The Canucks were not dealing from a position of strength, Horvat was not re-signing here. Another thought is that it's tough to trade for a top-4 defenseman or a strong D prospect, which I will assume the Canucks were angling for out of necessity.
I think this deal could go either way, it's all about development now. On paper, it's not that bad. Beauvilier's cap hit doesn't exactly thrill me, but that's a fairly minor gripe.
