  1. Turcotte ranked #10 too. Craig was dropping some hot takes on this ranking list
  2. Zegras is considered very feisty for his size. If you look at his stat line you'll see he had 94 pims last year. 25 of which came from a really greasy play where he stuck his knee out on someone (not a huge fan of that)... All in all, I think I would prefer Boldy due to his size and his ability to strip people of the puck but Zegras is way up there for me as well.
  3. I think Broberg and Podkolzin are two of the biggest boom or bust examples. Potential for greatness but also a big chance that they don't reach their full potential. Soderstrom has a lower ceiling than Broberg but I think a much higher floor.
  4. Boldy, Krebs or Zegras for me. I think one of those three guys will be there for us and i would love to see any of them in our top 6. Boldy has great hockey IQ and I think he and Petey would be thinking two steps ahead of the competition on the ice. Excellent playmaker with an awesome shot to go along with it. Krebs has a non stop motor with quick feet and is a top notch passer as well. I feel like I would prefer to see him play with Bo but i think hes the kind of guy you plug into your line up and he gives you 100% every shift. Zegras might be a bit more one dimensional than Boldy but hes quicker and possibly more skilled. Would also be fun to see this guy on our top line.
  5. Loved this, it was like 2 months ago he said the Podkolzin is closer to Kaako than Kaako is to Hughes in the rankings. That aged poorly in a hurry.
  6. I think this is mostly just a difference of opinion about what elite in considered to be, in my mind an elite prospect is a top line player or #1 d man. Again I'm still optimistic for Juolevi moving forward in the Canucks rebuild, he will be a big part of it but I don't consider him a centerpiece.
  7. Didn't think anyone still considered him an elite prospect. Although, I'm still optimistic that he will make the NHL and play in a top 4 role, I just don't think he will live up to the draft position.
  8. Thats fair, he's not a sure fire thing by any means. I think a lot of us on this forum are a bit too high on Hughes, including myself. That being said, I think that he has the potential to run our powerplay better than it has been run in a very long time. I do think the comments about his muffin of a shot are accurate, but Hughes is very good at using his skating to manipulate shot blockers and get shots through traffic. He rarely scores but he puts pucks into high danger areas and guys like Horvat will feast on rebounds and loose pucks around the net. I know this next year he will have plenty of groan worthy turnovers, but i think it will all be part of his learning process. Looking forward to seeing him in a full season of action, and hopefully some more 3 on 3 overtime with Brock and Petey. I forgot this is the Juolevi page... hes a hockey player also.
  9. Your expectations were either way too high for Subban or they're way too low for Hughes.
  10. https://canucksarmy.com/2019/05/17/2019-nhl-draft-consolidated-industry-rankings-for-may-2019/ I find these lists helpful to see some trends. This one isn't perfect as a lot of the writers and rankers still have to release their final lists but I still like to look at the consolidated lists.
  11. anyone know what league Seider is playing in next year? No offense to the DEL but if we draft him it would be nice to be able to see some highlights or something, hard to find much from his past year.
  12. Dach is a player i like quite a bit but haven't ever considered him at 10. He seems like a pure center and i haven't heard of him playing wing at all, not that i have followed his career for a long time admittedly. If he drops to us i think hes hard to pass on, although maybe someone lower than us would trade a 2nd rounder to move up for him.
  13. I never said our defense is fine, I said the value in this draft is at forward. If we had 2 first round picks i would be happy to take one of the defence available. But we don't have two picks in the first round, we have one. That pick should be used on a forward.
  14. 2 of our last 3 first round picks have been defensemen. Our top 2 picks last year were both defensmen. You cant look at our roster and tell me we don't have needs on the wing, The value in this draft is at forward, teams are going to reach on defencemen in this draft due to the limited amount of quality. I just hope we don't end up being one of those teams.
  15. Really starting to get nervous about all the Subban talk. If we moved our top pick for him this year i would be pretty upset.
  16. https://www.eprinkside.com/2019/5/6/blog-broberg-or-soderstrom This article was kinda the last straw for me on Broberg. If our guys draft him I'll hop on board because i have faith in our Swedish scouting. However the following excerpt sounds very concerning. "Broberg doesn’t, by any means, have terrible hockey sense, but it is a weakness in his offensive game. He can make the same mistake several situations in a row and will often try to do the same thing with the puck repeatedly, even when it is obvious that his opponents have figured out what he wants to do and what he is trying to accomplish. He often tries to move the puck on the outside to beat his opponent with his high top speed before heading towards the net, when teams learn his patterns and adjusts accordingly, he doesn’t adapt to it and instead goes straight into the defenders before losing the puck, over and over again. It’s one of the reasons he hasn’t been close to as dominant against men as he is when he is playing against U18- or U20-competition. Even at U20-level there is a significant difference on how often his rushes succeeds compared to U18, because of how much faster his opponents adjusts and prepares for the way he rushes the puck. If he would learn from past situations, adapt and look for other solutions he would become a much more efficient, and less predictable, offensive catalyst when he moves the puck. Defensively Broberg has shown good vision without the puck and can make smart reads to intercept passes but he doesn’t have the same defensive awareness as Söderström does and can be taken by surprise because he isn’t fully aware what is happening around him, which is one of the reasons his positioning while defending isn’t always on point."
  17. In reference to Pettersson playing his draft eligible year in the Allsvenskan. I think its definitely a credit to Soderstrom that he was able to play in the SHL as a teenager, especially as a defencemen.
  18. Haven't seen the kind of scoring that Marchand is capable of. But I like the idea of a Zegras or a Boldy on the left side of our top line, pair skill with skill and enjoy the ride.
  19. I really liked the way that Boldy looked at the U18, His hockey IQ and play making are both at a very high level and I would love to see him on the left side with Petey and Boeser. For what its worth this is what my list looks like right now. 1. Hughes 2. Kakko 3. Byram 4. Turcotte 5. Dach 6. Krebs 7. Boldy 8. Cozens 9. Podkolzin 10. Caufield 11. Zegras 12. Newhook 13. Soderstrom 14. Kaliyev 15. Seider 16. Lavoie 17. Harley 18. Brink 19. York 20. Broberg
  20. That was my thinking when i was doing it. Some prospects have boom or bust potential (Broberg, Podkolzin). From what i have read and watched it looks like Turcotte, Cozens and Soderstrom are supposed to be players with lower bust potential. Soderstrom apparently also with a lower ceiling than some others but hes starting to grow on me. Looking at Zegras a more today I think Gagner is an unfair comparison as Zegras plays with a little bit of grit to his game and Gagner is as soft as baby crap.
  21. Cozens- Kyle Turris Krebs-Tyson Jost Podk- Raffi Torres Zegras- Sam Gagner Broberg- Jake Virtanen as a defensemen Caufield-Nathan Gerbe with a better shot Soderstrom- Want to say Troy Stecher but I love the guy Boldy- Bobby Ryan without the Ducks Turcotte- Nazem Kadri No Clue, just tried to have fun with it
  22. https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2017/5/28/15706426/elias-pettersson-and-the-myth-of-the-two-horse-race Feel like i want to post this each year. Not sure who this Leaf blogger is but he nailed it a month before the 2017 draft. Happy that we ended up being the ones to take the chance on this lanky superstar.
