Reminded tonight of 2002 and 2010. Canada ended up with Belarus and Slovakia at the Olympic Winter Games in the men’s hockey semi-final. A gift that helped propel them to the big dance. Who knows what the Gold medal final would have been without the Belarusian/Slovak upsets: We’re seeing, at lest right now, that same kind of luck going the Leafs’ way with FLA-BOS.

Wow, I could never forgive the Bruins for the heartbreak of 2011. That cup was ours and they and Colin Campbell stole it from us. I am mainly all in on the Leafs since the boards here have hammered into me that our owner is a thug, management is incompetent, Horvat was the GOAT and we did him ‘dirty’, our core is a disgrace and we will never get more than 2 home playoff games. Definitely time to find a back-up team given all that! I’ve been to Toronto. It’s a lot like Vancouver, a fantastic city in a beautiful area. Could never cheer for dive cities like Edmonton or Winnipeg.

Actually, tbh, my issue is that a huge Oilers fan literally tried to destroy my and my family’s life, and almost succeeded. Like the stress of what he did literally caused a disease in my family. So, any hint of them doing well triggers me. He also despised the Canucks and made that quite clear. Little did I know the only thing he hated more than the Canucks was me!

The Colorado of 2023 is not even close to the Colorado of 2022. The Oilers outplay the AVs, Kings, Stars and Knights most nights in head-to-head match-ups. They are near the top, as is, in the West. There is not a team, this year, that can stand toe-to-toe in the west in a best-of-7 with the Oilers. Sadly, also the East is going to be such a meat-grinder this year that any team that emerges from the East will be so ground up that they will be annihilated by any team that comes out of the west. Think of how we were against the Bruins after our brutal western journey in 2011. Just decimated. Also, historically, the Bruins have a tough time against the Oilers whereas we struggle mightily. 2023 seems like 2011 in reverse. The President Trophy winning Bruins will come into the final injured as heck and the Oilers, heavy underdogs, will grind out a 7-game Stanley Cup victory against them. For those of us rooting against the Oilers, we want to see a team come out of the east that has a winning record, not just this season but historically, against the Oilers and that sure ain't the Bruins. Kind of fearful of a NYI-Edm SCF, Bo would fight like heck to overcome McDavid and Draisatl, but the Isles would probably fall just short in the end. The Oilers seeming to have a clear path to the SCF is bad enough but likely facing a team they historically do well against, the Bruins, is even more of a nightmare. P.S.: Forgot to add that the Oilers might pull off a blockbuster TDL deal that will make them even scarier and our lives even more miserable. I will also discount any posts that try to argue how much of a behemoth the Bruins are. Show me your playoff chops first, bears!!

Just wondering what ya think our chances of being in the playoffs in 2023-24 are if we were to luck out and draft Connor Bedard? At this point, with this defence and this atmosphere, I think we're more likely to destroy his confidence and turn him into a shell of the player he is now if we were to get him. But, anyway, say we get Bedard and "retool" the defence somewhat, enough for playoffs next season? -

The worst part of this whole thing is that at the beginning of 2013 (the last year ending in 3), the Oilers were a joke with one of the most pathetic teams and management the NHl has ever seen, a total laughing stock, with no future. We had the Sedins, were at the top of the division every year and a playoff lock. Now, 10 years later, the Oilers look primed to win the Stanley Cup this year with the greatest player in the history of the NHL and we have no future, no hope in hell of making the playoffs, no plans, no superstars (EP, Demko (who can't even play right now due to being hurt, and QH are total laughing stocks) and our captain hates his own team so much that he can't wait to flee and totally incompetent management, coaching and ownership that would make an all-volunteer Junior A-run team look superb in comparison. Not to mention, for some reason, we just gave the biggest a**hole in the entire NHL (No. 9) a massive undeserved 8 year contract. We've turned into the 2010s Oilers. It's a nightmare from the bowels of hell, itself, and I'm finally just done with it at all! Happy bloody new year!
