Lost in all of this is where in the hell is Ferland and his money?!? Every future roster prediction does not include him and one cannot help but wonder if he may end up on LTIR or just medically retire. Would be great if he got healthy and became the physical asset we desired, but history would suggest otherwise. His money could go far in re-signing one of our UFAs and/or making this trade more feasible.

He's has to be on LTIR to start the year and probably for the remainder of the year but after that he might try to come back.

IMHO, it is the kid in the candy store scenario which only leads to regret for buying what you bought without considering everything....7 year at $8.25M player who hasn't done anything special and has average stats.

Hasn't done anything special? He led his team in scoring and scored 20 goals in a season, twice, as a defensemen. He's literally been the offense in Arizona. A team that struggles to score.. on a team that can put the puck in the net he is a 60-70pt defensemen.

OEL will be a mistake...he isn't a franchise defensemen...overrated. In a few years, he will bring the same sentiments as LE to this fanbase.

Do not repeat the same mistake that was done by signing LE. This time, it will be a $8.25M mistake.

He's literally been an franchise defesmen for the better part of a decade.

Montreal and Columbus just did.  Both Domi and Anderson were qualified by their former teams before the trade.  Players can still be traded after filing for arbitration.

If Cernak signs his qualifying offer it's the equivalent of signing a new contract.  Most players just let the offer-sheet lapse and negotiate a new contract instead.  Cernak's qualifying offer is only 735K and it's a two-way deal.  Those q.o. will automatically lapse on 18 October unless the team asks for a delay.

If a player files for arbitration he can no longer sign an offer-sheet. Filing for arbitration also helps set a deadline by which a contract has to be signed and avoid having negotiations drag late into the off-season or even the start of camp.

There is no interview period leading to free agency this year.  There is just 1 day between being able to talk to other teams about an offer-sheet and filing for arbitration - 10 October is the deadline to file and free agency opens up the 9th . If a player does not file he can still sign an offer-sheet.

Yea that was poorly worded I was meaning if he signs an offer sheet he can't be traded and Tampa would only be able to sign him or let him go for compensation. I have never seen a player who signed an offer sheet get traded I can't imagine its legal to do that.

That would require Cernak to sign the QO, at which point he would not be eligible for an Offer sheet. If you match an offer sheet you cannot trade them for a year

I might be wrong but I don't think he can be traded once he is offersheeted. I have never heard anyone say that. You'd hear about that anytime a player was offersheeted "oh, they are seeing how much they can get from via trade now" this doesn't happen.

Ferlands agent said he intends to keep playing?  For real?  Dude needs to think about his long term health at this point.

Yea when JB went to meet with him he agent said something like Ferland isn't planning to retire and plans to continue playing hockey.

because its that easy. As soon as there is a whiff of offersheets you can bet Cernak will get traded. They would get a better return than the offer sheet, plus im sure there are teams out there that could offer a better contract to Cernak so even if it did get to offersheets I doubt he would end here

You can't trade an RFA qualified player until the end of the year.

    Yes totally correct.

The retention on LE was just my idea -as I'd rather ARI takes Ferland + LE (50%), than LE with no retention.

Ferland is not getting traded. He has a NMC and his agent has said he intends to continue playing. He isn't going to waive it.

usually tho when you let your guys go to free agency you don't sign them, at least historically.

With that statement if Boston let's Krug go to FA he is gone. So really they have between now and Friday to decide if they want Krug or OEL and judging by how long they've prolonged this I'd say they want Krug more.

Bonino became Sutter who was usless, Sbisa was a plug,  traded the Mccann for another plug defenceman.

Okay? That doesn't change that when we traded Kesler we got a pretty decent return for him. 2 NHL players and a 1st and third.. That is a solid return for a player that really only wanted to go to one team.

but thats all Boston has to worry about. Jim has 3 UFAs and cap to clear too. If Jim waits until Friday morning, he may lose all 3 of his UFAs and not get OEL either. The Canucks are in the more complicated scenario by far on this. We need AZ, or someone, to take cap for this to work for us. Thats not going to happen Friday morning in free agency.

My preference would be for Jim to tell AZ end of the day today or he moves on. OEL would be a nice get, but we have many other options, but we burn some of those by waiting until Friday morning.

One of those players can be signed with OEL and JB likely wants that to be Markstrom. Friday comes and FA hits and we haven't gotten OEL then Tanev and Toffoli can be negotiated with like any other team can talk to them.. it's not a big deal. If someone offers them a big contract you let them walk. Boston is a true contending team and if they lose both OEL and Krug there isn't much to replace those guys for them.. They need one or the other.

jim benning better not get fleeced if he makes this trade. Arizona is in the same situation we were in with Kesler, him only wanting to go two teams, and we got fleeced in that trade.

We didn't get fleeced. Bonino + Sbisa + 1st +  3rd for Kesler + 3rd. The trade Proposals people are giving here are nowhere near as good as what we got for Kesler.

sure it does. It lets them know they have all week to decide on Krug or OEL. We can't wait that long without risking losing other players.

They are negotiating with Krug and now they will have to expedite their negotiations and possibly overpay because if they don't OEL will be off the table come Friday... This favours Vancouver. Boston might just walk away completely now.

  14. One thing that is clear here Vancouver media has proven they are absolutely clueless like Andrew Walker who said Vancouver was OEL's number 1 choice and that has since been swatted down along with a lot of other crap they've tweeted/discussed. I have no idea how these guys have jobs.

It seems like Boston is OELs first choice in this, otherwise he's set the date earlier to allow the Canuck to clear cap. Taking it to Friday morning gives Boston an advantage.

I don't think this favours Boston at all. He's basically forcing their hand to say if you want me come get me or take your chances with Krug who may just walk in FA.
