I'm so embarrassed and ashamed to say I'm from Vancouver...

I'm living in London at the moment and it just breaks my heart to see such a beautiful city descend into such barbarity.

It really saddens me to think that the there are people in this city and province I love so much that are capable of lowering themselves to such levels...

People protest and riot for their freedom, democracy, liberty, and equality while spoiled first world'ers throw a tantrum over a hockey game...

Rating vancouver on it's worst people?

Yeah, that is some critical thinking there. How about rate vancouver on the thousands of volunteers helping clean up and gathering pictures to help bring the perpetrators to justice?

nahh, lets harp on the negative, guess we are all heroin junkies from out of town as well.

Well lets see where you can move:

Alberta? No, all cop killers and school shooters

Sask? Nope, one of the worst crime rates in Canada.

Manitoba? Hrmm, worst homicide rate in 2009, maybe it's better now?

Ontario? Yeah sure if you want your kids to get shot walking the streets during all the gang warfare.

Quebec? What drug would you like to be strung out on and will you join the hells angels or the mafia?

Hey hey, microscoping and generalizing is sure fun, isn't it?

We are all Canucks.

We are not all rioters. I for one, am proud to be a fan, and I am prouder that I call BC home.

As for the losers doing the rioting, may they burn in hell.

Vancouver and BC still kick ass. Lets clean up and make this place right so when the cup comes home next year, we can all be proud!!!

While I was saddened and disappointed by the actions of a small segment of the lower mainland's population, it doesn't change my attitude towards the Canucks' organization or the city of Vancouver for that matter.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

How many stood and watched as this went down? an 1/8th of the population of BC was there to stop it, yet no one did, instead they egged them on

nahh, lets harp on the negative, guess we are all heroin junkies from out of town as well.

Positives being? Friends too their kids (10 & 8) downtown hoping to have a good time like we saw during the olympics and cheer on their team, they had to flee the core when things went sideways while their kids were petrified and crying. Thank god they were prepared that this might happen and werent surprised (how sad is that)

Bravo you can read Wikipedia articles and you really microscoped there buddy, Vancouver has problems, and we never want to admit to it, no where is perfect, but our sweep under the rug attitude is going to be our end...

After all this I am done with Hockey, and definitely done with Vancouver...

This is a horrible, violent city with ego maniacs and narcissists at the helm. We hide behind our "beauty" and scenery and forget that nature has nothing to do with being a civilized compassionate society. People in other parts of the world are fighting and rioting for basic things we take for granted such as civil liberties and human rights. We should be ashamed of ourselves, and be doing everything possible to find those accountable. We stood and watched as they ruined this city and it's reputation for years to come, we should at least make amends and find those that are responsible. Sadly it is too late, you all can have your city. I'm moving somewhere else. Don't know where, but after the gang war the past few years, the rampant drug problems in the suburbs and now a riot over a hockey game, nevermind the SECOND riot over a hockey game, its time to move on. My wife and I are planning for children, and there must be better options than this.

This was all over a ficking hockey game, a sport where athletes are paid mega millions win or lose, and this is how we respond? Shameful. My jersey will be hung up for a few years I think. After the officiating debacle, and now the "fans" response, I truely see what the rest of Canada saw in Vancouver fans. I'm sorry that this is what it took for me to realize, I guess I could not see the forest through the trees. I was proud of the Canucks, we went to game 7, yes we crapped the bed, but so be it, 28 other teams were already golfing for the past two months, not the Canucks, and this is how we showed gratitude? I was proud when the fans chanted for the team to come back on the ice for a final salute, too bad outside was a different story. I just can't be a fan anymore, and sadly it had nothing to do with the team or the organization.

PEOPLE WERE SERIOUSLY HURT AND POSSIBLY DEAD OVER A GAME!!!!!! IT'S NOT WORTH IT, NOTHING IS!

- A former Canucks, and hockey fan.

Meh, the city, the NHL, and the Canucks as an organization all fell from greatness YEARS ago, it's all a joke now.

Still very angry and NOT about the team...

So much for all of the work MG has done to make this an attractive place for free agents. These jerks probably cost us a lot of cap space last night in addition to everything else.

I am still proud of our boys and the reaction of most of the fans in the building last night.

They should have closed the bars yesterday and not allowed liquor sales at all in the city of Vancouver.

The cops said that they were ready yesterday I don't know what they were smoking.

It is really terrible that the actions of a few thugs overshadows the actions of the vast majority of people, especially those inside the arena who behaved with a lot of class.

Given the number of people actually causing trouble who had balaclavas or something else to cover their face, there were some people who went there to start trouble and, most likely, there would have been trouble whether the Nucks had won or lost. Any time you get a large group of people together, there is always a good chance there might be trouble. The people who really tick me off are the ones standing around, whether egging the troublemakers on, taking pictures or whatever. Anyone with more than a couple of functioning brain cells would have cleared out when the trouble started. The police showed a lot of restraint and if you were one of the people who got tear gassed despite not breaking windows, starting fires or anything like that, you deserve no sympathy. You had ample opportunity to leave but instead chose to stay and make the problem worse.

Anyone who takes this as representative of the population of lower mainland is an idiot so don't even bother worrying about their opinion. If you have the chance, help clean up. If you have any information on the thugs, pass it on to the authorities. Life goes on and in a few weeks, the city won't show many signs of the riot and all the holier-than-thou types from Ontario, Alberta, etc. will go back to being envious of you for living in a much nicer place than they do.

Read my post in the GDT thread from Monday night. I said 6/15 would either be our 9/11 or our moon landing. It was our 9/11. How little did I know that it would literally be our 9/11. This is a nightmare. I was already done with Canada after they elected lunatic Harper with a majority. Now I'm done with this province also. In fact, I'm pretty much done with everything. What a nightmare. What did WE, loyal Cancuks fans, do to deserve this torture? My heart is broken in so many ways. I can't even begin to describe it.

I know it was a small group of people compared to all the Canucks fans and ordinary Vancouverites out there. But seriously, when you see half a dozen hooligans turning over a car and there were about 100+ bystanders smiling and cheering, it's kind of hard to think good thoughts about Vancouver population in general.

The Bruins may have humiliated the Canucks on the ice, but Vancouver humiliated itself with its reaction.

I just went by Granville and Georgia before coming to work and checked out the Bay and London Drugs. The Bay's windows have been boarded up, but there is LOTS of broken glass behind them. Repairs and clean up are already taking place in London Drugs.

I didn't see any people the general public (ie. the Facebook group) other than the workers helping out the clean up.

I was not at the downtown fan zone on game 7 but i did notice suspicious elements in the crowd in game 5. a couple of guys stood in front of us carrying a bag full of baseball bats and a luggage holding probably something not good. one of them was wearing an anarchy shirt. of course i can't say they were planning a riot if things go wrong but you can't help but wonder what the hell are they doing with a bag of baseball bats watching a hockey game. i certainly cant believe they got through into the fan zone with those items. its a shame what happened yesterday and i am so ashamed of these so-called fans. i hope each and everyone of them get the punishment they deserve.

there was going to be a riot. win or loose.
the truck in front of canada post was intensionally put there for this reason.
but like someone mentioned, this whole thing was started by non canuck fan.
possibly the same idiots from olympic protest.
i mean why would anyone bring that black face covering thing to see a game.

For a moment last night, I thought we might loose with dignity. Giving Thomas and Lucic standing ovations. Only 15 minutes later, I see the these riots. It's a down right shame that a hand full of these fools, went out to the game last night only to cause chaos. The group of idiots who looted, burned and destroyed for the sake of a loss, have put a black mark not only on the city but on the Canucks Franchise. I wish that I could take part in the cleanup today to show what true Canuck fans are like.
