It takes multiple influencers to enact any real kind of threat through this kind of action.

The reality of it is, even if 15k seasons tix holders rate quit, there's 15k socialites chomping at the bit to get their taste.

Live games is all about the social status box ticks, than it is about hockey.. or at least it is for around 18k of 20k seats.

I highly doubt theres even a waitlist.

He didn’t spend shiz last free agency. Not that he wouldn’t off just saying lol. He also said he wouldn’t look into free agency this year. Doesn’t mean he won’t look for depth etc. But sounded like it meant not spending big. Take it for what it’s worth but there’s obviously been a shift in spending

It's because he can't spend. He used up all his cap space signing useless overpaid vets on long term contracts.

Ugh.   Myers is top 30 in scoring for RHDs and probably won't get it but should be our Pratt winner this year.   He's not overpaid and say this did happen who are we going to replace him with?  Barrie?  Lol we'd have the smallest D in the league.   Savard?  Well then everyone can take the Edler hate - that became the Myers hate - and put it on Savard.   We need more of these guys not less (Schmidt/Myers).   It's extremely difficult to get top four RHD's even in free agency.   This contract is fine even with flat cap, we have a lot worse cap issues (LE, Luongo and Bear handcuffing the team all year for one).

Myers has the 15th highest salary among RHD, but only top 30 in scoring? Doesn't look so good.
I never suggested Barrie, we don't need him.
Of course we have cap issues everywhere. Myers is overpaid.

Most of the cap will shed naturally.   We don't have to expose Myers or Schmidt anymore, and it's simply not going to happen (JB exposing these guys).   QHs has been the issue with our D this year i hate to say.   What does -25 pro-rate over an entire season?  And our PP went from 4th to low 20's, it's not like we are scoring our way out of that hole.

If you really want to talk plus minus, sure. He had a very rough start to the season. So did the rest of the team. Look at everyones plus minus. We ONLY had 3 positive players.

    https://www.nhl.com/canucks/stats/regular-season/skaters/pm

    Even Myers is -9.

This is obviously a team issue. Under a new coach and new system, the numbers will improve across the board.

Myers kills penalties.   He's not the best but is the best option for now to anchor the second PP unit which is never given enough time.    Definitely not at all part of the problem, rather part of the solution, just need a few more like him.

Myers running PP2 is a problem. Hopefully Rathbone can take that role. If not, god help us.

Edler is done as a top four guy.   If he comes back the deal won't be big (anything more then 3 is too much..2 is fair with flat cap).

    That we can agree on.

On 5/12/2021 at 6:02 AM, IBatch said:

That's an awfully small L side.   And why is Rathbone ahead of OJ?  He's the only plus D on the team this year - sure he's not as flashy but gets the job done just fine.   Rathbone and QHs... well will for sure need Myers size.   Plus Ekblad, plus Cernak.

Yes QHs is very young and his best seasons are some time away.   This year wasn't good for him, calls it a covid sophomore jinx or something.   Fox in NYR leepfrogged Trouba lol, is a RHD, leads the league in RHD scoring and a plus 19...id consider that trade if it was available.

Change the lines all you want it's not set in stone.

Fox isn't available. He'll be a Norris candidate. Why would NYR consider? And why would we? It's a minor/lateral upgrade in the short term. Stay the course with these young defensemen. There will be growing pains. Blows my mind you want to give up on a player like Hughes this early in his career when he has a slight down season.

Hammer, call me on this if you want, but we are a loosing hockey club with Myers and Holtby on it. Lind has nothing to do with our loosing season.

Seriously, why do you value them so much?

I would be pumped if Seattle took Myers and that steep contract.

I AM 100% down for a SET BACK! Have u not seen Shane Wright, Matthew Savoie, that russian guy, Brad Lambert, Connor bedard, and the other russian guy named Michkov.

Bedard and Michov aren't draft eligible until 2023. That's a long time to tank. We can't be in a constant state of tank.

Fair enough.  I mean you’re more than welcome to post ideas yourself if you’ve got something better.

    Absolutely.

We sign Hughes to a bridge deal this year.
We continue to develop Rathbone and see exactly what we have in him. Let's give him a full season. He's an exciting prospect.

Ideally we would trade a pick to Seattle to take Myers and his contract off our hands, but with the abundance of defenders Seattle has to choose from I highly doubt they'd accept any asset that would be worth it for us. Since we're going to be tight against the cap, I'd target a veteran player such as Kevan Miller. He brings much needed grit to this line up.

    Hughes Miller
    Rathbone Myers
    Juolevi Schmidt

Been doing a lot of evaluating this years draft along side of the teams and their needs

Because of this year being so wide open in terms of draft position and team needs, I have come up with this........

This is done by winning percentage today

    1.Buffalo..................Eklund

    2.Anahiem...............Power

    3.Seattle..................Beniers

    4.NJ.........................Hughes

    5.Columbus.............Johnson

    6.Detroit...................Wallstedt

    7.Ottawa..................Guenther

    8.San Jose...............Clarke

9.Vancouver...........................................McTavish, Svenkov, Lysell, Cuelemens, Sillinger, Coronato, Lucius

So, I think Vancouver has a choice of these players right now. Personally, I think we drop into the 7 or 8 slot, but for now, I am thinking we are in this slot, which is as good as any!

I have 2 questions right now..........................

#1. Who of the players I think we are looking at would you take?

    #2. Would anyone trade Miller to Columbus for their #5...................Miller and a 2021 second for Columbus's 2021 - 5th ?

Trading Miller right now would be a set back. It would leave a pretty big hole in this team and I don't think it's worth it when we already have a high pick.  He's basically been a PPG for us, so we're trading him to get a player that will hopefully if he hits his potential will be a PPG player? Why risk that? Plus he's on a great contract.

I think it's key we finish bottom 5 or lower. Worst we could fall is to 7th where we're still in great position to grab good prospect.

    1. Power
    2. Beniers
    3. Edvinsson
    4. Hughes
    5. Clarke
    6. Guenther
    7. Eklund
    8. Johnson

If we're taking on OEL's salary, I'm giving them Juolevi + Eriksson + Virtanen + 3rd for OEL + Crouse

The deal is awash cap wise, gets us out of that Virtanen contract meanwhile the Coyotes get some new blood that might fit in better with the group they have. He'll have more opportunities and may reach his potential elsewhere. That is, of course, if he stays in the NHL at all after the accusations that have come to light.

If the first trade I proposed doesn't work then you go: Juolevi + Eriksson + Roussel + 2nd for OEL + Hayden

Trade #2 gets the Coyotes some more sandpaper for their bottom six, a solid left-shot defender who would thrive in a new environment with more playing opportunities.

Finally, #3, my favorite is to do nothing at all and wait for one of L. Hughes, Edvinsson, Clarke, Power or even Lambos or Ceulemans to fall into our laps. Once there, we now had another top four defender (preferably Edvinsson or Clarke) to go with Hughes, Schmidt, Myers and Juolevi. Although there's a good chance one of these prospects will need a year or two to marinate, we can take that time and add even more additional young assets.

While I'm here, I should once again re-iterate that I think Jeff Gorton is the best guy to lead this team in a post-Benning, post-Edler era

After Arizona's PR disaster drafting Mitch Miller, I HIGHLY doubt they're going to take a chance on Virtanen regardless of what the outcome of the investigation is.

I think #3 is the best for sure. I also agree with your point on Jeff Gorton. This is probably the most important off season move we could make.

  9. Shea Theodore is a young, number one defenseman on a great deal for the next 4 years. Not only is he having a great season, he'll probably continue this trend and be a Norris candidate very soon.

This type of player is the most coveted in the league. There is zero chance Vegas moves him for Miller.

He’ll start in the AHL but Juolevi’s busting out this year.

When he cracks the NHL roster he’s going to look awesome slinging the puck up to our revamped top 6.

c'mon man this is the tkachuk thread, get out of here with all that positivity

How many times do we have to play Tanev top minutes until we realize he can’t stay healthy?

If Tryamkin is brought back then either Stecher or Tanev are out.

    Edler Myers

    Hughes Tanev

    Benn Tryamkin/Stecher

    Tanev traded:

    Edler Myers

    Hughes Tryamkin

    Benn Stecher

Tanev is the horse we ride until he is physically unable to walk and we have to take him out back of Rogers arena and put him out of his misery with a double barrel shotgun. Until that day though, I'll keep him in.

I would love to sign Ferland, but considering what Nyquist got, it doesn't look like we have any room at all.

Still a top 6 that looks like this....

    Miller Pettersson Boeser

    Ferland Horvat Pearson

Would be a pain in the ass for other teams to go up against.

    Absolutely.

Which makes a 3rd line of Baer, Gaudette and Virtanen - that should be a line that can produce.

  13. The intro is absolutely brutal. Embarrassing to be honest. I attended about 5 games last year with different groups of people and every game we cringed during that intro.

EDIT: While we're at it here, who's brilliant idea was it to enter the ice through the zamboni entrance? What possible benefit does that serve?

Because the net has to be taken off and the camera crew is one the ice, the Canucks are forced to skate an awkward half lap between the centre line and the top of the circles. I know this is a major nit pick, but for some reason it drives me insane.

Not only is QH the most offensively dynamic and gifted Dman on the Canucks as of today, he is possibly the best offensive talent the Canucks have put out on the ice, as an actual Dman, ever.

To read posts where Myers and Edler are placed ahead of QH on such a ‘list’ is why it’s hard to take the forum and it’s posters seriously sometimes.

Respectfully, I fully disagree and won’t be discussing any further how or why QH isn’t considered the best offensive Dman on this team, though I did appreciate your response and understand your perspective.

I’m no QH homer, but I find the idea of ranking his offensive flare behind those other names as a disservice to the reputation of the forum as a serious place to discuss the sport of hockey, but whatever - posters can say what they like and hope they always can and do.

Agreed 100%. I don't know how anyone who watched the 5 games Hughes played last season could say he isn't far and away #1.  It's like watching Petey's first 5 games and then ranking him behind Sutter cause we haven't seen enough of him yet.
