canucknation Posted November 3, 2014 Share Posted November 3, 2014 So all the film buffs in Vancouver have probably heard of VIFF (Vancouver International Film Festival)....but who here has heard of the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF)? I'm surprised with all the Asians in Vancouver, this festival isn't talked about that much. Anyone gone or planning to go this year? They are obscure and have no recognizable movie stars. I looked at the list and a lot of them are made from local young filmmakers just starting out. They look at issues like loss of identity in a western society, cultural and generational clashes, etc. Plus a lot of them are short films, documentaries, and animation. In other words, Art films. Don't forget people from their Asian homeland could get any films/tv shows via the internet anyway, why bother to go out in the rain and cold to see some obscure movie.
