With how he talked about his family in an interview I read.. I think unless the $$$ are huge he's going to stay in the states as close to his family as possible

Well, if the OEL trade does end up dying on the vine tomorrow, at least Rutherford posted an article tonight with this tidbit:

“There are other teams interested in Pietrangelo, and after St. Louis, The Athletic has unofficially ranked his preferred destinations as such: No. 1 Vegas, No. 2 Toronto and No. 3 Florida. Vancouver and Edmonton are also believed to have expressed interest, but those are considered longshots.”

Sure, we’re considered “longshots,” but it’s something. ;)

If Pietrangelo signs with us it will be on a huge contract 10m+ a year

Oliver Ekman-Larsson could be traded by the Arizona Coyotes, but they do not feel pressure to do so before the NHL free agent market opens at noon ET on Friday, Oct. 9.

The 29-year-old defenseman, who has been Arizona captain the past two seasons, has a full no-movement clause in his contract, but his agent, Kevin Epp, told TSN on Tuesday that Ekman-Larsson has given the Coyotes a Friday deadline to trade him. Reportedly, the two teams Ekman-Larsson would consider a trade to are the Boston Bruins or Vancouver Canucks.

Arizona general manager Bill Armstrong, speaking on the NHL @TheRink podcast Thursday, said the Coyotes are not going to make a panic move to meet the deadline, especially if the offers they receive are not worth what they believe Ekman-Larsson's value to be.

"When you deal with clubs on any player, they're not maybe as high as offers as you'd like to come back or assets that you'd like to gain, so there's a patience," Armstrong said. "Our ownership has done a great job just saying, 'Hey, listen, we're going to hold the [NHL] salary cap where it is and we're not going to panic here, you're going to go in there and do your work.' We've always operated, I guess, from strength in the simple fact that we have some opportunity to move assets, but we're in no panic to do it."

Armstrong, who was hired Sept. 17, said he has an open line of communication with Ekman-Larsson, who scored 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists) in 66 regular-season games and four points (one goal, three assists) in nine postseason games this season.

"Oliver and I have had some good discussions," Armstrong said. "We've talked about the scenarios and I basically went back to him and just said, 'Hey, listen, just hang in there. I know you're stressed about it. Let's get through this free agency, get on the other side of it, we'll reach out and stay in touch.' I said, 'If there is something that's bothering you, you can always reach out to me, let's just calm it now and we'll see where it moves to.'"

Epp told TSN that the Coyotes approached Ekman-Larsson about a trade, but he said the defenseman's preference is to remain with Arizona.

Ekman-Larsson signed an eight-year, $66 million contract ($8.25 million average annual value) on July 1, 2018, when John Chayka was the GM. The NHL salary cap will remain $81.5 million for next season, which is targeted to begin Jan. 1, 2021.

"I have a great respect for the player," Armstrong said. "I know him all the way back since he's been 17 years old. He's a great player. To me, he's a player that has the ability and the talent to win the Norris [Trophy]. He's our captain. He plays 23 minutes a night. I guess it's probably a little bit awkward in the sense that I like him as a player but at the same time the club is also exploring, and that's why I was hired, to explore every asset that we possibly could gain. … My goal here is to put all the assets on the board and explore every situation that could help this organization moving forward."

Armstrong said he is not worried about the relationship between Ekman-Larsson and the Coyotes if he doesn't get traded.

"He's a great person that you can always reach out to and have a conversation with," Armstrong said. "So it's easy on that front that if it doesn't work out, and obviously he's going to come back in the door, him and I can sit down and continue to work on the relationship and get him in the right spot. But we'll just deal with that afterwards. Right now we've got some work to do in free agency and obviously to look at some other deals to be done."

Armstrong said left wing Taylor Hall will become an unrestricted free agent Friday, reiterating what he said following the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday.

Hall scored 52 points (16 goals, 36 assists) in 65 games with the Coyotes and New Jersey Devils this season, including 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 35 games after he was traded to Arizona on Dec. 16, 2019. He scored six points (two goals, four assists) in nine postseason games.

"Taylor is a really good player, and I know the organization gave up a lot to bring him in (three prospects and two draft picks). It's just one of those situations right now for us to move forward I think it was a mutual parting," Armstrong said. "It's probably better for him to test the free agent market and for us to go in another direction, to manage what we have and add a few pieces to make us a better team."

He is trying to push back the deadline. If I am JB I start taking assets off the table if Boston re-signs Krug.

I went off?  Lol. I said pointed out the hypocrisy of mocking Montreal for signing a backup goalie then pointing out how important a good backup will be in a condensed schedule.  But you go ahead and interpret things your way. I’m done with your clown shoes attitude

Where did I mock them? You are delusional. You accuse me of doing exactly what you are doing. I pointed out facts. You seem to think Montreal is a clear playoff team because Carey Price beat Pittsburgh when they were a 500 team they had no chance of making the playoffs this year. The changes they made aren't likely to get them 10+ more wins.

Stopped reading after you said he barely has a full year of being a solid #1.

Go watch some games before you spout off this verbal diarrhea.

He was injured this year to end the season and in the playoffs. Last year he started off pretty poorly and the second half of the year is when he looked good. Where is the full season of stellar play you speak of? He hasn't had one complete season like Luongo or Miller... number 1 goalies who were established number 1's in both playoffs and regular season.

That is not Markstrom. The league has only just recognized him as a true number 1 and in his first playoffs his glove was exposed pretty badly.

Where did I say that?  I said Allen is a great backup. Nowhere did I say he’s as good as Price

Where did I say Allen was a great backup? I said Carey Price is the reason why they will make the playoffs, if they do, and alluded to this next season him probably not playing as many games and then you went off about how great of a backup Allen is.

On paper, adding Edmundson and Anderson will make them harder to play against.

Also, there is so much parity in the league now that most teams have a shot at the playoffs outside of your Ottawa's, LA's Detroit's and New Jersey's. At least if Price does go down, Allen can step in whereas the past few years, the backups in Montreal have been used sparingly. Allen will probably get 30-35 games this season, maybe more.

In any case, they will be a more rounded team, harder to play against IMO.

Domi is better than Anderson and they both play a gritty hard nosed game. Anderson is a harder hitter, yes but Domi plays 82 games a year and consistently puts up points. If Anderson doesn't play at the level he did in his best season this is a step backwards for Montreal and also a step backwards if Anderson barely plays which is also possible. Allen isn't Carey Price and Carey Price is the reason why The Habs make the playoffs, when they do.

So you let the sure thing walk because the young kid Projects to be better?

Thats a terrible decision,  especially with the goaltending position.

Again.  Demko could be great,  but Markstrom has already proven he is capable of being THE guy to carry this team as the #1.

No he hasn't. He doesn't even have a full year of being a solid number 1 under his belt and his playoff performance was not stellar it was hit or miss. Demko in the 3 games he played in the playoffs was light years better than any game Markstrom played in the playoffs. Markstrom isn't an established number 1 like Luongo, or Miller was in the past. He has just emerged and really as people pointed out with Demko he could be getting exposed which from what I saw his glove hand was exposed in the playoffs.

But they still managed to take out the Pens...

Adding Allen, Anderson and Edmundson gives them more depth with the ability to not lean on Carey too much. I am not a Habs fan but I do think these have been good moves that will help them improve next season.

Carey Price took out The Pens. They lost Domi who was a solid point producer and has shown to be incredibly durable throughout his career. They replaced him with a wild card. This could easily have been a step back for a team that was already bad. Adding a backup goalie and top 4 dman isn't going to magically make them a playoff team. They could easily be bottom 5 of the league next year especially with a condensed schedule were Price can't play the majority of the games.

Their roster has been shaped nicely this offseason thus far. Added some size and grit with Anderson and Edmundson. But that contract for Anderson is definitely a gamble, given his health and injury history. That is Bo Horvat money and he ain't a player like our captain!!!

    image.jpeg.db6c699c62f4f56fa87cd6b8a9a049be.jpeg

Who is Anderson's agent because that is one hell of a deal for him!

This was a team that was terrible and wouldn't even have been close to a playoff team if covid didn't happen.

You're trying to be the cool guy by being the rule enforcer / jerk, but you're just being an a-hole to everyone! Why is it so hard to approach it nicely from the start??? People make mistakes...including you!

The cool guy? No, I am letting everyone know you are posting fake rumours/reports. You were completely defiant until other members started to point out the same thing. Why don't you go read your own posts! Learn to read!

Actually the rule is that the origin of the thread has to be considered a valid source.

You can post anything you want in the discussion part.  Some folks have no lives and want to play “mini-moderators”....

While others pretend like they used to be an executive for an NHL franchise.

    Go away!!!

It'd be no different if someone on here came up with the idea and posted it for discussion.

It's not even comparable. You are making a post that is an embedded tweet that anyone who sees would assume is some legitimate source and its not until you scroll and read later posts that you go oh this is just some guy I know on twitter who likes to post things and isn't a valid source... okay? so why you are posting his tweet like it's some report coming out... If you had said everything in one post I would have moved on and ignored you completely because the post and idea was completely worthless.

You didn't post a rumour. A rumour has to be posted by someone reputable not some random dude on twitter.

No, you aren't passing along info you are posting a nobodies tweet in a trade rumour thread and making no mention that this person tweets you are posting is a completely random person until a later post.

Lol! He's a good dude! Doesn't pretend he's some insider or anything, just a huge Canucks / hockey fan and shares things he hears / his thoughts.

Then why are you posting it as if he is an insider? You don't copy other people's posts from other forums and "discuss" them. What a total waste of time reading what you've posted/created.

If that was the case, he never would have signed an 8yr deal with a NMC to Stay in Arizona. Only thing I can see if that he and Tocchet don't seem to get along. He likes it in Arizona hence his long term deal he recently signed

Yea it's not his agent said OEL prefers to stay in Arizona but the team wanted to move him and now they haven't traded him so that's why he put a deadline on it.
