Hopefully what the NYI and CBJ have just done will hit home with fans and especially management. Vancouver needs more SIZE! Regular season play is NOT Stanley CUP play. Regular season stats hopefully give an indication of what a player can do in CUP play but as we have just witnessed, not always. Congrats to Torts who did not get a fair shake in Van. I wanted Trotz when it was maybe a choice between him and Desjardin. I doubt he was interested. Two coaches who are mentally tough. Not saying Green is not as I think he has it in him as well.

Just curious as to why you don't think Torts got a fair shake here.

In this situation? I'm taking Krebs with my eyes closed. He backchecks hard, transitions quickly, and plays a dynamic game. He's impactful in every situation. He also has that Patrick Kane and Tyler Seguin-like commanding strength in his stride that lets him get up to top speed in three pushes. I'd slot him in next year.

Krebs was the only guy I didn't want, but you know a whole crap load more than me when it comes to these guys so now I don't know what to think.

  3. Why is Krebs ranked so high? Genuinely curious.

I haven't seen him live so I'm forced to get a sense of what he's like from what little youtube content I can find.

His skating and hands seem fairly average. I like his vision, he can see the ice well. He has a nice shot and is good at putting himself in the right position in the offensive zone.

Other than that he doesn't blow me away. Anyone have any opinions on this kid?

Hughes looks like the real deal. He just needs to play more and mature. He’s a huge piece we have been missing for years. I’d like to see Hughes on the 1st PP with Elder though and just use 3 forwards.

Oh another thing, Hughes and Stetcher both need to work on their shots in the summer.

Disagree with the 3 forwards on PP1.

I'd just like to see Pettersson and Boeser in their spots on the half boards and Bo/Baer in front of the net/goal line. Hughes on the point. I don't think Hughes is a shoot first player, which is good. He just needs to feed the two shooters.

    actually i beg to differ

lemieux was an ultra elite hockey player

but a traditional hockey player with phenomenal skills

his on ice performance and production are undeniable

but he had less impact on his teammates' development

    gretzky was waif

when he started, he was extremely young, and had an atypical build for a hockey player

hockey people were very skeptical about him, his skating was viewed to be subpar

he was going to get killed in professional hockey

he was the focus of everyone.. he took all the attention and pressure

we saw that his skill level and revolutionary approach to the game

    fully contradicted the pundits

his ability to overcome all critics

emboldened his teammates to such an extent

that they were fully able to develop to their maximum potential

as all could believe that anything was possible

without gretzky that is unlikely to have happened

it became common knowledge that 5 of the top players in the world were on his team

without his presence it is doubtful they would all have developed to the extent they did

he brought magic and a different mindset to his team

that is the possibility the nucks have with ep40

    a player of extraordinary ability

with potential to create enough space to allow brock, hughes, demko, and whoever gets picked this year in the draft

to develop to reach their full potential in a nurturing environment

as he will absorb all the pressure that fans et al bring to young talent

they will simply focus on him .. the rest of the talent can just relax

there is no better development environment then that

people forget/overlook all the flaws that young oiler team had

coffey has serious defensive deficiencies initially

    fuhr was unsteady

    messier was a hot head

kurri was good, but he had zero pressure

gretzky was the focus.. . and he excelled and carried his team

i got to watch it all

and they matured into an amazing team

let's see what potential the nuck young talent might mature into

that is what is exciting about ep40

    edit:

and though i do not wish to veer off into a debate about captaincy

if you have a player who can absorb all the pressure like gretzky did

you simply make him captain to absorb that pressure too

and relieve all teammates of responsibility

and allow them to simply focus on their own development

to me it is a no brainer about ep40, he is the shock absorber

and i have extreme respect for what bo brings

(messier is viewed as the paradigm leader/captain

there is trophy named after him now in the nhl

yet 99 was his captain before being traded)

Great poem. You should move it to another thread.

The lowest year cannot be less than 50% of the highest.   There is also a 35% variability rule where the difference from one year to the next cannot be more than 35% of the 1st year's salary&bonus.

Makes sense.  thought there'd be some sort of clause I just didn't know any specifics. Thanks.

Ya man! I haven't seen Pettersson live yet either so even if Quinn isn't playing Im stoked. Haven't been to a game since the Sedins last against ARI last season. Before that I don't even know, haven't been to too many the last few years.

    Super excited. CGC

Even just watching his shooting in the warm up is worth getting to the game early for.

  8. Shower thought here:

Is it possible to make a contract "expansion proof"?

Let's say the Canucks want to protect Demko and are planning on extending Markstrom after the 2019-2020 season. Is it possible to sign to him a contract that will pay most of his salary the year after the expansion?

For example, the Canucks sign Markstrom to a 2 year, $13m contract. Could they structure it in a way that Markstrom would make $1m in year one, then $12m in year 2? Reason being, if Seattle did want to take him, they'd be essentially paying Markstrom $12m per season.

Obviously these numbers aren't accurate, and I'm not saying this would be a good move. Just wondering if this theory is possible and could work with other players reaching UFA/RFA after next season.

I hear comparisons to the King’S goalie.  What’s his name?  Anyway, i like our kid, but dowonder if short guys can be NHL to notch goalies anymore?

Saros (Nashville) is doing well, it helps when you have a very strong defensive core in front of you. Maybe it's because we're use to seeing 6'6" monsters in net, but I was at the Sharks game that DiPietro played and when he went down there was a LOT of open net up stairs. Shooters are just too good these days. I wish him all the best but he has a bunch of work to do and a long road ahead of him.

Thanks to the OP for putting some information together about Teves.

I remember his existence from Development Camp, but I know nothing about him. After reading a few things (including PITB) it seems that he is an offensive puck-moving D-man. He is on the small side at 6 feet and apparently about 180 lbs (although sources vary). His numbers overall compare favorably with Stecher and Hutton, although his numbers were a lot better last year than this year. Part of that was because Princeton had a very good team last year and a very bad team this year.

The Canucks are not signing him with the idea that he will be a career AHL player. They obviously think he has a chance to be good in the NHL. He is actually a bit like Quinn Hughes in his profile (and he also shoots left).

Obviously he is a longshot but this is Judd Brackett's portfolio and Brackett has a great track record. If Brackett likes him then I am at least curious.

I also remember him from the development camp. I actually thought he looked really good out there, even though he was one of the oldest players in that camp and playing against guys 3-5 years younger than him. Still glad we snagged him.

Trying to be realistic against the tide of homers that thinks he is the second coming of a tall heavy Jesus Christ.  B)

He is an ok 3rd pairing D in the NHL.

Went back and read the few pages since the last time you blessed us all with your presence.

Mostly just users keeping us updated on his playoffs game/series. One post projected him in the top 4. That's about it. Is that what it takes to be compared to Jesus Christ?

Tryamkin would make a half decent 3rd pairing D. Unique with his size and strength but still a 3rd pairing D.

I guess I would be fine with him coming back if he doesn't whine about ice time.

But whether he comes back or not certainly doesn't make this team some kinda powerhouse just because a big russian 3rd pairing D is on the team. Man, some people on here think he is better than he showed lmao.

I see you're back to make your weekly check in to remind everyone how much you don't care if Nikita comes back.

You've made this point several times over the past few months, yet here it is again.

    Same time next week?

What's kind of funny is Goldobin probably isn't good enough defensively to play in the bottom 6. He's also got 6 goals this year (in 50 games), so he's struggling offensively too. How the heck he got an Audi commercial is beyond me lol

Not french enough for Basant Motors.

I wouldn't say he's struggling offensively. He has 19 assists and would be on pace for 41 points in a full season. Not amazing mind you, but by far the best numbers of his career.

Majority of those are playing with Pettersson. I think he could turn Alf into a 10 goal scorer.

Dipietro is wondering if he’s got the size to be an NHL goalie now too.  I think the kid needs to play the next game.  He’s done if he doesn’t get in right away, and gain some confidence.  If he is crappy again, then we know to let him walk.

I don't think it would be fair to him. He's still a teen playing against men. He did what he could with what he had to work with (not much) and got $&!# on. It is what it is. If anything got a taste for what's expected 4-5 years down the road when he should be getting another shot. Let him develop into a man himself. Give him time to work on his reflexes/positioning and time with Clark.

  15. Went to the game last night and gonna echo a few comments in here. He looked tiny. Almost Pang-like. Maybe cause we're used to Nilsson/Markstrom being 6'6", Demko being 6'4". But man, there was a TON of open net. The shooters these days are so good and bigger goalies are becoming the norm, it's hard to imagine this kid being a number 1. Then again, it's looking like Saros could be going against the grain in Nashville, let's hope Mikey can too.
