  1. Being a fan is not mutually exclusive of the belief that his time on the team is done - for both his and the team's sake.
  2. "You're fired" Sorry...couldn't resist.
  3. He sets a good example for work ethic and dedication for sure. My question has always been how much of a role in the leadership/mentor area does he really play, and if we need him in that role or are there enough others. That is, how many mentors or leaders does a rebuild need? Definitely something for Trevor and company to decide - is the value statement there (Burrows salary vs. need of the role). In the end, it is a bit of a values decision for the club to make. One that is likely pretty hard to measure or say in absolute terms if right or wrong, no matter what they do.
  4. One thing people have repeated a few times is about Burrows' leadership and role as a mentor. I wonder what that's based on, though. We don't see how he interacts with other players in the dressing room or at practice. How do the young guys view him? Could be with respect for all the hard work and how he has carved a niche for himself or do they see him as a player of the past whose main contributions have been diving, chirping, and other controversial behaviours? Or something in between? As far as I can tell, people saying he is a needed leader or mentor are just Burrows fans (not that there's anything wrong with that).
  5. I think you may have your cause and effects backwards.
  6. I am sure he has something to contribute to the right team and at the right price if he is willing to be traded.
  7. Generally agree. It becomes a question of how many and of what nature of player management thinks they need. Keeping something purely based on past roles or contributions isn't a good reason by itself. Is Burrows a nice to have or a need to have at this point? Besides, we have no idea what he is like in the room. Maybe his chirping and some of those behaviours spill over and some people don't like him or management feels that those make him a poor role model despite his work ethic. We don't know (and yes, I have no idea either, it is just a hypothetical).
  8. I would say I respect every single player that makes the NHL. Even the lowest ranked 4th liner is one of the best in the world in a very hard game. I didn't say anything about respect though but rather he, and any player really, should be treated with dignity. That goes for someone put on waivers, traded, bought out, or released.
  9. "Buy a girlfriend"?? Umm........no.
  10. That's pretty much case for any employee-employer relationship: you have an agreement to do work and they have an agreement to pay you for it. Once the work is done and the payments made, the slate is clean.
  11. Teams evolve. Burrows ECHL route was a great story but it's nearing the end. Besides, he also hurt the team a lot reputationally so it's not all rainbows and unicorns. The guy has had his turn and made a pile of money. No one owes him anything other than treating him with dignity so other players can expect the same.
  12. Unless you want the attention of your own thread I guess. Regardless, it's been beat to death in the other thread.
  13. Can't cling to the past either. It's a results business.
  14. Hockey is a results business. Yes, Burrows has a great history with the club as have many over the last 40+ years. The team and game moves on. Teams that hang on to players too long or for the wrong reasons don't succeed.
  15. Which is a bit of a contradiction of course
  16. I wouldn't say they are Canada's team but they are the only Canadian team to cheer for.
  17. I think because he essentially came out of nowhere (not a top prospect) he was underrated and undervalued early (which is to say, he surpassed expectations). He was a key player as the team peaked a few years ago, and now on the down curve, is overrated by some based on that history. It balances out really. He has had a really good career and still has contributions to make. No matter what, though, in the end he will always have the asterisk by his name in some people's minds ("yes, but he played with the Sedins..."). Fair or not.
  18. Yeah, it really should be "Burrows. Did we really need him?" now. No cup = no.
  19. Basically speaking of the importance of playing four lines - then adding that if Torts were coaching it would have been over a long time ago
  20. Agreed - there is no way they should be going into June - it's summer now. Even when teams I care about are in it, it's hard to actually still engage this late.
