league as opposed to those of mostly one team, which makes it a valuable resource as one can keep up on news related to the league as a whole there

One thing I always liked about CDC was how sections of the forum kept up with the league as a whole, the /hockey sub does the same thing but without the Canucks-centric focus or bias, if you simply want to keep up with NHL news as opposed to more of a forum where you can engage it's a good option

    https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/new/

That is what liked best about CDC was it was a very easy access to Canucks news but also usually beat many professional outlets to report NHL news.
I mostly stayed out of live GDT and only jockingly (intended) posted in trade proposal threads because it does take on some of the inherent toxicity of social media, even in it’s juvenile form.

I did like that it was predominantly Canadian which is where Reddit often loses me.
I can certainly understand why the Canucks want to close this board. The unavoidable nature of the political talk is probably something best not to have on their IT, Security and Legal departments lists of concerns.

  2. Really wasn’t looking to debate CFF.
May go back at some point or just creep on there because it is still best site for getting info quickly.
Was wondering if anyone has tried other sites. HF Boards is a nightmare, CanucksCorner looks fairly dead, hockeyforums.net looks long dead.

Interesting. So much for freedom of speech/opinion. Can ask which mod?

fwiw I am enjoying CFF as much as I enjoyed my time here, the majority are from CDC, with a few new members trolling it up lol

I don’t want to start pointing fingers or blaming.
Just was looking for a new home for Canuck talk.

    Did they ban you?

are they not basically the same mods we had here?

Nope, basically got told that wasn’t entitled to formulate an opinion on the current or past play of the team if it was anything other than positive.
‘When a mod tells me that I really didn’t see any reason to stay.

Miss your content and actually would like to take this moment to thank you for all your insight during Covid. Your knowledge was/is very valuable. Nevermind your grasp on hockey.

I don't know any other sites as i am a bit of a luddite. Hope CFF rights the ship and we can all get back to the good community that we enjoyed for years.

Yeah, it is complicated by the fact that I eschew all social media otherwise finding the right community would be probably be easier.
    Appreciate the comment.
Seems ludicrous that you get targeted for constructive criticism but that is the reactive world we live in.

Curtis Douglas or Aku Raty from Arizona are intriguing targets. Douglas being a 6'9 248lb C. Antti Saarela is another from Chicago, the difficult part with the Hawks is they are clearly still in tank mode so whether they would want to add a player like Beauvillier or Myers to possibly hurt their tank is another story

Myers hurting a tank?  He is the tank commander.

  7. I am not sure we can afford another high end top 4 D.
Pettey is going to get paid big time and we will need to pay Hronek.
OEL penalty kicks in 2 years for a couple more years before becoming manageable.
There is a reason we only signed one player for more than 2 years this off-season.
Our D would potentially be one of the better setups in the league with good size and puck moving with him but this is a pipe dream.
Though never say never with trader Jim around.

I’m responding to you because I posted the article.

Like I said, no one forced you to read it so perhaps you should just be upset with yourself for “wasting” your own time and assuming or excepting something else from the article, instead of trolling something others might enjoy.

I mean, what’s the point of your post?

We have a glut of wingers vying for few available positions with the club going into camp. Of course there is going to be coverage of individual players and their status and journey and intention. Some fans want to read up on that. Hell, it’s a Province newspaper article so that might tell you something as well, no?

Now you want to know my point when you first told me I wasn't entitled to posting my opinion.

My opinion as stated in this post and the last one about Podz is what I stated.  Pro athletes don't deserve pats on the head for showing up in shape and that is what all these articles are.  These are just fluff as most everything in the Province is.

Here is the thing, you don't need to read or post to my response just like you are saying to me.

Why post anything if you don't want to see an opinion contrary to yours.

I don't think Studnicka is close to making this team in shape or not.  As you noted there is a glut of wingers of varying quality but almost all better than what Studnicka has shown.  He is a bottom 6 NHL/AHL tweener.

I still don't think an athlete being fit is news especially if they don't ask the simple question of why in your prior years as a professional athlete did you decide to come into camp in something other than optimum shape, but that would be journalism not a silly puff piece.

The articles are posted for the fans who want to hear about specific Nux players.

Do you think for some reason this is just specific to our team and that there isn’t coverage of athletes like this in all forms of sport?!?

There’s no obligation for you to read them. It’s not CDC homework.

Why people have to bitch about the most mundane things tells a lot about who they are as a person. You realize that, right?

    Right back at ya.

  10. How many of these articles do we need a year.

So Brock, Kuz, Podz and Studnicka decided to get in shape this year.  That is a professional athlete's obligation, why is this news.

Well I hope Studnicka has a great year in Abby, glad he decided fitness was important for a professional athlete.  Fit or not he isn't in the top 15 forwards.

Actually I think we do know what happened.  The coach, who struggles with connecting with his players off the ice, tried to use sharing family photos as a way to bridge the gap. Yes, it’s strange to share photos with people we don’t know. But nothing nefarious was going on.
Any player who leaked private meeting information with this Biz idiot should be cut from the club. Don’t want that kind of scum (who’s so closely connected with scum) in the room.

When you’re old like us you should know better than try to use new(ish) technology to bridge the gap with the current generation. It is like politicians rapping.
Nobody enjoys it, it comes off as horribly inauthentic and uncomfortable.

These guys grow up on social media with their phone in their hands all the time. We don’t even understand the language anymore.
Babcock needed to try to be authentic with the players. Show them that he is a guy who grew up with hockey and has lived and breathed it at a high level his entire life. Social media has given a bad impression of him and he can’t win that war in that arena.

I think this was genuinely an attempt to try to show his team that he is not everything he has been made out to be (though he is a lot of it) but was done clumsily.  This is also  blown out of proportion by Bisonette who really is just trying to take a shock jock approach to jacking up clicks and has a personal dislike of Babcock.

  12. Podz reaching his potential is like a lab made winger for EP. If he comes in flying our lines fit together much better. Still don’t know how to fit all the wingers in.
I said going into last year that our best chance for improvement was to see Podz improve.
He had off year and so did we.
We see these stories every year of this player coming in in best shape ever. This year alone we have Podz, Kuz and Brock all coming in in best shape ever.
Professional athletes don’t deserve pats on the head for coming in in shape. That should be the expectation.
How much money did you take before deciding to act like a professional?

These guys have had trainers and dieticians since they were 10 if they didn’t know what to do before now that was arrogance and willful ignorance.

  13. Funny that all the Canadian teams are so worried about keeping American players.
Our Leadership group. C Quinn Hughes, JTM and Demko standing there all on relatively budget deals.
Oh what a world when we are led by a group of Americans and a quickly developing group of Russians and still we, the f’n Vancouver Canucks, are worried about losing our Swedish superstar.

The world is backwards since COVID.

I think a lot of people believe it but also the devils could fall apart and Luke could be traded or something. Never know how things shape up in 4 years. All the Hughes bros are great to watch. Hopefully Quinn is here for the next 10-12 years

Looking at the lineups and prospect pools between us and the Devils, don't think it is the Devils that are more likely to fall apart.

I think Myers will be gone before the start of the season, just from a cap standpoint. He's our easiest guy to trade due to the balance remaining on his deal. All things being equal, I'd keep him till the deadline, but if Pearson is back, we'd need someone else to go down on LTIR before the start of the season to make that work. Now, if it was Myers who went down for 3 - 4 months on LTIR, that could really work out well for us as his value would go up significantly around the deadline.

There are 4 teams in the league that can currently fit him under their cap without looking at LTIR.
We would need to take back a contract or LTIR player from anyone else which would kind of defeat the purpose.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Mik miss preseason and be on IR for day 1 cap purposes. Rare we get of camp without an injury too.
Worst deal PA has made was the one he made to get us under the cap last year. Hopefully better showing this year.  He made a nice recovery though getting a decent asset for Stillman.
