  1. Sorry I just must have misunderstood you, he's not an average goalie, he's a great goalie with average stats. Better? All I'm saying is that he has been playing average for the last few years and this could go in a few directions from here, not sure what your beef is? I'm not going to sit on Lou's lap and whisper sweet nothing's to him and I don't think I need to apologize for that. If he's playing average he is (two years is not a small sample size two months is) if he redeems himself then he does I'm not saying he can't play better but as of now he is the same goalie we have had the last two years and that holds true till he becomes the goalie we had three years ago. You understand what I'm saying?

I'm sure he'll be fine. Increased defense, back to being number one, new coach who I'm sure ultimately had a say in who he wants as his goaltender.

    Confidence is high.

  2. I'm not actually as down on Torts as you might think, Wallstreet. As we have already discussed, I agree with you that AV's time in Vancouver was done.

However, I'm a fan of what Stevens was able to accomplish with the Kings' defense corps, and I thought he was the best choice for the Canucks' coaching job.

My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, though. I realize that Tortorella is pretty much a done deal. I'm hoping that Gillis has this one right, because I would have gone in a different direction.

The Kings also have Doughty. That's the major difference here.

  3. This may have been posted already, so forgive me for being repetitive.

Quote:When he wants to, he can be the most engaging, fun and interesting guy you’ve every spoken to. It’s unbelievable. And if you catch him at the right moment and there’s a topic he wants to talk about, he’s great and he laughs and he laughs at himself.”

I've heard Ferraro mention how engaging and how well he actually gets along with players. Isn't that who we really want him to get along with? I've never heard him being condescending or disrespectful with fans, just media.

I do not know how many times I've become exasperated with certain writers in the media, have any of you? The media doesn't even ask fans the questions.

Do I respect the media? To a point. Certain members that have been around a while and gained general respect. Hacks like Botchford, I can barely wait for Tortorella to tear him a new one.

Over all who cares how he treats the media. How much respect does the media have for an individual? See Todd Burtuzzi after the Steve Moore incident. Reporters going to his house in N Van. Burtuzzi , right or wrong should garner some level of privacy.

Reporters over all seem to lack respect in that area. They've garnered that at all levels of reporting. News and sports.

So sure, Tortarella still needs to show restraint but at the same time this town's sports media needs a reset too. Hacks like Botchford will poke the bear for a story because poking the bear is the only way these types get story's. Let me be clear, Botchford being a hack is my personal opinion, not a reflection on his character, just his job. I"m sure he's a fun guy. I just don't care for his reporting.

Let me ask this again. I think we should all think about this one before we throw Gillis and Tortarella under the bus on this potential hire. Tortarella's problem is more with the media than any one else. There will always be a player or two in any coaches dog house. There will always be a malcontent player with management. On any team. Different teams deal with these types in different manners.

So really, where is the problem with Torts?

It lies in the media and personally I don't care about that. I just want wins and a happy team behind closed doors.

I read the article. It once again makes the media look like a bunch if soccer moms who can't handle a little adversity. I say unleash the beast in Tortorella unto them and let him rip them a big new one for their sins against this team.

Their hope that he can be softened and the "last chance in the NHL" bits are exactly the type of stupidity these idiots keep cramming into people's brains.

I respect the whole diversion of questions regarding the team. Let the coaching staff and the team figure out the team; not the fans and certainly not the media.

  4. Glad you are not running the team.

On numerous occasions, whether in war or peace, at the office, in arts, wherever an entire group is needed on the same page for the work to be done, the sacrifice of one person can do wonders for the rest of the group. No better place to look than Jesus, followed a few hundred years later by inquisition and public sacrifice in order to gel the masses into Carholicism. Wartime is also laced with sacrifice, especially in Early China. When a member of the Russian army would surrender, they would be killed on their run back.

Keanan had the right mentality on Sanderson.

  5. What if Torts is actually being hired as gm and not as coach.

Interesting point. But leaving MG in charge until the turnaround would be a massive black eye.

I wouldn't mind Keanan again as GM. Whether one hates him or hates him, the Linden trade has and continues to pay massive dividend.

Keanan/ Tortorella duo would be fire in and ocean.

  6. I actually DO want Tortorella. Shut up

I want Tortorella to be the coach too. He's exactly what this team needs, and this city's media.

    His credentials speak for themselves.

The media deserves every bit of wrath they garner. It is not for Tortorella to tune it down,it is for the media to sharpen up. Though I have a feeling that Tortorella is one heated press conference away from being told by management to tune it down as they have done the same with Lapierre, Kassian and others. I just hope that it was AV who told people to tune it down and not upper management. If that's the case, then the Canucks will be juuuust fine.

  7. Rangers haven't made it farther than us in the last 2 years of the playoffs.

Also had a worst team than the Canucks.

I hope it's Tortorella. He'll turn this franchise's players around. All the amenities Aquilini brought to the team will cease to serve a country club and start serving player improvement.

  8. Congratulations!!! One of the most idiotic posts on CDC in while (well at least a week)!

He's right. There are many beautiful things life offers and I'm in the same camp. I don't have too much time to spend, spread my hard earned money to watch millionaires fall on their asses.

I figure to have spent over 4,000 hours watching this team when one day something in me clicked. That's an average of 9 hours a week spent just sitting on a clutch watching a an animated wall that is based on sensationalization, propaganda and desire.

I do catch the odd game here and there but no more do they have my full attention.

  9. I am genuinely laughing at those that are making a case for Torts. I don't mean that in a mean way, it's just that he's clearly a basket case with a hairline trigger. If we signed him, it would be for entertainment purposes, and to shut up our annoying media.

That's right. The media would then be in the dark and would have to wake up to the fact that they are absolutely vindictive against their own team. Then again, most figures in the Vancouver media come from somewhere else and cheat for other teams. The composition of locals in the local media is reminiscent of a desert rose lacking water.

Tortorella also has a Cup under his belt. That cannot be overlooked.

If the Canucks were to become as entertaining as Tortorella, they'd win a Cup.

  10. Well AV chewing gum in silence sure didn't do anything to help. At least Torts going ballistic on skating pieces of fecal matter like Sutherland would fire up the team a little.

A little? That's EXACTLY what this team needs. This team needs a no nonsense attitude. It needs a coach that will bench Kesler the next time he dives. Conversely, a coach that will utilize players and their abilities in the most effective manner, bringing out the best out of each to complement the whole.

Tortorella or another round of Crawford will do. I'm sure Crawford would chose Luongo over Schneider any day of the week, Tortorella as well.

A note on AV, the players had nothing to learn anymore because there was no player movement. I believe that's how Ruff lasted so long in Buffalo; player movement.

Players are employees. At the end of the day, a company reduces production by keeping same old rules and regulations when it's employees stop learning. A new voice my be the only thing this team needs... Beside Cap compliance and a few trades....... Of course...

  11. Tortorella is exactly what this team and city needs. If the Canucks are back to a country club mentality, they're not going anywhere but the golf course. It might be time to ask whether they want to win a Cup or play golf; that's the only country club they'll see if they don't get their act together. I see no problem with Tortorella's antics of benching stars and pushing players beyond their capability. That's how you win a Cup. The Sedins need a little bit of anger anyways. Send them out to kill penalties, separate them to spread the wealth and don't tell me they can't play separated. When Daniel went down, Henrik started shooting and became an even more complete center.

I want to see Tortorella when Kesler dives next time.

Lets face it. The Canucks need a right leash around their neck and get back to business because their business is going down faster than the Titanic sank.

Regarding the media, Tortorella would be the greatest thing that happened to this city. I want him to chew a new a-hole out of these pricks that are bringing down my team year after year after year. I want the media to scream and moan until their blue in the face and keel over one by one.

As for Gillis, if Tortorella comes in, it says directly to the players that they're on a right leash and if all goes right, whoever doesn't agree with Tortorella's actions, they can request a trade and be shipped out one by one.

This AV style of "let the players manage themselves" is the wrongest way to go. How would the results look like if one sent soldiers to the front line without a General? The enemy would win, win, and win once again.

The Canucks have become a farce around the NHL and no other culprit is greater than the local media. Tortorella can frustrate them to no end and that's exactly what this team needs.

Tortorella isn't in the business of being liked.
