Well... I'm sorry but he's terrible right now. Hopefully he'll improve once he gets a bit older

Gogo has just been ridiculous lately. I wonder if anyone will take a late-round flyer on him this draft? He's 20, small, and Russian, but he has simply dominated this year.

Rockets Pound Raiders for 21st Straight Home Win
January 26, 2013

Kelowna now has the fourth longest home winning streak in WHL history after convincing sixth straight win, 6-2 over Prince Albert

Jan. 26, 2013 - Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince Albert Raiders 6-2 on Saturday night, winning its 21st straight game at Prospera Place and it's sixth straight game overall.
Cody Fowlie scored twice while Tyson Baillie had a goal and two helpers in the Rockets win. Damon Severson, Jesse Lees and Ryan Olsen also scored for the Rockets, who improved to 37-10-2-1 with the win.

Jordon Cooke extended his personal winning streak in the Rockets net to a team-record 20 straight wins.
"We had great energy all night long," said Rockets' coach Ryan Huska on the AM 1150 post game show. "We got everybody involved in the game and our leaders did a great job making sure everyone was ready to play."
With the victory the Rockets have tied the fourth longest home winning streak in Western Hockey League history, tying the 1968 Estevan Bruins and Flin Flon Bombers and the 1992 Kamloops Blazers. The WHL's longest home winning streak is 29, held by the '93 Blazers.
Kelowna has just a day off before heading to Kamloops to take on the Blazers on Monday night, in an important WHL BC division game.
The Rockets next home game is next Thursday against Victoria.

21 and counting

I just got invited, box seats for the Royals game tonight. And it's against my old home team, the Kelowna Rockets!

It's a big game. With only 13 games to go they are in 6th, but only a point back of Spokane and 2 back of Tri-Cities. It would be great if they could leapfrog one or both of those teams and maybe even get home ice for the first round. It would certainly be better than having to face Kamloops or Kelowna in the first round.

Well... that didn't go as I had hoped. The seats were great, but the game... not so much.

Hopefully things will go better when I get to go to the Lethbridge and Spokane games this week.

Go Royals!

Man, what does it take to see a win these days? I'm afraid it looks like it's going to be a real short post-season the way things have been going.

i bet you the royals will pull off a win or two. Will be odd to play at that other rink.

The ice is still the same size though.

The Royals have had some success against the Blazers this year, but the way the past ten games have been going, I would be surprised if they even won one.

Hey Guys, made this for the Blazer thread but I thought it would applicable to you guys as well. Nothing to really signify its pro-blazers other than the twitter handle.

A good little article from today's TC on the possibility of a Nanaimo rival...

The Western Hockey League wants to give the Victoria Royals a new playmate in the Island playpen.

“We’ve identified Nanaimo as a potential market that would be a nice complement to Victoria,” WHL commissioner Ron Robison said in an interview Monday night.

“It would be a natural rival for Victoria. And it really helps with scheduling and would alleviate the double-headers [the back-to-back home games against the same team that the Royals are now forced to play].”

Robison spoke after addressing an in-camera meeting of Nanaimo city council Monday.

“We are in ongoing discussions with Nanaimo and the city invited us to make a presentation,” said Robison.

Also taking part in the in-camera session were Graham Lee, who owns the Royals and operates Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, and Ken Wagner, part owner of the Nanaimo Clippers of the B.C. Hockey League.

Lee did not return phone calls Monday.

Robison said Lee attended only to talk about his experience as a team owner and arena operator. Lee’s firm, RG Properties, also runs Prospera Place, home of the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets. “Graham made it clear [his appearance] was just for information,” said Robison.

“He took them through his experiences in Victoria. No commitments were made. It is up to Nanaimo council to see if it wants to proceed. We left it for them to determine.”

The biggest obstacle is the lack of a suitable venue. A new arena would have to be built in the Harbour City for a WHL team to make Nanaimo its home.

But the WHL’s interest won’t be indefinite, Robison indicated.

“We want to know at some point in the near future,” said the WHL commissioner.

Nanaimo city staff have been assembling details from other cities that have built arenas in the 5,000-seat range. A report is expected in the coming weeks.

Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan has said he would like to see a WHL franchise move in, but he isn’t interested if Nanaimo taxpayers have to underwrite the cost of a new arena. He wasn’t immediately available for comment on Monday.

Robison said the WHL would not expand but that an existing team would be relocated to Nanaimo. He did not specify which team that could be.

Teams that are vulnerable include the Prince George Cougars — the former Victoria Cougars — the Kootenay Ice, Swift Current Broncos and the Prince Albert Raiders, each of which averaged fewer than 2,674 fans per game last season, with Prince George bottoming out at 1,840.

The Royals listed an average attendance of 5,189 fans last season.

Nanaimo had a team for one season in the WHL. The former Billings Bighorns became the Nanaimo Islanders for the 1982-83 season, and played out of the 2,432-seat Frank Crane Arena with a 20-51-1 record and didn’t make the playoffs. The Islanders relocated the next season to New Westminster. That franchise is now located in eastern Washington state and known as the Tri City Americans.

The Clippers now play in Frank Crane Arena.

I love the atmosphere at the SOFA ( Save On Foods Arena) I have been to a few Royals games and they sure do get intense.. and sometimes very loud. Logan Nelson, Gogolev. I compare Logan Nelson to Scott Hartnell (His Hair) and Gogolev to Alex Galchenyuk they seemed to play very similar to me. Love the Royals. Love their Jerseys. Im a proud supporter of Blue!

Stoked for this upcoming season. Already have tickets to the home opener vs. the Giants on the 21st. Looking forward to another exciting season, even if we'll be without our best player from last year (GoGo).
