I'm just trying to wrap my head around some simple facts.

    - Management said they wanted to improve the defense

    - Instead, management signed or acquired 8 new forwards (Kuz, Miller, Boes, Mikayev, lazar, Aamen sp? Joshua, Studnicka)

    - Team is noticeably worse on defense and losing bad

    - Management suggest that coaching, and nothing else is to blame ???

I just don't follow the logic and feel that something is missing here. It genuinely feels like a stealth tank job but the blame is going somewhere else.

Pretty sure Rutherford said the defense he "could work with"

    - Did end up getting Bear

Said they wanted to get younger and faster...

    - Boeser? Asset Management would be my guess

    - Kuzmenko isn't fast but a free player...

    - Mikheyev - Fast

    - Aman Free player again, seems a good pickup

    - Studnicka Don't mind him so far, part of getting rid of Dickenson so there's that, seemed to wake Dickenson up too...

Rutherford made the same comments on team structure last year...

If it is a stealth tank job, might be dictated on not being able to move guys like Myers, Pearson etc, limp through the season get a good draft pick and then possibly those contracts are easier to move going into UFA years. Not a bad idea if nobody wants to take on our under performing players...

Ultimately it comes down to defensive detail from the forwards, they are our strength right now and they need to back check and pay attention in their own end, been many goals against where the shooter is all alone un checked, on the replay you see a canuck forward 5 feet away, watching the puck, realizing too late.... that was their man...

If they can figure that part out we have the offense to win games and make some noise... but there is no guarantee this forward group can play defense.

That's how your interpreted vintage giving a player update? VC is the main sources of statistics on this fan forum. He was just updating us that Motte was having a solid start to the season.

The same Motte who works his absolute ass off on the ice, revolutionized his game from a scorer to a top tier grinder, and constantly advocated for mental health awareness.

Still not really sure why you felt the need to stand up and try to dump on one of the few bonafide good guys in the league, but to each their own I presume.

Did not say anything about Motte outside of what he produced after being traded from the Canucks, did not mention anything regarding Motte's skills, work ethic or playing style, not sure what you are inferring from my post.

If I offended you in any way it was unintentional... peace

What does that have to do with him having a hot start with the Senators?

Well the comment seemed to imply players do better after being traded from the Canucks, and used Motte's hot start with the Sens as another example.

Just pointing out that Motte had 0 points in 9 games after being traded from the Canucks to the Rangers and was not re-signed.

  4. Horvat has what every team covets as much as a RHD... Who are you going to put on the ice, with the game on the line, a face off gives you possession and a chance to decide a game... It can't be said enough, you have zero chance to impact a game when the other team has the puck. He will get paid, by us, by someone else, whether you like it or not.

  5. Well you have to give to get, a developed 1st round pick costs at minimum a 1st round pick or 1st round prospect plus a sweetener for time served... and that only gets you to the point of why does Arizona pick you to get his rights... cost of doing business is going to be high. Especially if your trying  to work Dickenson going back the other way....

Look at how good our centers are. And look at how good our goalie is. Then look at where we were in the standings...

...And that is how bad our defense is.

You have to give the new coaching staff some time here, down the stretch we played pretty good hockey, but I would be on the side of we need NHL players on the backend... but might be a team strategy for focusing on offense to win games. The new NHL is pretty soft.

  7. Hard to use career numbers as players do not always have the same opportunity, icetime and linemates... JT has been put in a top line role and has flourished.

And the way it works is you do not tell you best performer and leader, great job your killing it! Doing everything we want in a top line player... PPG players make 8-9 million per Buuuut I think I want to pay you an average salary just in case. Ok?

  8. Kind of a pipe dream to have NHL ready defense men playing in the minors for you, would be great to have depth players who step in and not miss a beat...

These types of players want to be in the NHL not the minors... All you can hope for is young prospects that will step up and gain experience without making too many mistakes while covering for an injury. Always going to have to settle for less that NHL caliber depth... for the most part anyways especially on defense imho
