Oregon Canucky Posted October 22, 2012 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Hey guys! Just wanted to update everyone about the renovation of Portland Winterhawks' Veteran's Memorial Colosseum! The owner of the Winterhawks actually paid for almost half of the renovation! The renovation includes; extra 15 feet of ice (nhl regulation size), Wider seats, and an HD jumbo tron and video system! The most exciting prospect in all of this is that, suddenly we have a SECOND NHL ready arena! The owner of the Winterhawks (Bill Gallacher, a Calgary businessman, purchased the team in October 2008.) has shown interest in an NHL franchise before, but the owner of the Rose Garden (and the Portland Trail Blazers) refused to work with Gallacher for reasons only speculated.... Im not sure the HD system is ready yet (the ice and seats are recently completed), but it will be before play offs so don't be scared to purchase live feeds from Portland's Memorial Colosseum! screw you Paul Allen and your damn Trail (jail) Blazers, were gonna play hockey! Jägermeister Posted October 22, 2012 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I feel like Portland could definitely support an NHL team, but the Coliseum is currently about 6,000 seats short of it being a NHL ready arena, and I can't see this renovation adding that much on. Oregon Canucky Posted October 22, 2012 Author Share Posted October 22, 2012 I imagine we would actually lose seats considering were widening them, AND adding ice... however, if we filled less seats on a regular basis, we could make more money than phoenix! Now if only the rich, rich owners of the Blazers could put a little money into the aging (although still beautiful) Interior Savings Centre.
