Canucks need a RD and need to shed salary. Devils need to save money.
Canucks trade Eriksson and Sutter for P. K. Subban.
New Jersey will save 3.5 million of tangible money. Vancouver will dump 10.375 million in cap space this season on two underperforming forwards.
New Jersey gets a centre, Sutter, that can play on the RW, which is a wing they need. Eriksson can still play on the wing as a "responsible" bottom 6 forward. NJ could buy him out next season to save more money.
Vancouver gets a RD veteran in P.K. whose point totals have gone down, but he can provide a necessary stop gap and at least tie up money on a position we need.
