If you read the post you responded to more carefully, you will see that he used the word "could", not "would" or "will", meaning that the possibility exists.

I don't know Russian law, but in this country, a contract you sign when you are 16 or 17 is not likely to be enforceable, because legally you are still a child, who does not have the legal capacity to contract.

And it would not be a complete shock for an 18 or 19 year old to feel differently about things than he did when he was 16 or 17, so the chance exists that he could change his mind.

You could say that about anything then. There is talk he could step in the league right away. There is talk he could play 7 years in the KHL. I'll believe the quote directly from his mouth less than 2 weeks ago.

There has been talk that he could buyout the last year of his deal.

Talk from who? Him? Not that I've seen. Just speculation from hopeful fans. Only thing I've heard from him is that he said he's going to honour his KHL contract.

He is also getting schooled by guys like Datsyuk etc as he plays on the KHL.  Pro level, NHL level coaching which he soaks up like a sponge.

    Very Bo like.

He could be in the hunt for a Calder as early as next year.

Would love to see a line with him, Gaudette and Madden.  That would be a very frustrating line to play against.  Our 3rd line next year???  Why not!

Well he won't be coming over for another 2 years.

Not a problem though, a little more development time couldn't hurt. I want to him to be a top player in the World Juniors this year, then absolutely dominate it the year after that.

  4. This kid sure doesn't lack confidence, looks a bit cocky to be honest. In the best possible way though. I like some personality on the ice.

Hopefully he plays a bigger role on his team next year, really excited for him.

Where would you guys slip in him when ranking our forward prospects?

    Podkolzin
    Hoglander
    MacEwen
    Madden
    Karlsson
    Lind
    Gadjovich

  5. This is the guy who has been pushing strictly for players that have played for a Victoria based team at some point in their careers. The names he constantly mentions are here in my post below from a few months back.

Ah, I've cracked the code. All the players you've mentioned.

Tyler Bozak, played for the Victoria Salsa/Grizzlies
Joe Hicketts, played for the Victoria Royals
Jamie Benn, played for the Victoria Salsa/Grizzlies
Griffen Outhouse, plays for the Victoria Royals
Alex Newhook, plays for the Victoria Grizzlies

So really all you want is for us to go after any players that currently, or have at one point played for a Victoria based hockey team.

So OP, any chance you live in Victoria?

The Canucks are active on the trade market - Zucker, Hoffman, Ristolainen, possibly giving Gardiner a 50M contract.

It really doesn't look like Benning has any interest in taking on bad contracts.  By the sound of it he wants to compete now.

He probably HAS to compete now. I don't think he wants to, but he has to speed things up. I think he's been told (my own speculation) it's playoff, or pack your $&!#. I think this core is still another year or two, piece or two away from really being in the thick of it. I really don't like the idea of handing Gardiner/Myers $50m only because they're the best available at the moment.

Edler, by far, is the best Dman this free agency class after karlsson. Reasonable contract, good term. We aren’t lucky to not have to pursue Gardiner or Myers, which we will definitely have to overpay. With Edler we have stability in the backend. Not saying we are set on D but edler is the foundational piece. Now add more Benning, but don’t overpay!

You have to overpay in free agency. Especially when you finish in the bottom of the league and a player could be fielding offers from several different teams. That's why I want to stay away from Gardiner and Myers. Overpay on the RIGHT players. Not these guys.

I realized that question came across more hostile than I intended. My bad.

I'm aware of the age gap between Dorofeyev and Podkolzin, but the gap in production is much more significant. If Podkolzin's lack of production can be explained, then Dorofeyev's production should be deemed pretty extraordinary.

I'm honestly not sure I could say I would take Podkolzin before Dorofeyev. I haven't seen a significant amount of either player, but signs seem to point to Dorofeyev having the higher ceiling, at least in my eyes.

Would you have taken Jake Wise over Tyler Madden? Looking at stats back then, most would.

I haven't seen much of either Podkolzin or Dorofeyev, much like yourself. This is when I'll trust those who have and not look at numbers.

Yeah there’s some unrealistic proposals going on in here. I’d be happy swapping players as well as swapping the 10th for the 8th, and hopefully a mid round pick.

Is there really a point in moving up 2 selections in the draft? Unless the Canucks are high on someone who unexpectedly drops and a deal can be made on the draft floor, I don't think it's worth moving up.

Wow! Tryamkin is playing for welfare money there. Good gawd 700,000 Geez he should fire Diamond. That's nothing. Boy has to come back to get paid.

Sign him 5 years $3.5m per, more than he'd make in 20 years in the K

I like this, but we are losing Gaudette or Jake in the expansion draft in order to protect Lucic.  Even though the Oilers aren’t getting either of those guys, having Milan will cost us one, so one of their names needs to be added.

That's why I'd rather have Bouchard. No Pulju or 38th.

    Lucic
    Bouchard (Ineligible for expansion draft)

Two things I'll just throw out there that fit team needs (for both teams imo) and address two of JB's biggest concerns:

    1.  Boeser for Dumba.  One for one hockey-trade if you will.  Immediately addresses our RD issues and gives Minny an immediate replacement for Zucker who they are actively shopping as we all know.

    2.  OJ for Tuch.  One for one hockey-trade again.  OJ is somewhat expendable if Dumba is acquired and Tuch fills an immediate top 6 role - gives JB a huge-bodied, young, 20-30 goal scorer on a cost-certain contract for the next 8 years.  Vegas needs cap relief badly and they could use some more depth in their organization on defence.

I think both of the aforementioned trades are very realistic in terms of cost to the franchise vs. incoming value and are in no way one of the typical CDC "let us rip you off just because it's good for us and it works in EA sports bs".

Would hurt to lose OJ and BB but imo this puts us solidly in the mix for a playoff spot next season and beyond and by no means does it gut our franchise of young talent or take on other GM's horrendous mistakes just to get a 'sweetner' thrown in.

Tuch is on a great contract, don't think he's the guy Vegas would be willing to move. If they're looking for cap relief, doesn't make sense to trade one of the best value deals they have going.
